I hope you were able to get better before throwing your body into menopause!!
I was diagnosed with endo. at age 18 when I experienced my first eptopic pregnancy.
In 1985; I had missed my period. After 2 wks. I began bleeding. I went to ER. They did an ultrasound and said they THOUGHT I was having a tubral pregnancy but had to go in and make sure. As I got off the exam table, I passed a tissue clot. The nurse said I may be having a miscarriage. I then went in for laproscopy surgery to see if I was pregnant in my tube. The surgeon couldn't find anything except for alot of endo. He said I must have passed it (the baby) on out as there was nothing there. I too was put on the pill to stop my periods for a year. All went well. 1989; When I decided to get pregnant again I went to talk with another GYN (as I was not taking anything since the first birth control and still no luck in getting pregnant). I explained to her what happened in 1985 with being diagnosed with endo. the pill and everything. She scheduled me for a laproscopy. I had alot of endo. I thought the pill that I had taken in 1985 would make all that go away, but it didn't. (The doc didn't really tell me then that it wouldn't..but I know now that it grows back at least 5% a year) She did burn some while she was in there but there was a cluster behind my bowel and bladder that she couldn't get to for fear of endangering them. She stopped there. I took Synerel (I think thats how it is spelled) I took it for 3 months (sappose to be on it for 6 mo.in order to get rid of the rest of the endo. to get pregnant within 3 months of coming off of it) but the side effects was menopause. I had to come off of it.
1992; I went to a specialist to have an artificial insimination done. 2 weeks before I was scheduled for that I had got pregnant. A MIRACLE!! Seeing a male GYN I asked the GYN how did I get pregnant...laughing and crying at the same time. I was so happy. He said "It is very rare for anyone with severe endo to get pregnant...count yourself lucky!!" He said I had ALOT of scar tissue. I had a healthy baby boy by C-section in Jan. 1993. My Miracle boy is what I call him. (now 16 yrs.old)
A year later I got pregnant in my tube again. That was removed by cutting an incision like a 1/2 of a square and the surgeon was able to pinch it out, as a means of saving my tube. Still with both my tubes in place. Another yr. later, pregnant in my tube again. I had a chemo injection. (I was happy about this as I did not want to be cut on anymore) The chemo injection dissolved the fetus in my tube. 1998; I began spotting after my periods. GYN blamed this on my endo. and depression. Even tho my symptoms were flu-like symptoms too . I tried the hormone primrose. Still did not stop the spotting in between my periods or flu-like symptoms. 2001; I then began bleeding everyday. A female GYN scheduled me for an ultrasound and found fibroid scysts on my ovaries. She scheduled me for a hystro. I had the hystro.and they removed BOTH my ovaries. I would NOT recommend it to ANYONE...NOT even a dog!! I went straight into menopause. NOW in 2009; I am Hypothyroid. I have been thru HELL with it as there is rarely any docs that are willing or have the knowledge to treat you for thyroid problems. Search discussion boards such as I have done and you will see what I mean. I would suggest before anyone has a hystroectomy they may wanna research Hystroectomy, Hypothyroid and Hyperthyroid. I didn't realize that alot of these problems could be caused by the hypothyroid. It too can cause irregular periods, infertility, and mimics endo. almost to a T.
I very well could have been hypothyroid...triggered by the birth of my son because looking back on it all now... thats when I noticed the symptoms. Bottom line is...When I had endo...every problem I had was blamed on the endo. When I had the Hystroectomy...everything that I had was blamed on that. Now at 45 yrs. of age I am Hypothyroid. If my doc would have done a thyroid test way back when...I may have not had to even had a Hystro???? Most general practitioner's will not do a thyroid test unless you ask them to. I was put on Synthroid for my hypothyroid. Began at 50mcg. over a year ago. and now I am taking 200mcg. And they tell you to take it in the am. I have done this for over a yr. I FEEL like crap after I take it in the morning and wait to eat. But...you can not stop taking it. You have to take it for the rest of your life. I just started taking mine (3 nites ago) around 8:30 pm. (without my docs permission). Over the past 3 days...I FEEL NORMAL!! I am not a Dr. But this is what has been working for me the past three days and whether he likes it or not...this is what I will do as long as it makes ME feel better, because I feel better then I have felt in a very long time. Good luck to you...God Bless~
