bleeding,

I chose Mirena to help with my severe PMDD and heavy periods, as well as Birth Control pills give me migraines. Depo shots made me gain weight and lose sex drive.

Had Mirena put in this past July. I bled solid for 2 months. Stopped for a few days, started again. I now bleed 3 out of 4 weeks of the month, and my PMDD still comes as usual, though not nearly as badly, same as my periods. This is the only positive thing I've had. My periods had been so heavy they interrupted my life.

My sex drive, previously higher than my husbands, is now dead, and I hate it.

I've gained 20 pounds and CANNOT get it back off.

I'm always tired, wasn't before.

I have constant stabbing pains in my abdomen. After orgasms, it hurts horribly.

I will leave my Mirena in merely because even though I bleed all the time, it is preferable to the heavy bleeding I'd have before I had the Mirena inserted. I'm also willing to put up with the weight gain and sex drive loss, because to me, the lighter bleeding and lack of cramping outweighs the weight gain and sex drive loss issues.

I am so relieved to has found this page. I had no idea how many people on the NuvaRing were having the problems I've been having. I started using the NuvaRing a few years ago soon after starting to have sex. I wasn't very good at remembering my pill everyday, so I thought it would be a good option. I was so happy in the beginning because I could depend on it.

However, the first major thing that happened a few months later was IBS symptoms, which has put a big damper on my life since. I never know what food item will cause me to cramp and bloat next. It changes every day. I have always doubted this symptom attributed to Nuva until now. I thought my metabolism was changing because I was entering the workforce and exposing myself to new levels of stress.

Next, I never expected that it would diminish my sex drive. I have to convince myself that I'm in the mood, feeling responsible for maintaining a healthy sex life with my husband. That sounds so horrible, and it is. I'm almost never in the mood, not even to masturbate, and I have to keep a calendar to keep track of the last time I pleased my husband. I have not had a real orgasm since before starting the nuva.

It doesn't help to not only be not in the mood, but also when I do have sex, it's uncomfortable, burning, and very painful urinating afterwards. On many occasions, the ring gets pulled out a little during sex, causing a moment of uncomfortable prodding plastic for both of us, and I need to stop long enough to take it out and put it somewhere so I remember to put it back in again. Sex is more comfortable without it after that, but the irritation is still there. It takes a few days to heal before having sex again.

The last straw is more recent. I began to get discharge - a lot - starting the second week in the cycle. It wasn't a yeast infection, as I had a physical and pap at this time and the doctor would have picked it up. There was some itching, but mostly, I've had to wear panty liners 3 out of 4 weeks, including my menstrual cycle. This makes me feel less appealing, and much less interested in having spontaneous sex because I have to clean up first.

It just sucks that this has effected me for almost my whole relationship with my husband. Our dates, our honeymoon, our first anniversary vacation last month. All this time, and I find that the only prescription drug I'm on is what has caused me so much stress, sexual tension, and digestive ailment. One can only imagine what all these other happy commercialized medicines have in store for us, and in multiple amounts!

I was wondering.......it hurt like hell when it was inserted. For those of you that had it removed, "HOW BAD DOES THE REMOVAL HURT?" I am afraid to have it removed but know it is necessary.

I've called my doctor and am waiting on a reply from the nurse. I want my Mirena removed. I posted my symptoms on May 8th. I've had mine in for 4 1/2 months.

My symptoms are in order of severity:

*heavy bleeding 3 out of 4 weeks (pads or tampons with breakthrough bleeding and pantiliner 24/7)
*acne on my back, butt and jawline (going to Derm. and using ProActive)
*I've gained 15 lbs in the past 4 months and it won't come off
*headaches
*a sore spot in my spine (I was fearful I had cancer)
*facial hair
*bloating (I look 4 months pregnant 1/2 of the time)
*low libido
*irritable and moody more than usual
*sore breasts

All I can say is, I don't feel like I am the only woman going insane on this so called "Birth control". It's working for me because I can't even have sex I am bleeding so much. I got the implant on January 8th. I cramped a little and spotted for well over a week. Just as I thought I was finished, I started spotting again. I bled 3 out of 4 weeks. They told me that this would happen until I got used to it. I stopped bleeding for one week and then it was time for my normal period again. I did the same the next month. I started getting acne on my chin and hair on my upper lip and chin and around my nipples. (as if I don't feel gross enough from all the bleeding) My boobs ache the week before I start bleeding for a normal period. My back started breaking out only a few weeks after insertion. I have never had these issues. My butt cheeks and lower back have large cyctic pimples on them. They will not pop or disappear and I have deep scars from them already. It's so bad that I am ashamed to get into bed with my husband. I bought a new skincare product from the TV and it has helped to dry them up, until I miss a day and then I have 10-12 more bumps that pop up. My face is getting very oily as is my chest and back. I am very tired, don't hardly have energy and don't want to leave the house. I try to stay in my pajamas all day if I can. I just went back to work in March because I couldn't stay out anymore. When I went to the doctor for a followup I told them that my husband can feel the string/wire stabbing him when we have sex and she acted like I was looney. My biggest problem is the moodiness, cycstic acne on my butt and lower back and the heavy bleeding I am experiencing. NO ONE told me about these side effects either. They told me I would "spot" for up to 3 months, but not bleed heavy for 3 out of 4 weeks. I am experiencing a low libido 2 weeks and am very horny for the other 2 weeks. Needless to say I want him when I am bleeding so bad there is no way to have sex, he would think he had ripped me open from the amount of blood. Sometimes I think I have stopped bleeding and then all of a sudden I feel a large gush and my pad gets full immediately. It's always very bright red and sometimes has clots in it. It's scary. I have 3 children and am afraid I will pass out due to all this blood loss. I am now on Month 4 and am contemplating having it removed. I've called the doctor but hey haven't returned my call yet. I'm calling them first thing Monday morning and demanding it be removed. I'd rather take a pill everyday or use the Ring. I don't think I can handle anymore bleeding or acne. I miss my husband and I miss the old me. This has been the worst 4 months of my life.

I have been off and on birth control pills for years. I was on Yasmin for 4 years but I had to switch because I started having cramps all of the time, 3 out of 4 weeks a month, no sex drive too. Changed to Femcon Fe. Not too bad. I don't know if what I am experiencing is attributed to this pill but I can say I do have cramps when I shouldn't. I have been on this pill about 5 months. I have had my share of pills though. I am getting off after I complete this pack. I think all pills have side effects. You have to figure out which one is best for you and then keep your fingers crossed. I have had the same symptoms many of the other women have had with different pills. My advice,,,,if you are having symptoms that interfere with your life in some way or fashion, talk with your doctor. That pill may not be for you. Hey, after the years....the pill is simply not for me.

This is my 5th month on Loestrin24 Fe and I am going to stop taking it after this month. I have always been a happy, healthy, normal person and ever since being on this pill I have had breakthrough bleeding 3 out of 4 weeks of the month, HORRIBLE anxiety, mood swings, weight gain, and nausea. I have never ever had any of these problems before with any other birth control. My doctor said to wait through the initial 3 months where the side effects are the worst and that they would pass, but it I don't see that happening. They have not decreased and I don't have the drive to continue through these awful side effects. I do not recommend this pill to anyone.

I had the mirena IUD put in and a few months later had it removed. I was getting my period for 3 out of 4 weeks, hair loss, dizzy, no sex drive. Wish I would have went with my gut and got the copper. It has been a month since I have had it removed and everything is getting back to normal.

I am 38 years old and had Mirena put in on Nov. 26th. The first two months I felt pregnant and was nauseous all the time. That seemed to go away and now I can't stop gaining weight. I am gaining about a pound a week. It is all heading toward my stomach area and it's uncomfortable. I have also begun losing hair, having yeast infections, headaches, acne and pain during sex. I wish I found this site before and wonder if anyone has had similar symptoms and do they go away. I have scheduled to have it removed in 3 weeks. I am afraid to have it removed and feel like should I give it more time. Does anyone have any advice?

I've been on Loestrin 24 fe for a little over 4 months now. I haven't noticed any mood problems. However, the first month I had very, very light spotting when I should have had my period. I have not had any bleeding since that time...no spotting or bleeding at all. I have also had pretty significant skin break outs since starting this pill. It is terrifying not having a period, but I think I'd rather not have one than belld 3 out of 4 weeks like I did on Yaz.

IF YOUR UTERUS IS STILL CONTRACTING POST-PARTUM WAIT TO HAVE THE MIRENA IUD PUT IN!!!
I had Mirena put in me the end of September, 6 weeks after my son (my second child) was born. I liked the idea of not having to think about taking a pill everyday and a very light or no period. At my one month check-up, to see if the IUD was still in the proper position, my doctor thought the string seemed too high so, he did an ultrasound to see it's position. He was having a hard time seeing exactly were it was so, sent me to the hospital for a better ultrasound picture. At the hospital they took ultrasound pictures as well as x-rays to determine the position... sure enough the Mirena had moved out of my uterus. Besides the cramping at the time of insertion and for about a week following, I have no pain or other side-effects. My doctor told me I had to have it surgical removed - a tiny camera would go into my belly button to take it out. I'm scheduled to go into the hospital in a few weeks to remove the IUD -- I can't believe I have to surgically have it removed! The worst part is that if I had all the information about this product I wouldn't be having surgery. One of the side effects in the Mirena pamphlet is something about uterus perforation - meaning the IUD moves out of the uterus. What you're not told is how this happens. My doctor now tells me this can happen if the uterus is still contracting after giving birth. That's why they wait six weeks post-partum -- hopefully long enough for the contractions to stop. I knew my uterus was still contracting -- I still feel it almost every time I breastfeed my baby boy. So, women, if you are considering the Mirena IUD after just giving birth, WAIT until you are sure your uterus is done contracting... the last thing you want to do is go back to the hospital to have this thing surgically removed!!! Well, I better start pumping now to store-up enough milk for my baby while I spend the entire day in the hospital without him ;o{

I am 28 years old, I have been on Yasmin for 14 months and have had horrible depression issues. I am always tired. I can't sleep. I have absolutley no sex drive. I lost weight when I first started taking it, but have gained 19 pounds in a year. I am hypoglycemic and have to watch my sugar intake, just as a diabetic would. I was not told that there was potassium in this pill and that eating a bannana could put me in the hospital. I found that out though only after being in the hospital and feeling like I was going to die. I was put on Yasmin because I have problems with bleeding 3 out of 4 weeks a month. Trust me this pill is not what it is cracked up to be.

I began birth control about 6 weeks ago and I'm not sure if these things that have been happening to my body are because of it. Anyone had severe stomach pains, so bad that you have to go to the hospital and you vomit? Also, I have been constipated for several weeks. The past 3 out of 4 weekends, I have had horrible stomach sickness with fever, vomiting, and diarrhea -anyone else experienced this?
Also, will this extreme breast tenderness ease up?
