I Need Help!
Posted over a year ago
my 2yr old daughter has severe atopical eczema and was seen by her dermatologist today. he told me to ask the pharmacy for burrows solution and when i did they looked at me like i was crazy and told me they didn't even know what it was. where can i find it? my daughter really needs it.
Puppup21 - A HA! I did some research for you on Burow's Solution. Burrow's Solution is actually called Domeboro. It's an astringent that contains aluminum acetate which is used for rashes and other skin irritations.
It can be found in Wal-Greens, CVS Pharmacy, and I think Wal-Mart might have it. But I'd check Wal-Greens or CVS first. The price runs around $15.
Also, I have a couple of websites for you to read more information about this drug so you know exactly what the medication does and so you don't worry whether or not it will hurt your daughter.
This website is from Wal-Greens:

This other one is from Bayer's website and it explains that Domeboro is actually a modified version of Burow's solution:

By no means do I profess to be a doctor so you check with your dermatologist to be sure that this is the right medication for your daughter.
God bless you and I hope this eases your daughter's pain. :)

Colenso - Burow's solution is named after the German physician K. A. Burow, 1809-74.
Burow's solution is a 13% solution of aluminium acetate. Bayer's Dome Laboratory brought out a trademarked version of Burow's solution that Bayer named DomeBurow (Dome + Burow). It’s a fairly expensive way to buy Burow’s solution.
When you go to a pharmacy for OTC preps you need to ensure you always speak to the pharmacist. Unfortunately, although Burow's solution is very effective indeed at treating all sorts of skin conditions, including ear ache of the outer and middle ear, many pharmacies in the USA, the UK and Australia no longer stock it. You need to locate a compounding chemist and ask him or her to make up some Burow’s solution for you or order it from a compounding chemist wholesaler.
Every household should have a bottle of Burow’s solution in their medicine cabinet. It’s very good for treating ear conditions in dogs too.
