Metoclopramide increases muscle contractions in upper digestive tract. This speeds up the rate at which the stomach empties into the intestines. Metoclopramide is used short-term to treat heartburn caused by gastroesophageal reflux in people who have used other medications without relief of symptoms. Metoclopramide is also used to treat slow gastric emptying in people with diabetes (also called diabetic gastroparesis), which can cause nausea, vomiting, heartburn, loss of appetite, and a feeling of fullness after meals. Metoclopramide may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide. Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Take this medicine with a full glass of water. Measure liquid medicine with a special dose-measuring spoon or cup not a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one. The oral concentrate form of metoclopramide must be mixed with another liquid, such as water, fruit juice, soda, or a soft food like applesauce or pudding. Carefully follow mixing directions to make sure you get the correct dose. Metoclopramide is usually taken before meals and at bedtime. Your doctor may want you to take the medication as needed only with meals that usually cause heartburn.

I was put on Reglan for acid reflux first 4x a day 10 mg,then my doctor used it to 15 mg 4 x a day. I started to get more and more anxiety,nervous and jittery I couldn't concentrate and started to have crying outbursts. I finally had like I felt a nervous breakdown and the doctor on call prescribed anti anxiety just to calm me down. He said to get off the Reglan immediately! I was on it for 2 months and I'm still fighting anxiety after 3 weeks of being off it. The twitching of my eye comes and goes better then everyday like it was. I wish I would have never heard of this drug,but I trusted my doctor was doing the best thing for me.

My husband was put on Reglan generic November 11, 2008 for acid reflux. Saw Doctor in Dec. and again in March. Told to continue taking drug and come back in four more months. His side effect were loss of bladder control, erectile disfunction and unable to sleep. He did cut the dose and the lack of bladder control stopped. My husband committed suicide April 7, 2009. He had never had depression in the past and we had no idea he would even consider this. Another lady in my small town husband did the same thing taking the horrible drug!!!

I have had two AWFUL experiences with Reglan! First time, I was in the ER with high blood pressure and a very bad headache. To treat the headache, I was given a combo of Reglan IV and "unknown". Right away I started sweating and freaking out! The only thing i could focus on was leaving. I felt this overwhelming desire to pull out my own IV and go home! I was so tired but couldn't rest... my mind just raced with depressing thoughts. They discharged me in this state... I didn't argue... I couldn't get out fast enough. However, I hardly made it home. I can not believe I was allowed to drive home in such a state. Not knowing what meds caused me to have such a reaction... it happened again last week! I was in the Emergency Room having treatment for a spinal leak from a spinal tap a few days prior. I complained of back pain (no kidding) and was given meds in my IV. Same thing...all over again! This time my mother witnessed the horrible reaction. The nurse only gave me a cold towel for my head and it took 2 days to start feeling back to normal... NEVER will I have this medication again.
