Nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic which is marketed under the following brand names; Furadantin, Macrobid, Macrodantin, Nitro Macro and Urantoin. It is usually used in treating urinary tract infection. Like many other drugs, it is often used against E Coli.
Resistance to other antibiotics has led to increased interest in this agent.
It is sometimes described as being appropriate to use in pregnant patients (along with other agents such as sulfisoxazole or cephalexin). This is in contrast to agents such as trimethoprim and ciprofloxacin which may not be appropriate for pregnant women.

I have an UTI doctor prescribed Macrobid, I have took 7 doses and feel like crap. I kinda thought it was from the Macrobid but thought it could have been something else like the flu. It started with feeling very tired, sleepy and headaches. Now I am nauseous, sore legs, shoulders and back of neck stiff, my eyes sting, hands and feet have burning sensation, abdominal cramps, bloating, body feels heavy and wore out, loose bowels, hot flashes, and very dry mouth. I hope I have took enough that I can stop the meds. I know you are supposed to take it all but I just cant go on like this. I'm done with it.

I am NOT taking my last dose of macrobid. I took my second to last dose for a UTI not even an hour ago and my heart keeps fluttering. I was laying on my side watching tv and then its like my heart was trying to leap out of my chest. It is sooo scary!! Im also getting terrible neck pains and headaches from this med. Im really worried can this med cause permanent heart damage?? It seems like every medication Im put on some crazy side effect ALWAYS happens.

Took the generic form of Macrobid for a UTI, had horrible stabbing pains in gut and diarrhea. A few days after I finished the course of meds, my hands and feet and groin itch!! It is driving me crazy. Am wondering if it eventually goes away or this is permanent!! If ANYONE has an answer, PLEASE respond!!
