Hi, my mother's been on toprol and then changed over to metoprolol xl 50 mg after she had a stroke. She also has rheumatic heart disease. Her primary doctor had mentioned that this drug will help keep her blood pressure low and is an extra protection for my mother against another stroke. My mother never had a history or a case of high blood pressure . This medicine sounds like it should be prescribed only to those who has a bad case of high blood pressure or palpitations. From reading everyone's post on here, it sounds like my mother has some of those side effects as well. My dad is telling me she has weird dreams all the time where she wakes up and scream. She has anxiety and always tells me she is scared of me when I stare at her. Shes in bed all day, seems like she has a major case of fatigue. Sounds like it could very well be the side effect of this drug. I will be consulting her primary to lower her dose to 25mg and monitor changes and if they seem positive, maybe we should discontinue this drug all in all.

I had Mirena inserted back in October of 2009 and at first I thought it was the best birth control ever. I still had spotting occassionally, some lasting up to 10-12 days. Thank god it was very light because I cant stand walking around wearing tampons and pads. Anyway, maybe about 2 months ago my periods stopped but, I started getting these really bad headaches that lead to dizziness and nausea. It was something I would not wish on an enemy. Dealing with the pain was not easy but, after a while I got very tired of the constant headaches, dizziness, nausea, stomach cramps, and even depression. It was the worst!!!! I recommend if anyone is experiencing what I am feeling, to go get checked by their physician cause something could be wrong.

I'm so glad I found this site. I almost experience every side effect all of you have written. I am not sexually active but I take the Nuvaring because it does lighten my period. I've been on the ring for about 5 months now and I can tell a huge difference in my body and behavior. I'm very exhausted all the time. I have absolutely no sex drive what so ever. Certain days I have a lot of discharge but it's not thick. Recently It's even been burning, no itching just the burn. I know it's not a yeast infection nor an std because like a said before, I haven't been sexually active in over a year. I haven't really had a problem with the ring slipping out. My problem is that I can never get it out. I wonder if It's just my body adjusting to the ring, or should I just get off of it?

I have had my Mirena for 3-4 years. I haven't had even a light pink swipe since a week after it was placed. It was placed primarily due to huge painful fibroids (which have shrank considerably!!) and painful, heavy periods and huge clotting/passing. I was standing at work one day with black pants on (thank goodness!) and the pants were wide-legged and my periods were so heavy I could feel a rush of blood and then it literally ran down my legs where my pants didn't meet up with my legs onto the sides and tops of my feet - I had such huge clots they would block the pad from absorbing the rush of blood. It was miserable for at least 8 days a month or 8 days every 5 weeks - always irregular time-wise too. My doctor recommended Mirena and said it would also be a means of birth control for me, which was a plus for my husband and me since we have always used withdrawal except for twice (and I have two children as a result of that!). I can honestly say that I haven't had a bad experience with my Mirena. It definitely has corrected my miserable periods that I suffered from since early teens and of course it has been a viable birth control. During all this time of having the Mirena I haven't had ONE SINGLE moment when I thought I was having a period until today. I thought earlier today that I felt a twinge of familiar menstrual pain in my lower/pelvic abdomen region - it was gone as quick as it happened and I was like, oh - okay - a twinge in four years isn't bad. Well, tonight after using the bathroom (#1), I wiped and a considerable amount of fresh, red blood with a tiny bit of tissue was present - wiped again and just about nothing. I am simply reporting this information so that some of you can see that someone feels like they have benefitted from Mirena. I am confused as to why I am bleeding and feeling twinges of pain, but am still very thankful that if this is a period, it is NOTHING like the debilitating periods of my past. I could never miss work - I am not one of those women who has ever been allowed the luxury of claiming 'girl problems' each month. The men in my life would not tolerate it and I just do not have time for it. So I guess that I am reporting a pretty successful experience so far with Mirena. I will monitor this 'period' situation I am currently having and do not expect it to become something serious. If it continues and I end up seeing the doctor, I will report back with findings. When the Mirena was placed 3-4 years ago, it was a last-ditch effort for me to keep my uterus and it has so far prevented me from having to have a hysterectomy at a young age. I have never posted to the internet before - how liberating it is to be able to share something that may help someone out!
