My father 89, has macular degeneration and the dr says he has a type that has no cure. He is blind in one eye and the other is not very good. Does anyone know if his dr is right? I just hope there's something we can do. He loves to read and play on the computer too so it breaks my heart that there is nothing they can do for him. Any ideas?
by johannas56 - Sunday March 29 at 08:21 AMI was diagnosed with macular degeneration 2 years ago and started on a specially formulated vitamin that my doctor recommended, Maxivision, which was developed by an opthomologist. There has been no progression of the disease since I started taking Maxivision. Maxivision is sold by Medop. Their website is:
http://www.medop.com
. Their phone number is: 888-290-6294
My mother was able to use some visual aids, strong lighted magnifiers when she was first diagnosed about 6 years ago. Although the disease has not progressed any more, she is not able to use the aids now, because she is 95, and just isn't able to respond to any kind of change. I understand how heart wrenching it is, my mother also loved to read. There are alot of visual aids, perhaps you can find something that will work for him.

by johannas56 - Wednesday May 06 at 07:21 AMcan't believe the dr didn't recommend Bausch and Lomb Ocuvite. it's basical a,c,e, lutein vitamins and trials at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Institute have resulted in a true slowing of the progression of dry macular degneration. We macular degeneration can be halted with laser injections.
