As I write this it is 4:30 in the morning and my flushing is just beginning to subside. I have been on Niaspan for about 6 months now and this is the worst episode I have had yet. Woke me up-usually hard to do- and I felt like i was on fire all over and red just like a sunburn. This has lasted about an hour and I am now feeling better. I'm taking it for low HDL, historically low all my life (72 years) and it seems that 500 mg wasn't enough so now i'm taking 1000 mg each night. After reading all the messages on this site I am going to do some experimenting. Today I had fried chicken and later yogurt and then a baby aspirin and a glass of milk w/ the Niaspan. A bit earlier I drank a glass of chocolate drink and drank some hot coffee. This appears to be a recipe for inducing flushing. I am going to see if, in fact, fatty foods, chocolate and yogurt contribute to flushing. I already know that I made a mistake with the decaf coffee. The flushing, accompanied by somewhat rapid heartbeat seems to be almost a normal state of affairs w/ this vitamin in high doses but there is no need to panic according to the vast majority of responses here. I'm definitely going to try the applesause snack instead of dairy. My first blood test about six weeks into the 500mg dose showed very little improvement in HDL so I'm going to retest very soon to see how 1000 mg is doing. I'll let you know.

Oh thanks people for telling your stories,, my 4 years daughter and 6 years son were taking Singulair for a month now so I decided before buying another pack to read about its side effects since I noticed no improvement, night coughs continued at night, also and most important I noticed changing in personality especially with my boy, he used to be the sweetest boy and never beat his sister but now he started to push her whenever there is a chance and becoming rude, crying all time, also his mood changed, he keeps telling me that life is boring, nothing interests him even new toys. I wonder why doctors never discuss such thing before prescribing it. I think it is better to keep trying natural herbal things and avoid any thing can irritate it.

i had taken zocor about a month thru october, started breaking out in blisters on my legs, and i mean blisters, still got scabs, they were horrible. i went to an allergist, she even took pictures, i don't think they had seen anything like it. they named it vasculitis, reaction from medication. that was the only new meds i was taken, my diabetes got out of control from taking so much steroids and antibiotics, i'll probably be scared for life from knees down to my toes. i quit taking zocor and will not take anymore. it was pure hell, the pain and itching. csloneky
