Doxycycline Hyclate Burning Sensation, Rash, Toes, Pool, Pool Two
Posted over a year ago
My 5th day on doxycyline (2x/day 100mg) for infection. While in the pool today, my toes started burning. It's evening, now, and am soaking my feet in ice water. The burning sensation is horrible. So far, its only my toes that is experiencing the severe burning sensation. No rash, but my toes are red....and sensitive to touch.
Tcforre - Having EXACT same problem. Also began after a day at pool two days ago. I thought it was sunburn at first, as many people warned me to be really careful in the sun. But I was under an umbrella and covered in 100 sunblock. Couldn't sleep the first night -- was a bit better last night -- and awake again tonight. Scouring internet for something that will give some relief so please let me know if you find anything that helps. I feel like my toes are covered in blisters.
Tcforre - A week later, my toes ARE covered in huge fluid filled blisters. My toes are bright red. My GP doesn't seem to have any idea what it is. I'm starting to get the red, itchy patches with tiny blisters starting on my knuckles as well. Does anyone know of a treatment???
Cruise1521 - I'm on my 6th day of taking doxycycline, 2 days ago I noticed my toes burned like I had a 3rd degree burn when I stepped into the bathtub of mild temperature water..I couldn't even stay in the tub it felt like my toes were on fire!! Felt the same sensation when I went to get into our pool too, hurts so bad I am unable to swim. Also, woke up this morning and felt like my fingernails had been hit with a hammer. Also, today a rash started on the inside of my wrist. Very strange!
Tcforre - It's a photosensitive allergic reaction to the sun from the medication. The dermatologist I finally saw said there's a certain brand with lower incidence of this reaction. But he gave me a heavy dose of amoxicillin instead. Was annoyed my GP didn't recognize it -- dermatologist took photos as it was a "classic" case of photosensitivity. He drained the blisters and gave me a cream that helped a lot. Switch from the doxy or NO sun! And it will stay in your system for a while so still be careful for awhile. Good luck!
