I was given this script after surgery to take for 5 days 2x a day. I called my sister, who is a pharmacy tech, and asked about it. She warned me that it was "NASTY" but said it would work well. I follwed her instruction to eat a meal while taking the meds. I found no ill effect as far as vomiting but diarreha was prevolent, but not severe. The sun sensitivity was unreal though. I walked 20 yards to my mailbox and back not thinking about it and by the time I got inside my face and forearms were on fire. I have taken to staying indoors while I am on the meds and I am curious how long that particular symptom will last. I have also had bits of insomnia but other than that no trouble with the meds.

This is so comforting. Since I have been on this antibiotic for suspected MRSA I have had so many scares. It began with throwing up the drug on the second day b/c I didn't take it with food- BIG MISTAKE, then, the soft tissue that is supposedly affected by staph (mastitis in breasts since breast feeding), have been on fire! They burn terribly and the skin above them has begun to to the same. I have been on 4 other antibiotics for this and they have NEVER burnt like this. Now my entire chest feels sunburnt, and is bumpy, but no redness. I have also broken out with a small rash on my upper arm which is itchy. My knee joints also began swelling and at one point- around 3 days after taking the meds, were in horrible pain if I put pressure on them! My nose has been tickling non-stop and I've had difficulty sleeping. Not to mention I am faint, feel fluish with no fever, achy and chilly all the time!!! Went on a long walk today in the park and all of these symptoms worsed a great deal. I regret the last two weeks on this med. And, it seems they prescribe it a ton even though it supposed to only be prescribed for "proven or strongly suspected bacterial infections." Seems over used, but non-the-less, if you use it stay out the sun and please, please take with food or you'll be so sorry!!!

I've been taking Doxycycline on & off for about a year now, for rosacea and folliculitis. (inflammation of hair follicle) I never thought to read side effects.(duh) My dermatologist told me to stay out of sun and take with food. I started taking at night because it upset stomach, not realizing you are not to lay down after taking. I also started having joint pain and swelling especially in knee and elbow area. Vaginal itching and dryness, dry mouth, swelling of feet and hands, & exhaustion is an under statement!! I am pretty active and I can't even shower without forcing myself to do so. Depression a definite side effect! This drug is great for Rosacea! Thats about it! I will stop taking now! I actually thought I may have R/A or lupus because of joint pain. So beware!! I don't of course. It is the side effects of drug! I believe the drugs that cure or help are worse then the disease itself!!!
