epinephrine bitartrate - The bitartrate salt form of epinephrine, a direct-acting sympathomimetic amine with bronchodilator and vasoconstricting activity. Epinephrine bitartrate acts on both alpha and beta adrenergic receptors. By stimulating alpha adrenergic receptors locally, this agent causes vasoconstriction and reduces vascular blood flow. Administered in the conjunctiva, epinephrine bitartrate induces vasoconstriction and decreases the production of aqueous humor mediated through alpha-adrenergic receptors. Through its beta-stimulating actions, this agent relaxes bronchial smooth muscle and causes bronchodilation.
articaine hydrochloride - The hydrochloride salt form of articaine, an amide-type local anesthetic. Articaine hydrochloride reversibly blocks nerve impulse conduction by binding to specific membrane sodium ion channels thereby interfering with the electrical excitation in the nerve, slowing the propagation of the nerve impulse and reducing the rate of rise of the action potential. This results in a loss of sensation at the injection site. Articaine hydrochloride is used for relief of pain in minor operations, usually in combination with the vasoconstrictor epinephrine.
