Singulair is a leukotriene (loo-koe-TRY-een) inhibitor. Leukotrienes are chemicals your body releases when you breathe in an allergen (such as pollen). These chemicals cause swelling in your lungs and tightening of the muscles around your airways, which can result in asthma symptoms.
Singulair is used to prevent asthma attacks in adults and children as young as 12 months old. It is also used to relieve runny nose and sneezing caused by allergies in adults and children as young as 6 months old.
Singulair is also used to prevent exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (narrowing of the air passages in the lungs) in people who are not already taking this medicine for other conditions.

Everyones is getting paranoid - look Singulair is just like all other drugs - u simply take it to cure your sickness it could be 2 days to 2 months. Dont OVERINDULGE and go over board overmedicating your selfs or your kids. Give when necessary. I take Singulair when I need to sometimes for 2 days, and thats it. It cures real good, finally I can breathe. My Migrane headache gone. But ya Remember - its a drug. Alldrugs make you feel a little strange, Singular is no exception. Just take until cured and get over it. Dont get addicted to Singular and everything will be OK.

My son is 6. He has been taking Singulair for 6 months. He has had aweful behaviors with this med he is very violent, he has back pain and leg pain to the point tylenol does not help. Also he has a chronic cough at night...all night long. He developed hives 2 days ago which there is no cause for as of yet so he is on a steroid to help with that as well. Are these symptoms of Singulair? Thank you so much

montelukast sodium - The monosodium salt of montelukast, a selective and orally active leukotriene receptor antagonist with anti-inflammatory and bronchodilator activity. Montelukast sodium selectively and competitively blocks the cysteinyl leukotriene 1 (CysLT1) receptor, thereby preventing leukotriene D4 from binding to its receptor. This prevents leukotriene-mediated activities, including enhanced migration of eosinophils and neutrophils, increased adhesion of leukocytes, increased monocyte and neutrophil aggregation, increased airway edema, increased capillary permeability and bronchoconstriction.
