Lorazepam Information

Lorazepam

Lorazepam, initially marketed under the brand names Ativan and Temesta, is a benzodiazepine drug with short to medium duration of action. It has all five intrinsic benzodiazepine effects: anxiolytic, amnesic, sedative/hypnotic, anticonvulsant and muscle relaxant.[4] It is a powerful anxiolytic, and, since its introduction in 1977, lorazepam's principal use has been in treating the symptom of anxiety. Among benzodiazepines, lorazepam has a relatively high addictive potential.

i have been on Lorazepam for almost 7 months now- I've been weaning off for 3 months. i just want to warn everybody and anybody how physically addicting these pills are. not in the sense where u want to abuse them, but in the sense when it wears off your body goes through wicked withdrawal. It also can cause more anxiety! it causes memory loss, mood swings, depression, ADDICTION, extreme fatigue, headaches, feeling like your in a dream, light headedness... and it goes on from there. Never let a doctor say its ok to take this on a daily basis. this medication should only be taken as needed, for example: only when a panic attack is coming on or happening. I feel very strongly about this subject because many people, including myself, are misinformed. i have been going through hell being on this medication AND its even worse trying to get off of it. I take 6mg-8mg to sleep at night. Now I heard that memory loss can be a side effect. Does anyone know about that? My head feels very full and thick at times, which i think is a side effect of a different drug I'm on (geodon), but has anyone experienced that? I'm on five drugs and i'm trying to sort out which side effect is from which drug... need help

Lorazepam Chemical Information

lorazepam - A benzodiazepine with anxiolytic, anti-anxiety, anticonvulsant, anti-emetic and sedative properties. Lorazepam enhances the effect of the inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid on the GABA receptors by binding to a site that is distinct from the GABA binding site in the central nervous system. This leads to an increase in chloride channel opening events, a facilitation of chloride ion conductance, membrane hyperpolarization, and eventually inhibition of the transmission of nerve signals, thereby decreasing nervous excitation.
