aminolevulinic acid

A drug used to treat a precancerous skin condition called actinic keratosis. It is also being studied in the treatment of skin cancer and other types of cancer. When absorbed by abnormal cells and exposed to light, aminolevulinic acid becomes active and kills the cells. It is a type of photosensitizing agent.
