Rabeprazole decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. Rabeprazole is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Rabeprazole is also used to promote healing of erosive esophagitis (damage to your esophagus caused by stomach acid). Rabeprazole may also be given with an antibiotic to prevent gastric ulcer caused by infection with helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). Rabeprazole may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Rabeprazole is usually given for 4 to 8 weeks only. Your doctor may recommend a second course of treatment if you need additional healing time. When treating H. pylori infection, rabeprazole may be needed for only 7 days. Follow your doctor's instructions. Take this medicine with a full glass (8 ounces) of water. Rabeprazole may be taken with or without food. Do not crush, break, or chew a rabeprazole tablet. Swallow the pill whole. It is specially made to release medicine slowly in the body. Breaking or crushing the pill would cause too much of the drug to be released at one time. Take this medication for the entire length of time prescribed by your doctor.

I started taking aciphex on October 29, as a beginning treatment for H-pylori infection. I took it for a week. I was dressing up I noticed red patches on both my legs and arms. It looked like my blood vesels under my skin had broken, the patches were flat but I didn't have any itching. I stopped the medication immediately. I called my doctor and he told me to stop taking the medication. Two or Three days after stopping the medication I got urinary track infection. A week passed and the patches didn't go away neither the UTI, so I went to the doctor and he said the that my problems weren't caused by aciphex. He sent me to the skin doctor, he said that it was possible that the patches were caused by aciphex but not the UTI. He sent me for blood test. I am waiting for the results. In the meantime my GI doctor sent me a triple therapy for the H-pylory which includes prilosec. I started reserching this medication and it can cause the same problem I had with aciphex under the skin called PURPURA, and there is a similar problem called PETECHIAE. Now after taking aciphex I fear if there is another part in my body that is bleeding that can't be seen. I need to take the therapy to get rid of the bacteria but I'm very concerned of the side effects, because I feel that nowdays this doctor are not well informed about the side effects of these medications.

I don't know if my problem is from Aciphex or GERD or possible ulcer I'm going to be tested for in 2 weeks. I have awful tingling/burning in my tongue and gums. It's horrible. Began at the same time I started Aciphex a few weeks ago. Had taken Aciphex before with good results. I don't know what this burning is about, but have to stop Aciphex for 2 weeks before being tested for ulcer. I'll advise if symptoms stop with stopping the Aciphex. I also have metallic taste in mouth.

I had been on Aciphex for about 4 years because Nexium, Prilosec, and all the other meds did not help my heartburn. I started having problems wtth my bowels, I thought I had IBS but with the diarrhea effects. It was so bad some days that I could not drive to work. I would have strong urges to go to the bathroom which literally gave me less than a minute to find a toilet. I never thought it would be the Aciphex. I recently switched to Zegerid and have not experienced quite the problems I had in the past. Last night I took my 1 remaining Aciphex and this morning the problems returned. I am sure now that the Aciphex has something to do with it. I am wondering if there is any long term damage/effects from it.
