prochlorperazine edisylate - The edisylate salt form of prochlorperazine, a derivative of phenothiazine with antipsychotic and antiemetic properties. Prochlorperazine edisylate blocks postsynaptic dopamine receptors in cortical and limbic areas of the brain, thereby preventing the excess of dopamine in the brain. This leads to a reduction in psychotic symptoms, including hallucinations and delusions. Prochlorperazine edisylate appears to exert its antiemetic activity by blocking the dopamine and histamine receptors in the chemical trigger zone (CTZ) in the brain, thereby relieving nausea and vomiting.
prochlorperazine - A synthetic propylpiperazine derivative of phenothiazine with antiemetic, antipsychotic, antihistaminic, and anticholinergic activities. Prochlorperazine antagonizes the dopamine D2-receptor in the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) of the brain and may prevent chemotherapy-induced emesis. (NCI04)
prochlorperazine maleate - The maleate salt form of prochlorperazine, a synthetic, piperazine phenothiazine derivative with antiemetic, antipsychotic, antihistaminic, and anticholinergic activities. Prochlorperazine binds to and blocks the postsynaptic dopamine D2-receptor in the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) of the brain and may prevent chemotherapy-induced emesis. Prochlorperazine maleate also blocks anticholinergic and alpha-adrenergic receptors. Its antagonistic actions on the alpha1 receptors results in sedation, muscle relaxation, and hypotension.
