Cipro Chemical Information

ciprofloxacin hydrochloride - The hydrochloride salt form of ciprofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone related to nalidixic acid with antibacterial activity. Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride exerts its bactericidal effect by interfering with the bacterial DNA gyrase, thereby inhibiting the DNA synthesis and preventing bacterial cell growth.

ciprofloxacin - A synthetic broad spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic. Ciprofloxacin binds to and inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase, an enzyme essential for DNA replication. This agent is more active against Gram-negative bacteria than Gram-positive bacteria. (NCI04)
