Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine is a central nervous system stimulant. It affects chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control. Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine is used to treat narcolepsy and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide. Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results from this medication. Take this medication with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew, break, or open an extended-release capsule. Swallow the pill whole. It is specially made to release medicine slowly in the body. Breaking or opening the pill would cause too much of the drug to be released at one time. To be sure this medication is helping your condition, your doctor will need to see you on a regular basis. Do not miss any scheduled visits to your doctor. This medication can cause you to have unusual results with certain medical tests. Tell any doctor who treats you that you are using amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. Store amphetamine and dextroamphetamine at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light.

this isnt really a side effect but is 30 mg of adderall xr and than 20 mg of normal adderall to much i do so much better in school

My 16 y/o daughter gained weight on Adderall. I searched all the information and it clearly states that weight loss is a side effect. All I can say is that she gained 10 lbs, and became aggressive and irrational. She was very argumentative, a 360 difference in her personality. We took her off it and she slept for the first three days when she came home from school. She continued sleeping whenever she had a free moment for the next week. She is slowly becoming herself again. She was on a low dosage for ADHD/without hyperactivity. Now we will never put her on anything again. From what I have read, at some point these children need to figure out the world without drugs and learn ways to cope without medical intervention. The sooner they figure it out the better. My advice to parents would be not to use this drug.

Adderall X-R saved my life! I've been taking 20mg a day for 2 mos. and I noticed that it was even more effective if i drank coffee. I only just found out that you can't mix caffeine and adderall so I talked to my dr. about it and we increased my dosage to 30mg a day. I didn't have any noticeable side effects on 20mg but i've got some pretty big ones on 30mg, namely, neck pain, headaches, restless sleep, and dry mouth. has anyone experienced these and did you eventually adjust? Thanks for any response!

Adderall XR Chemical Information

dextroamphetamine sulfate - The salt of the dextro-isomer of amphetamine and sympathomimetic amine with CNS stimulating properties. Dextroamphetamine sulphate acts by facilitating the release of catecholamines, particularly noradrenaline and dopamine, from nerve terminals in the brain and inhibits their uptake. This leads to an increase in motor activity, causes euphoria, mental alertness and excitement and suppresses appetite. This drug causes dependence and may cause an increase in heart rate and blood pressure. It is used in the treatment of narcolepsy and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

amphetamine aspartate - The aspartate salt of amphetamine, a sympathomimetic amine with CNS stimulating properties. Amphetamine acts by facilitating the release of catecholamines, particularly noradrenaline and dopamine, from nerve terminals in the brain and inhibits their uptake. Physiological effects include an increase in motor activity, euphoria, increased mental alertness, excitatory behavior and appetite suppression.

dextroamphetamine saccharate - The saccharate salt form of the dextro-isomer of amphetamine, a synthetic substance related to natural sympathomimetic amines, with CNS stimulating properties. Dextroamphetamine saccharate acts by facilitating the release of catecholamines, particularly noradrenaline and dopamine, from its storage sites in nerve terminals in the brain, and inhibits their uptake within the mesocorticolimbic system, a major component of the brain reward system, thereby resulting in measurable behavioral changes such as euphoria. As a CNS stimulant, this agent may increase blood pressure and reduce appetite. Similar to other amphetamines, dextroamphetamine has a high potential for abuse, dependence, and addiction if used in large doses over extended periods of time.
