Cephalexin is in a group of drugs called cephalosporin antibiotics. Cephalexin fights bacteria in the body. Cephalexin is used to treat infections caused by bacteria, including upper respiratory infections, ear infections, skin infections, and urinary tract infections. Cephalexin may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide. Take the medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not use the medication in larger amounts, or use it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the instructions on your prescription label. Take cephalexin with a full glass of water. Dissolve the cephalexin dispersible tablet in a small amount of water, about 2 teaspoonfuls. Stir this mixture and drink all of it right away. To make sure you get the entire dose, add a little more water to the same glass, swirl gently and drink right away. Do not swallow or chew a dispersible tablet. Shake the oral suspension (liquid) well just before you measure a dose. To be sure you get the correct dose, measure the liquid with a marked measuring spoon or medicine cup, not with a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one. Take cephalexin for the entire length of time prescribed by your doctor. Your symptoms may get better before the infection is completely treated. Cephalexin will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu.

I've been taking KEFLEX since I got out of the hospital for a kidney infection on Wednesday. I was so weak, sleepy/tired so "out of it", that I've been in bed practically the entire day and my husband has had to watch our two small children by himself because I simply am unable to function. I have an awful metallic taste in my mouth, no appetite, my body physically hurts all over, food/drink doesn't taste right so I'm not eating/drinking much at all, sweats and chills. I believe this medicine was manfucatured in the 9th circle of hell by satan himself. My husband already had to miss work all last week and if I'm not any better tomorrow he will have to miss Monday as well. Fortunately, he has plenty of PTO but we try to save his days in case he needs them. I'm calling my dr. tomorrow and if I have to I will DEMAND a different course of antibiotics. In my case, the cure is worse than the illness. Blech.

I am simply shocked by all of these reports, but unfortunately I can agree with them.
After a baseball injury and hand surgery, I was prescribed Keflex. Due to the time of the surgery and my recovery, I took a total of 4 pills, (supposed to take 4x a day for 5 days) --- On the second day, or 24 hr. interval, about 2 hours after (26 hrs and 4 pills in), I started to have a strange dizziness, major headache and severe nausea. I was in misery. I had been experiencing depression for some strange reason, but thought that was just coincidental. Suddenly, I then started to the shake violently with fever and chills, I vomited three times, then shook for about 30 mins, then it subsided. I feel asleep and feel better.
I stopped taking this drug. Never again will I ever take Keflex.

(I'm a 32 yo female, otherwise healthy.) I was on keflex 3x a day for 10 days, for strep throat. It helped; my sore throat went away in 2-3 days, but I felt worn/tired and dragging the whole 10 days, though not excessively sleepy. I started getting diarrhea, but managed it by taking a probiotic, which worked well enough.
The worst part was that it killed my concentration and made me very emotional and easily irritated. I had trouble reading, deciding what to do next both at work and at home, staying focused on planning a grocery list, or remembering what I had just set down or walked into a room to do. I normally have a very good memory. I also noticed that I was dropping things a lot, which is very rare for me, and it made me very clumsy playing piano.
This medication also affected my thinking and emotions. When I would think about a slightly emotional event in my life, I would be unusually overwhelmed with feelings, easily escalating into fears and anger, and imagining worst-case scenarios. Again, not normal for me. It was very invasive to my daily routine, since I'd find myself obsessing on the emotions for a couple hours at a time, unable to de-escalate and task switch back to anything productive.
Today's my first day off the meds and I'm already feeling clearer, happier, calmer, and more able to plan and concentrate.
