clindamycin phosphate - The phosphate salt form of clindamycin, a lincomycin antibiotic with antibacterial activity. Clindamycin phosphate is hydrolyzed in vivo to its active form clindamycin. Clindamycin exerts its bacteriostatic effect by binding to the 50S subunits of bacterial ribosomes, thereby interfering with peptidyl transferase activity in the elongation process of protein synthesis. As a result, this agent prevents bacterial cell growth.
