My mother was prescribed lisinopril 5 mg for high blood pressure. Within a week the doctor changed the dosage to 20 mg. After taking it for a month she started having bad pain in her abdomen and back. I took her back to the doctor they took a urine sample told her she had a bad kidney infection, gave her an antibiotic and sent her home. The next day she got worse and I took her to the Er and the doctor there said she was in kidney failure because of the lisinopril. She was in the hospital for 5 days so they could get her blood pressure back up it got as low as 61/38. I take lisinopril and havent had any side affects but after my mothers experience I'm going to talk to my doctor about changing my meds.

I posted several days ago about my plan to have my Mirena removed due to major weight gain, extreme mood swings, acne, constant lower back pain, lethargy, etc. I have a nurse practioner for a GYN and she was very supportive of my decision to have it removed as I felt that was the right decision for me (especially when I told her of my major mood swings and weight gain). She noted it on my chart and agreed that it wasn't for me. I had the IUD removed on Thursday morning (3/18/10) and also had some blood drawn to check my TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) to just be sure that it isn't an underlying cause for my weight gain. No results back as of yet. I had wanted my hormone levels checked as well to see just how "off" with high/low levels of estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and some other one that starts with an "a" (causes weight gain around abdomen). She suggested we wait for 3 months to let my body readjust to having no artificial hormones. Five hours after the removal, I suffered from a really bad case of vertigo/naseau/cold sweats. At work. To the dismay of my co-workers (who luckily include MD's, though pediatricians, as I work in a research lab, but still..it's nice to have a doc around for those just in case moments like these). So there I am, gray, sweaty, and about to pass out. I decide to lie down on the deliciously cold office floor of my lab like I drank too much and am about to seriously embarrass myself by puking everywhere....discussing my situation with a pediatrician and a PhD who studies breast tumor metastases (this hormone thing is so not his area but my odd behavior has him spellbound). Not my finest hour. It wasn't low blood sugar as I'm not diabetic, and besides that I'd eaten a good lunch. It had been five hours since having one tube of blood drawn so it wasn't anemia or from blood loss. The doc gave me a coke just in case though. It only made me more queasy. Verdict from the pediatrician....five hours is too soon to have any kind of side effect of removal of progesterone to have affected my body so drastically. I most likely had a virus, an inner ear issue, and/or increased pressure on my brain. Did I want a lumbar puncture? (This was his version of a joke...I did not laugh). As I lay there cursing him silently, I realized that I'd actually had two other episodes of vertigo/nausea since having the Mirena IUD implanted. Was this third incident a last hurrah side effect? Needless to say, I managed to get myself home (but not before hurling in my parking deck next to my favorite parking spot...dammit), Thank goodness for cruise control b/c I was light-headed driving home. Got home and had another spell of vertigo and nausea (nothing left to throw up so just your basic dry heaving until tears ran down my face). After 5 hours in bed, it finally went away. The next day, I went back to work and had another case of light-headedness, but read up on vertigo and took some dramamine which seemed to nip that in the bud. Antihistamines work well also. I've been bleeding very heavily since the removal. Now, I had not had a period in over a year and was told that I had next to no lining in my uterus when I had the IUD inserted in Nov 2009 b/c of the stronger Depo Provera shot I'd had for 9 months prior. So, it is a bit disconcerting that I'm bleeding very bright red blood, with huge tissue/mucus clots, and am experiencing cramping. However, I will say that I believe my body is merely trying to right itself, and this must be uterine lining just dying to be sloughed off. I expect that I will bleed for quite some time. I will give it two weeks before I hit the panic button of contacting my GYN again. I still think I made the right decision. I know it may all be in my head (psychosomatic and all that), but my mind feels clearer, and I'm already thinking of craft projects to start (it has been a really long time since I could fathom any enthusiasm for anything other than zoning out in front of the tv), planning my workouts at the gym (if only this heavy bleeding would ease up already) and my face/neck is already clearing somewhat from breakouts. I'm also much less anxious and just now realized that my lower back hasn't hurt at all in the last two days...EVEN with cramping! Best decision I ever made. Don't let any physician EVER tell you that they will not remove your IUD. It is your body, and regardless of your reasons, you have every right to have it removed. I'm very happy that I did not run into any roadblocks with my GYN, b/c frankly I felt like I'd just take the forceps and remove it myself (mood swing, yep), but it didn't come to that. Lucky for her, eh?

I had been on Lisinopril 5 mg for about two years and developed a nasal drip that I mentioned to my doctor. He said that it was probably allergies that I have developed so I continued taking the drug. In January 2010 I began coughing and thought I had a bad cold. I went to my primary care doctor and she mentioned that it was a sinus infection. She put me on Levaquin for two weeks. It helped a little because I did actually had a cold but the cough never went away. I went back to her in March 2010 and she suggested I go to an ENT that specialized in sinuses. I did and in less than 5 minutes he told me that the Lisinopril was the likely cause of my dry cough with no other symptoms. I have been off of Lisinopril for 1 day now but the coughing situation has not improved. I read that it can take some patients up to several months to get rid of the cough completely. I am in sales and can assure you that as tough as it is to sell anything these days it’s even more difficult to sell anything while you are hacking up a lung and gagging while trying to sell anything. I feel that doctors should explain a lot more that a high percentage of people (1 in 5) develop a horrible cough while taking this drug. I want to thank everyone for sharing their story.

Hi...I'm 18 years old and I got Mirena this month on March the 10....I know its not long that i have had Mirena like you all but they placed it in on the day my period was suppose to go off....so i was still on when they did it. After leaving the doctor and getting into my car...i immediately begin to fill my hands tremble and feel light headed....i read through the pamphlet they give you about all the side affects over and over. I read nothing about my side effects so i tried to forget it....then later that night my i start to feel pain in my abdomen...does that suppose to happen? Then i start bleeding more....the blood reminded me of that blood odor blood i had after i gave birth to my son....does my blood suppose to have an odor? it never has before. I'm still bleeding till this day with the same aching severe pain and smelly blood Oder. I did have chlamydia...they tested me February and gave me pills for a cure then i went back that same day i got the mirena to do a retest to see if the chlamydia is gone or whatever....what my doctor told me was that...."it isn't a good idea to get the Mirena since we have not got your results back yet but we're going to do it anyway. But you can't get chlamydia or gonorrhea or it'll go right up the strings and do great damage and you could get PID and might don't be able to have anymore kids." how scary is that. I'll just wait till my next appointment to see my result and then my appointment to check my mirena...then I'll decide what to do. And is it okay for me to douche while i have the Mireena????
