I have never posted comments on a message board like this, but I feel I must share my experience; it is similar to some of the other posters' experiences. In autumn of 2009, I was prescribed a two-week course of Avelox for a stubborn sinus infection (misdiagnosed--I ended up having sinus surgery in December). I have never had any side effects from any drugs my entire life (I am 51). After about nine days, I began feeling sick, unlike any illness I had ever had before. It was almost flu-like (the anorexia part), yet no vomiting or bowel problems. I kept taking the Avelox, initially not thinking the illness had anything to do with it. After a couple more days, it was so bad, I could barely lift my head from the pillow. I couldn't eat or even drink water (lost 9 pounds in a week), extremely weak, and had a constant hella-headache. Although I have never been poisoned, I imagined THAT was what it feels like, and I told my husband so. I also thought I was losing my mind, having anxiety attacks and weird dreams. When I called in sick to work (a rarity for me), I was crying hysterically on the phone to my boss (embarrassing). Since the Avelox was the only thing that was different in my routine, when I was finally able to sit up long enough to look it up online, I was disturbed by what I saw on this forum. Several people mentioned the feeling of being poisoned, the crazy thoughts, etc. At least that made me feel less crazy! Although I can't prove it, I am convinced this drug did poison me. I have contacted all my doctors to put in my files that I will never take this drug again. My thoughts and best wishes are with those people who have had severe side effects from it. I guess I was lucky.
