Acetaminophen-Pentazocine Chemical Information

acetaminophen - An acetanilide with analgesic and antipyretic activity. Although the exact mechanism through which acetaminophen exert its effects has yet to be fully determined, this agent probably acts by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system (CNS). Inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis in the CNS results in elevation of the pain threshold and lowering of the thermal set point in the hypothalamus.

pentazocine hydrochloride - The hydrochloride salt form of pentazocine, a benzomorphan narcotic agonist-antagonist. Pentazocine hydrochloride binds to and activates kappa- and sigma-opioid receptors, resulting in sedation and analgesia. In addition, this agent antagonizes the mu-receptor. Pentazocine hydrochloride partially reverses opiate-induced cardiovascular, respiratory, and behavioral depression.
