Whenever possible, it is better to use corticosteroid medications that only go where they are needed. Specifically, corticosteroids can be sprayed into the nose for nasal symptoms, or inhaled into the lungs for allergy-related asthma, rather than injected or taken in pill form. This is preferable, because much of your body is not affected by allergies , and there is usually no reason to give a whole-body medicine. In addition, the doses involved with injected or oral corticosteroids are much higher ... your symptoms, it is best to have prescriptions on hand so that you can start the medicines quickly, when you need them. 52 yr old healthy active female - Oct. I went to dr for sinus infection. He suggested allergies as cause for sinus problems and said a allergy shot would help. I asked side effects - he said none. A few days later the heaadaches started, fatigue, also hot flashes so bad I could not sleep. I also have a sore or tightning in my throat. After a month I went to the dr and he said it was menopalse and started me on estrogen. This did help some. I did notice when working out my laft arm was not as strong and ached alot. About a week ago I my arm was tender more than usual and I found the indention. After a few days I remembered the "allergy shot". FInally I started searching online and found more information. Today I went to the dr. I asked the nurse what the injection was that I recieved in Oct. - yes kenalog. The dr came in I told him my symptons and that I thought it was due to the Kenalog - he said he had never heard if that happening. Basically I was wrong. I mentioned the internet - you can''t bbelieve everything on the internet. I really don't think he believed me. but he did offer me something for my headaches with a seditive so I can sleep? Later he offered to send me to a dermtotolgist. I delined the seditive and decided to try getting advise for this posting. Also will go to FDA and report the adverse effects. Can anyone let me know what to expect now - shsould I go to dertomolgist?

Thank goodness I found this website because I was beginning to think I was crazy trying to link the dent in my hip/butt cheek to the injection that I had about 5 months ago. I got the shot to try to clear up a sinus infection and after I had the shot I noticed that the bruise seemed to last a long time. But just in the last few weeks I started to notice the huge dent. This is so strange and I hope it doesn't continue to get bigger. I hadn't noticed any other side effects but now am wondering if my constant itching and skin irritation is linked to the injection as well. This is just confirmation that when it comes to medications these day - less is more!

I had a kenalog injection for severe nerve pain from a double lumbar fusion surgery done several years ago. At that time was told the surgeon used morphogenic protien to help fuse the vertebrae together. Now I have very severe nerve pain and spasms and sought help from my general practise doctor. I was given a huge 3cc or more..injection of kenalog in my left hip buttock area. I had pain relief after a week or so. However, that was followed by severe bruising and now a huge four finger across as well as deep divet has continued to grow in the injection site. The pain is radiating into my left leg and foot. I wonder what the hell these pharmasudical companies are doing to us. After the kenalog my autoimmune disease went nuts. And I now have been diagnosed with a severe case of Lichen Planus inside my mouth. Watch out for these doctors. They are in no way trying to help us.

Kenalog Chemical Information

triamcinolone acetonide - The acetonide salt form of triamcinolone, a synthetic glucocorticosteroid with immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory activity. Triamcinolone acetonide binds to specific cytosolic glucocorticoid receptors and subsequently interacts with glucocorticoid receptor response element on DNA and alters gene expression. This results in an induction of the synthesis of certain anti-inflammatory proteins while inhibiting the synthesis of certain inflammatory mediators. Consequently, an overall reduction in chronic inflammation and autoimmune reactions are accomplished.
