My daughter is 3 and has had recurring UTI infections for over a year now. She currently has a UTI infection that is resisting the antibiotics. She has had this infection since December. The doctor prescribed Furadantin. This is the fourth antibiotic she has been on to try to stop this UTI infection. Anyways, the Furdantin is making her sick. She doesn't want to eat, her stomach hurts, she is extremely tired, and she is vomiting. I always make sure that she eats before I give it to her, but sure enough about 10 minutes later she is vomiting all over the place. I hope there is another medicine that can help my baby, without making her so sick. I feel awful.

My 4 year old daughter is taking furadantin for a UTI and after the first dose in the evening she did not want to eat her dinner. Later in the night she complained of stomach ache, but was able to fall asleep. By the morning she was still complaining of stomach upset and headache. She ate only two bites of her breakfast and then I gave her another dose. Twenty minutes later she began crying with terrible stomach pains.

nitrofurantoin - A synthetic derivative of imidazolidinedione, Nitrofurantoin inhibits bacterial DNA, RNA, and cell wall protein synthesis. Activated by bacterial flavoproteins to intermediates that inactivate bacterial ribosomal proteins, Nitrofurantoin is used prophylactically as a urinary anti-infective agent against most gram-positive and gram-negative organisms and for long-term suppression of infections.
