Cephalexin is in a group of drugs called cephalosporin antibiotics. Cephalexin fights bacteria in the body. Cephalexin is used to treat infections caused by bacteria, including upper respiratory infections, ear infections, skin infections, and urinary tract infections. Cephalexin may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide. Take the medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not use the medication in larger amounts, or use it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the instructions on your prescription label. Take cephalexin with a full glass of water. Dissolve the cephalexin dispersible tablet in a small amount of water, about 2 teaspoonfuls. Stir this mixture and drink all of it right away. To make sure you get the entire dose, add a little more water to the same glass, swirl gently and drink right away. Do not swallow or chew a dispersible tablet. Shake the oral suspension (liquid) well just before you measure a dose. To be sure you get the correct dose, measure the liquid with a marked measuring spoon or medicine cup, not with a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one. Take cephalexin for the entire length of time prescribed by your doctor. Your symptoms may get better before the infection is completely treated. Cephalexin will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu.

I cut the tip of my right index finger off while slicing vegetables. The doctor prescribed Keflex 500mg. I took it 4 times a day. I stopped at the 4th day because I had confusion, headaches, and a red rash on my hands and wrists with little blisters. They were painful and very tender. I had to wear white cotton gloves to make using my hands bearable. My finger was healing fine, but the rash and blisters continued even after I quit taking the Keflex. I saw my doctor who prescribed Benadryl and a powder to help with the itching and painful rash. I did this for a month. The rash cleared up as well as the blisters, but my skin started bubbling up and then falling off. This was over month ago and the hands are better but now my feet are doing the skin peeling . I am not treating them at all now. Just waiting for it to stop. Is there anything else I can do? II hope the skin peeling stops soon.

I have a cyst on my back which grew in size and is either inflamed or infected. The doctor wouldn't remove it and said it had to calm down first. So he gave me 10 days of taking 500 mg Keflex 4x a day. I am only on my second day of it, but I have had a non-relenting headache that is more severe and different from the headaches I would normally get (not that I often have them). I am already a very anxious person so it's hard to say whether my anxiety is worse from this, but I have been feeling very jittery. No GI problems yet, and I've been taking it with yogurt, but from my experience, the GI problems usually come later on after a course of antibiotics. I am debating whether to suffer the headaches or stop the meds. I can't take ibuprofen which is the only thing that helps headaches because of a very sensitive stomach.
Does anyone know *how* an antibiotic can cause headaches? I am taking the generic version made by Teva which comes in a capsule which looks like bright red plastic. That can't be healthy to ingest.

I took 500mg tablets after a breast implant surgery. After eliminating all other drugs I was taking, I still had headaches and fatigues. I was only staying awake for about 4 hours a day. The headaches grew to migraines. I called the doctor he told me to stop the Keflex. 26 hours later I was 100% better
