Norvasc
Amlodipine is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. Amlodipine relaxes (widens) blood vessels and improves blood flow. Amlodipine is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) or chest pain (angina). Amlodipine may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide. Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Amlodipine is usually taken once daily. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results from this medication. Your chest pain may become worse when you first start taking amlodipine or when your dose is increased. Call your doctor if your chest pain is severe or ongoing. Amlodipine is only part of a complete program of treatment that may also include diet, exercise, weight control, and other medications. Follow your diet, medication, and exercise routines very closely. If you are being treated for high blood pressure, keep using this medication even if you feel fine. High blood pressure often has no symptoms, so you may not know when your blood pressure is high. You may need to use blood pressure medication for the rest of your life. Store amlodipine at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light; Before taking amlodipine, tell your doctor if you have congestive heart failure or liver disease. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking amlodipine.

My symptoms are similar. Have been on Azor 20/5mg. It's the combination (generic) of Olmesartan (which is Benicar 20) and Amlodipine 5mg
(which is Norvasc). Since taking drug have noticed numbness and swelling of lower lages and feet. The cardiologist I go to told me
that Amlodipine (Norvasc) can cause swelling of feet and legs. Dr suggested I discontinue Azor and take Benicar alone. Hope
leaving out Amlodipine solves the problem. Will keep you posted and return with end results, if any.

Are there any meds that are safe? I was taking 10mg norvasc. I started taking 20/25 mg lisinopril. I was doing ok on the norvasc but the added lisinopril has almost killed me. They had cut my norvasc down to 5 mg then to 2.5 mg when I started the lisinopril. 4 days ago I stopped the lisinopril and added back 2.5 mg norvasc. Back to 5 mg. The side effects seem to be letting up. Now im wondering is all of my meds are killing me. I can't live without them. My BP sores. Im so scared of what I should do. Im afraid of all my meds.

I have been on a generic form of Norvasc (only 2.5 mg) for two months. No swelling that I have noticed but in the past few weeks I have had mild chest pain that comes and goes. First I thought it was stress or I was imagining it but today I was fine and 5 minutes after I took my dose I felt a mild pain/pressure in my chest. Also,at times I feel dizzy and tired. I am calling my doctor today to get me off of this and hopefully find another BP med. I am exercising now so I can eventually get off meds completely. These side effects scare me more than having mild hypertension.

Norvasc Chemical Information
amlodipine besylate - The besylate salt of amlodipine, a synthetic, dihydropyridine, calcium channel blocker with antihypertensive and antianginal effects. Amlodipine inhibits the influx of extracellular calcium ions into myocardial and peripheral vascular smooth muscle cells, thereby preventing vascular and myocardial contraction. This results in a dilatation of the main coronary and systemic arteries,decreases myocardial contractility, increases blood flow and oxygen delivery to the myocardial tissue and decreases total peripheral resistance. This agent may also modulate multi-drug response (MDR) activity through inhibition of the p-glycoprotein efflux pump.
