I have been taking remeron (Mirtazapine) for about 3 years. When I first took the drug it was very strange I got extremely sleeping within 5 minutes of taking it and everything was in SLOW motion, and I mean slow, I usually to go sleep listening to my iPod or a CD and when I was on the drug the songs were playing slow and every time I closed my eyes I would have powerful visualizations, whatever I thought about seemed to manifest in front of my eyes I don’t really know how to describe it. And of course I felt very hungry and was able to eat a lot more which was good at first but the longer I stayed on the drug the slowmo moments started to go away and I wasn’t as hungry, so I tried to stop it cold turkey because I've stopped other Anti-Depressants cold turkey with little to no problem but after about 3 days of not taking the remeron I start feeling paranoid and I have unbelievable gastric pains, I would break out in sweats and could not sleep, I had to go to the ER one night it was so bad (Also when taking the drug I have a very vivid dream every night or every time I sleep). So I'm hoping someone out there has had a similar experience and can give some advice on how to wean myself off of it.

Started taking Remeron 15mg once a night for severe depression, anxiety, sleep issues. However, I never felt like I was depressed. I have been on it for about a month. I felt like it had cured my constant anxiety issue until I got uncontrollable anxiety the other night. I am always sleepy and still wake up many times at night; however am able to get back to sleep unlike before. I some time have panic attacks after taking the meds because I am scared of meds. Over the past four weeks I have had an increase in anger and sometimes have felt really depressed. I have also found that I can eat and eat and eat and not be full. I have gained 20 lbs., which is not so bad seeing I recently lost weight due to an endoscopy, but I believe if I continue with this med I will gain too much. The last few days aside from the anxiety I feel like I have periods where my brain is mentally numb and I can't feel emotion and also times where there is a rock in my brain that is not allowing me to always think clearly.

mirtazapine - A synthetic derivative of piperazino-azepines, tetracyclic antidepressant Mirtazapine acts by an unknown mechanism that enhances central adrenergic and serotonergic transmission. Structurally unrelated to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, tricyclics, or monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI), it also affects muscarinic transmission and has parasympatholytic properties.
