Doxycycline Hyclate Mental Confusion, Memory Problems, Dreamworld, Suicidal Thoughts, Despair

I have been through hell with this drug, well i'm sure it was this drug, I have had minor anxiety in the past, but the anxiety i had the day after taking this was off the scale, I couldn't sleep, eat, or function in my life at all. I started to become very depressed and go into despair. I even had suicidal thoughts which freaked me out and is not like me at all. I was even taken to A and E at hospital it was that bad. I finished on Sunday and seen a bit of improvement, I was not as anxious and irritable. Today it has came back a little, I seem to have some mental confusion and memory problems also. It has been a long dark road, and I entered some scary dark places that felt horrible. Im usually so upbeat and busy. It was so not like me. I took this medication for 11 days at 100mg twice a day. How long will this take to pass? please help I feel im going crazy

777 - Unfortunately, most drugs can cause MANY side effects. . . . much better to take natural products/alternatives. Everyone is different, but, it will take time to rid of the drug from your system.

Bigpmcd - things have just been awful, although the deep depression has lifted, i keep drifting in and out of it but not as extreme, I generally just feel like im going crazy most of the time and feel very detached from my own body. The anxiety was debilitating, as was the depression, I couldn't even get out my bed. I am just very worried incase it has left long term effects? Will it all just get out my system and have me back to my happy sane self? It is such a dark place to be. I have been trying to drink lots of water and fruits to detox. I know it may take time though. Any comments are appreciated

Bigpmcd - can someone please help, although I am slightly better this week has been hell, I have felt suicidal at times, i just do not feel like myself any more its so scary I cant seem to function yet, I have been of for 5 days. The anxiety is still very bad.

Bigpmcd - I have now been off for 7 days although I have times where I feel okay now, I keep having moments of deep depression and horrible thoughts. I just feel dull grey and like everything is boring in life. I keep getting severe deporsonilisation also please can someone help me im struggling to to live i feel like iv had enough

Baba_dark - Hang in there brooo.. i have been off of this drug for 3 months now and i am getting these panic attacks and anxiety too. i dont know how long will this last. but just have patience. hope you dont mind me asking but what did you take doxy for? and for how long? me i took it for 3 days and on the 3rd day i experienced the worst scenario of my life and then the BRAIN FOG hit me and stayed for a month. Awaiting your reply.

Garychuck - I know exactly how you guys feel. I was on this stuff for 3wks, and in the 3rd wk, I was feeling pretty suicidal. For me, it took about a wk for the depression to go away and 6wks before the anxiety wore off. Just hang in there, the depression and anxiety will pass eventually. Stay strong.

Stay_positive - Hey everybody - I truly hope you are all doing well and recovering! I am still experiencing a lot of issues from my use of Doxy. I get waves of serious depression, and like Bigpmcd said... I've gone to dark, dark places because of this shit. I've never had ANY issues with depression, anxiety, etc. in the past and out of nowhere this stuff made me feel like I was losing it, and that there was no hope in the world. However, that being said, I have also experienced days where I'm optimistic and feel like my old self :) I know we'll all pull through this - one day at a time! Please post back if you have any updates - I'd love to hear how you're all doing!!

Bereft - With response to the thread on doxycycline and depression, I feel compelled to issue a serious warning to anyone who does not respond well to this drug. I will write in greater detail soon but for now just tell you that our beautiful 19 year old son committed suicide on the 6th day of a 100mg per day dose (which he was taking for a bit of perioral dermatitis). He was a happy and much adored young man from a very loving, solid family. He was very intelligent, athletic and laid back. He was not an A type personality, and had never suffered depression. On the morning of the 6th day this boy (with the strong friendships and 3 very close older brothers) ate a large breakfast, was searching for his cricket whites for the afternoon's game and then took an irreversible course of action quite contrary to who he was. The medication must have impacted detrimentally with fatal consequences. The coroner is investigating the matter. Please trust your own instincts. This drug obviously has very bad side effects for some people.

Wildthunder - I too was prescribed this drug, and I do have a history of severe mental illness that the doctor was a aware of and she prescribed it anyway. With in two days I was enraged, angry, confused and agitated.. I started doing some reading and found links between the drug and my symptoms so I stopped taking it and within few days the rage went way .

Lisalis - Yes, I know exactly what you mean. I am on 20mg, a low dose of doxycycline for blepharitis. It has been a nightmare. I was taking it 5:30 or even later. I am litteraly anxious and up all night!! This stuff is bad. I'm calling my doctor tomorrow. I don't think there is any other drug out there that is good for blepharits though.

Lisalis - The interesting thing is I am taking this for blepharitis or ocular rosasea and I haven't had a bad bout of this since before I was on prozac which was 10 years ago. I was on prozac for about 10 years and the blepharitis stopped or hardly ever bothered me. I stopped the prozac this past August and was doing great not being on prozac. But now I'm wondering if maybe I need to go back on the prozac to get the blepharitis in control. I hate to go back on it because I was originally taking prozac for anxiety not for blepharitis and since I've been off the prozac I've been perfectly fine, no anxiety. Now blepharitis is back, I'd rather take prozac than be up all night with this doxycycline and all of the side effects that go with it. Prozac didn't really give me any side effects. I know it sounds strange about the prozac but I think it has a good side effect by getting rid of the blepharitis unless its coincidence?
