Pravachol
Pravastatin is a cholesterol-lowering medication that blocks the production of cholesterol (a type of fat) in the body. Pravastatin reduces low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and total cholesterol in the blood. Lowering your cholesterol can help prevent heart disease and hardening of the arteries, conditions that can lead to heart attack, stroke, and vascular disease. Pravastatin is used to treat high cholesterol. Pravastatin is also used to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack, or other heart complications in people with coronary heart disease. Pravastatin may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Take pravastatin with a full glass of water. Pravastatin can be taken with or without food. Pravastatin is usually taken once a day. Try to take your dose at the same time each day. Follow your doctor's instructions. To be sure this medication is helping your condition, your blood will need to be tested on a regular basis. Your liver function may also need to be tested. Do not miss any scheduled visits to your doctor. In rare cases, pravastatin can cause a condition that results in the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue. This condition can lead to kidney failure.

Previously, I was on vytorin, and had bad muscle pain in my hands. I took myself off that medication, and tried to lower my cholesterol on my own. Unfortunately that did not work, and after a year, my doctor put me on Pravachol. I have been on it four months now. Two months ago, I started having pain in my knee and both shoulders. It was really bad at night when the tingling in my hands started. I figured it was a subluxation in my upper back causing it. The pain has continuously gotten worse, and now I have deep aching in my arms, some of my fingers are popping, my hands are swelling, I have pain in my legs. Like others, I figured it must be arthritis, (I'm 61 and very active). This past week has been terrible, and I haven't been able to sleep at all. But, last night as I lay awake in pain, it came to me that this might be from the Pravachol. My research led me to this site and all of the postings from others. Thank you all! I'm stopping this medication today and I'm going to see if I get better.

ok I am 35 and just took my Pravastatin 20 mg. aka pravachol for the first time ever. This question is going to sound crazy because no one seems to ever have these symptoms so far that i have read. I took my pill and 39 minutes later i felt high like a marijuana high or a pain pill type of affect. i feel the pain in my muscles but it almost feels like a muscle relaxer to me I seem to be having opposite affects of this drug. Has ANYONE had this experience please please let me know.

Developed deep muscle aching and weakness in my legs to the point it was an effort to even get across the street. I quit taking Pravachol and never had the symptoms again. Not sure what I'm going to do next...maybe work harder on exercise and diet?
