Neurontin Information

Neurontin

Gabapentin is an anti-epileptic medication, also called an anticonvulsant. It affects chemicals and nerves in the body that are involved in the cause of seizures and some types of pain. Gabapentin is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat seizures caused by epilepsy in adults and children who are at least 12 years old. Gabapentin is also used with other medications to treat partial seizures in children who are 3 to 12 years old. Gabapentin is also used to treat nerve pain caused by herpes virus or shingles (herpes zoster). Gabapentin may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide. Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Gabapentin can be taken with or without food. If you break a tablet and take one half of it, take the other half at your next dose. Any tablet that has been broken should be used as soon as possible or within a few days. Measure liquid medicine with a special dose-measuring spoon or cup not a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one. Gabapentin can cause you to have unusual results with certain medical tests. Tell any doctor who treats you that you are using gabapentin. Do not stop taking gabapentin for seizures without first talking to your doctor, even if you feel better.

Recent Neurontin Side Effects

Posted by painsufferer 4 days ago
I have been on 300 mg x 3 per day of Neurontin (for one month) for severe back pain and noticed I have frequent episodes of vertigo to the point of almost tipping over head first. I also experience staggering (which is embarrassing because it looks like I am drunk), vision problems, tingling in my arms & hands, headaches and problems with my memory. Of course this medication has almost eliminated my severe lower back pain. Hopefully these side effects will subside after I have been on it for a while, as the alternative is prescription NSAIDs which destroy my stomach, or opiates, which are addicting and have their own annoying side effects. I will see how it goes in the next few months.

I too have been on 2400 mg of Neurontin for the past 10 years. This year has been the worst year for me. I am experiencing severe anxiety and nervousness throughout my whole body. I feel like little people are walking through my body. It is like restless leg syndrome all over my body, my arms, shoulders, back legs and feet. It use to last a few hours, but now it is a continuous ongoing thing that is driving me to the point of insane. I also started taking his for a back injury and surgery that caused me to have both hands with ulnar nerve damage to both my hands. It seemed to help a bit, but I cannot continue to live on this rollercoaster anxiety/nervousness that I am feeling. I cannot sleep, I cannot do anything but feel as though I am going crazy. My vision is bad, no sex drive, weight gain, mad all the time, mentally unhappy. I have no muscle strength left. Can somebody tell me that if I stop taking this wicked drug, will I get better. I am weining myself off to see if this is the problem. I also suffer from chronic diarrhea which leaves me unable to go and do things. My life is at a standstill at this point. Help please. I am scheduled to see a neurologist this week. I will post his answers to this issue.

I started Neurontin 100 mg on 9/29/09 and was increased to 100mg twice a day on 10/03/09 then to 100mg three times a day on 10/18/09, all for leg and feet numbness. On 11/12/09 it was increased to 200mg three times a day. All this time there was no difference i the numbness, but I started giting blisters down both thumbs and first fingers(total of 16) also started getting severe pains under my lower r/s ribs from to front to the side, a dry cough and a high increase in blood pressure, up to 189/96 when it was 116/71 before taking Neurontin. My dr. has stopped the Neurontin and put me on Warfrain and scheduled me for a C/T scan and a echocardiogram. H states the that these might be side effects of the Neurontin. A case of the cure?being worse than than problem
