Extreme Chest Pain From Doxycycline Hyclate

Over a week ago though, I took my pill (on a Monday) and right away it hurt. It felt like it was stuck and I kept eating and drinking to try to get it down but nothing seemed to work. I decided to ignore it because hey it's got to dissolve there eventually. It is now the next Monday and my chest is in so much pain. It hurts almost all the time but it's worse when I'm swallowing (anything- be it liquids or solid foods). Should I seek medical attention or if I wait it out will I be okay?

Sally585 - On a scale of 1-10 ten being the worst pain you have ever felt in your life what would you rate it...if its 6 or more I would go to the Dr. It may not have anything to do with the doxy but then again it may either way it's not something you want to ignore!

Rnewbie2011 - Not sure if the original "poster" of this thread will see this, but I'm hoping. I was on day 8 of my doxycycline hyclate and woke up around 5am with having chest pains as well. After getting out of bed, it would hurt some when swallowing / eating / drinking. Only would NOT hurt when I would breathe. Went to doctor the next day (Sunday) and he put me on an anti-reflux. I'm on day 4 of it, but the pain has gotten worse and more frequent. Eating and drinking if next to impossible unless I want to feel like a knife if being jabbed between my sternum. I've read one other post on a forum where a fella complained of the same thing. He had pain for 2 weeks when he would eat. I then googled the drug and read where they say you should drink 8 oz of water when taking, and best not to take right before bed as this can cause Esophadeal irritation or ulceration. My guess (hoping) this is the issue and HOPING it can be corrected soon. The Dexilant anti reflux hasn't helped yet, but I'm due for the 4 dose in a couple hours. This is absolutely miserable. Any replies to this is greatly appreciated. Posted 4/6/11.
