I am a 24 yo who started 60 mg of prednisone daily about 7 weeks ago for lupus. I had the mood swings with this crazy twitchy feeling for the first two weeks or so, along with the night sweats and having to get up to go to the bathroom around 5 times a night. Then came the really fast heart rate that will not slow down. So not only do I have to take the prednisone, I now have to take a medication to slow my heart rate. I finally got the big face around 2 weeks ago and it feels like it is going to explode! I still have the insomnia but strangely enough I have lost a few pounds even with all the swelling in my ankles, face, neck, and back. I don't have the pain in my joints but I think that is because my knees were already swollen and the prednisone took it down. But reading about everything else has gone though does help :)

I began taking Doxycycline Hyclate for dry eye treatment. I took the first bottle with a little discomfort. I became slightly nauseated when I would take the pill in the morning before work. However, the discomfort would eventually subside and I would be fine. I came up with the bright idea of taking the pill before bedtime to avoid the nausea but was not aware of the caution about taking and lying down. I have now been experiencing the worst pain I have ever had. I feel bloated, my stomach is constantly churning and I can't eat solid foods without experiencing extreme pain. I feel pain as swallow and the extreme pain occurs when the food passes into the stomach. Once the food is in the stomach the extreme pain subsides but there is still discomfort. I suspect that I have esophageal burn and probably some stomach burn from the drug. I have stopped using the drug about a week ago but was curious about when the side effects would subside. I am on day five and it seems that the pain is decreasing but the discomfort continues. I would be interested in hearing of any others experiences. Thanks

I started taking Loestrin24fe in early November of 2009. I noticed an immediate change in my mood. In November, I was snappy and irritable. My moods were volatile. In one instant, I would bite someone's head off. The next, I would be sobbing about nonsense. I cried at the drop of a hat. I do not cry easily, at all. I have actually been given the nickname "Ice Queen" at times. I felt completely out of control. My taste in food changed completely, and felt like I couldn't eat enough to satiate my voracious appetite. I gained about 15 pounds over the three and a half months I was on Loestrin. By December, I felt generally more anxious, and my moods continued to be volatile. By January, I thought I was getting over it. I was less snappy, but I was still weepy. I didn't want to go anywhere, do anything, or see anyone. I withdrew completely from the people and things I usually enjoyed. I felt worthless for being so disinterested in my life. I had really low self esteem, but I was relieved that I no longer snapped and lost it as easily. In early February, I had the first of what would be many panic attacks. I was anxious for no reason, but I couldn't get it under control. I have had panic attacks in the past, but this one was different. The feelings of anxiety persisted. Although the panic attack itself passed, the feeling of generally anxiety went on to produce more and more panic attacks. I am 23, and had only had a handful in my life up until I was on this pill. I became unable to eat or sleep, and I finally went on a Saturday to Care Now. I had lost 10 pounds in two weeks (I went on to lose another five pounds the following week), and I was unable to go on as I had been. I was prescribed a fast-acting Xanax and an anti-anxiety medication, Buspar. The Xanax would work for a couple of hours, only to taper off before I could have more. I was finally able to get in to see my general practitioner, who referred me to a psychiatrist. My psychiatrist diagnosed me with major depressive disorder. He administered a test to assess my depression, and I scored OVER the minimum to be categorized as majorly depressed. I was given an anti-depressant, an anti-psychotic to accelerate the efficacy of the anti-depressant, as well as a long-acting form of Xanax and a sleep aid. Within ONE week, I stopped having daily panic attacks and have been doing better since. I will be on the anti-depressant for a year from when my treatment began. All three doctors I saw during this process agree that the Loestrin brough this episode on. I have NEVER been depressed, and I have certainly never thought of suicide, as I did when I was so deeply depressed. I have a wonderful, loving fiance and an equally loving family. I have never been so miserable as I was when I was on this pill. I stopped it after three and a half months, and I will never take it or any hormonal birth control again. Some people just can't take the extra hormones. I am one of those people. I would encourage anyone experiencing these, or any side effects, to see their doctor and figure out an alternative form of birth control. This was poison when put in my body, and I certainly hope this helps those who feel the same.

Took my first 100mg pill 2 days ago as prescribed after a meal and no side effects on that day. Yesterday again took the pill after my breakfast and no side effects until after lunch. Since then I have experienced nausea, shaking, headache, ridiculously sore stomach, dizzyness, vomiting, diorhear and loss of apetite. Want to know if there is an alternative drug as i really want my periroal dermatitis to go away.
