I started taking Ambien 10mg 3 1/2 years ago after my father died and I had trouble sleeping. It was so nice getting a good nights sleep. BUT in the past year, especially in the past 3 months I have lost 75% of my hair and didn't realize why. I went to two doctors who checked my thyroid hormone levels, and my estrogen and progesterone levels, which were all within normal limits. Talked to my pharmacist, and he said hair loss is not a listed side effect. Niether of my doctors told me that Ambien could be the culprit of my hair loss. I am a Registered Nurse and have been for 26 years, and have my own PDR and have looked Ambien up and no listing for hair loss or alopcia was listed as possible side effects or adverse reactions. I am so upset about this, and that I am just now finding out about this web site and reading from other people who have taken Ambien or Ambien CR what hair loss horrors they have experienced. Needless to say I will never take another one...sleep or no sleep. My biggest question now is will my head quit itching and will my hair grow back. Needless to say I am now looking for hair growth products and do not plan to purchase anything because of a TV commercial or a drug company or a highly ambitious profit centered herbal company. I am beyond frustrated about this and depressed and stressed. A man can be bald and it is overlooked and accepted by others, (and that is not fair to men, my own husband lost his hair in his early 30's...heridity), but if a woman walks around without hair or hair so thin you can see her scalp others think she is sick, has cancer, or has had some other trauma in her life. It is bad enough getting older and the normal changes that just being 50 years old brings without loosing all your hair because you wanted and needed to get to sleep and stay asleep. I do dread the next two weeks of Ambien withdrawal and there will definitely be "withdrawal" side effects. Anyone who has had similar hair loss problems with Ambien I would greatly appreciate hearing from you and knowing...Did your hair grow back? If so, by it self or did you have to use Rogaine or some other hair growth product and if so what did you use and how long have you had to use it?
