I was prescribed this medicine for a breast abscess. I have a bad reaction to penicillin and levaquin was given to me as an alternative. I took the first pill at 11:00 pm. I woke up about every 30 minutes drenched in sweat until 2:00 and then could not go back to sleep. I took drinks of water when I woke up in order to keep hydrated. I have a lap band, and I noticed that the water wasn’t going down easily which let me know the medicine had made my stomach swell. I finally fell asleep around 3:30 and had evil nightmares until 5am. I was afraid to go back to sleep so I decided I'd just stay awake until time for me to get up for work. I will be calling my doctor's office as soon as they open to let her know this medicine is not for me. After reading your stories, I refuse to take it another day.

I found this site looking for any comments regarding life after Mirena. I can't say that I liked having it, but I didn't hate it. I have a friend who loves hers and said it has actually made her moods better. I had my Mirena for 2 years. I could at times feel it (not the stings, but I could actually feel the pressure caused by it), but the only side effect that really bothered me were the mood swings. I had horrible mood swings usually only at PMS time. I was like a crazy uncontrollable shrew. Some of the mood swings were so bad that I worried I might fly off the handle and hit somebody. I knew the mirena was causing my moods and thought about having it removed, but it was so much easier just to leave it in. I had it removed 3 days ago- to have another child, not because of the side effects. My over all mood is so much better. I don't know if it was psychological or what, but I was happier and felt better within 30 minutes. While I will not say that it was a bad form of BC for me- I will say that I won't be getting another one.

Hello everyone. I am a 40 year old female and have been on Toprol XL 50 mg. for about 6 years now. In the beginning I was taking Toprol, then because my prescription plan wanted to switch I am on Metoprolol. I was prescribed this after a stress test because my heart rate did not go down as quickly as the cardiologist wanted it. If only I knew what I did now, I would never have started it. HELLO!! I weighed 200 lbs. at the time and was a couch potato. What did he expect? Of course my heart rate wasn't going to go down being so out of shape. I am so angry that I was prescribed this drug for such a stupid reason. I am also on meds to lower my blood sugar and high blood pressure. I know that all of my problems are due to my weight and so I've made a decision to seriously change my diet so I can get off of all of this crap. I currently weigh 217 lbs. But as you all know, being on Toprol, it's so hard to lose weight. I want off of this crap as soon as possible. Can any one of you guys who has gotten themselves off of this medication please send me some information as to how you got off of Toprol XL? My doctor is a real moron who works solely for pharmaceutical companies so I refuse to go to him. I will be changing doctors soon.

Gran-Mal Seizures and myoclonic jerks for over 30 years as a result of being struck by lightning while serving in the Marine Corp. Have tried "all" of the medications and most made it difficult to do my civilian job. (School Administrator) The best advice I every received was to keep a diary and record everything I could remember happening to me before a seizure. By doing this I have been able to develop a warning system of oncoming seizures. (Same think as most people saying they can feel a headache coming on,) I can live with the myoclonic jerks as they only occur once or twice per day. The seizures while at work or driving are a different matter. (I have warning signs for seizures on the average of once or twice per week, and around one per month goes into a seizure.) Most of the medications other than Lamictal cover up my warning signs and I simply refuse to take them. I work very close with my family Dr. who understands my case better then most Neurologist I have ever had. Neurologist want to give any drug at a strength that will stop all seizures and that can and often does result in side effects that prevent normal live. Lamictal in low dosage, 25mg twice per day may make my seizures less sevier. Any higher dosages causes many of the side effects others have described on this site, but for me the biggest problem is that it blocks my warning signs of oncoming seizure. I get 20 to 30 minutes warning of oncoming seizures and many times can avoid a seizure by just stop doing what I am working on and taking a break and resting. If that does not work, I take two 10 Mg Valium and find a soft place to lay down, the valium will stop or lessen my seizure and I will sleep for one or two hours, and wake up. Sometimes I will have a seizure after taking the valium, but I am in bed or resting and usually under observation. My key has been to learning the warning signs of an oncoming seizure in time to get to a safe place and by always having the valium with me. We are all different individuals and our medical problems are different. Share everything you can remember with a Dr. you trust and attempt to develop warning signs of an oncoming seizure is the best advice I can give after over 30 years of living with a seizure disorder.

I'm writing this at 4:50am as I am awake because of a flushing episode. I've been taking Niaspan ER 500mg to raise my good cholesterol for about 9 months. So far it's raised only from 33 to 36. Doctor wants it above 40. My bad cholesterol is fine.

This is probably the 4th time I've had one of these flushing attacks in 9 months. My skin is itchy from head to toe and my body looks like I have a sunburn. The itch is pretty intense almost burning. I never take aspirin before but I heard a low dose (81mg) is supposed to help. I actually just took an aspirin now however to see if it shortens this episode. I also noticed the first time this happened that clothing makes the itch even more intense. So needless to say I'm sitting in bed typing on my iPhone w/ out my shirt on trying to get through this.

I noticed the first couple times these seem to last only 20-30 minutes and this particular one is nowhere near as intense as the first time. Or perhaps I'm just more prepared for it because I was also thinking of going to the ER the first time. In case anyone wonders why this happens, I've read 'niacin converts to nicotinamide in the body, and this is when flushing occurs', during that conversion process. Anyhow I heard there was a flush free ' nicotinamide' form of the drug you can take if the flushing is too much or too often.

Well it's now 5:21am and it's starting to subside to a point where I might be able to sleep. I think removing clothing and trying not to move around or scratch too much certainly helps when you have one of the flushing attacks. Good luck everyone.

I was prescribed this medication for an infection I have. 100mg 2 times a day. About 30 minutes after I took it I was violently ill. I was dizzy and slightly delusional. I got sick for about 45minutes. Thanks good I only had water and ginger ale in my stomach. I felt like I was on fire. And I could not stop the feeling of having an anxiety attack. I have stopped taking it and am going back to see my doctor. I think this drug is useless.

I took one 100 mg tablet one night just before bedtime with a little water for my acne, bad idea! I should have taken it with a lot of water and should not have lain down for at least 30 minutes after.
I felt as if something was stuck in the middle of my chest and wouldn't go down no matter how much water,or ginger ale I drank. I could not go to sleep that night, and the feeling of having something stuck in my chest lasted for about 2 days, although to a lesser degree than the first night.
I took pepcid the next day because I thought I had acid reflux or heartburn even though I have never had this feeling before. Doxy makes me dizzy if taken on an empty stomach or not enough liquid. Always take with lots of fluids and make sure you do not take it on an empty stomach.

I was started on Bactrim 7 days ago. The first two days I felt fine, but the 3rd night I got cold...very cold and could not stop shaking for about two hours. My heart was racing and I was nauseated and couldn't focus. This went on for about 8 hours before going to the ER. Upon arrival I had elevated BP and pulse, but after a couple of hours it went down to normal. I saw a new doctor who said it sounded like I had a hypoglycemic attack!! I never had one of those before!! So, I'm figuring I'm getting sicker and maybe it is not from the Bactrim so I take it again and last night was another horrible night!! Racing heart, confusion, and urinating every 30 minutes. Thinking maybe I'm having another attack I get up and eat some applesauce and my husband gives me some sweet tea. I promptly threw up a few times and then we went to the computer to look for ourselves the side effects of this drug. Guess what? It causes hypoglycemia, racing heart, confusion and does something to your kidneys and makes you urinate too much and could be very dangerous!! That was it for me!! I didn't sleep the rest of the night but slept on and off during the day and felt like myself today for the first time since taking the drug. I don't know if it has done any permanent damage, but I will let everyone I know about this awful awful drug!!

I have not been able to find the strings. Initially my doc had cut them to short where they were causing my husband pain during intercourse. She said they would soften up and it would get better. Last week when we finished, I had horrible cramping, almost like contractions. This only went on for 30 minutes but it was pretty bad. I called and made an appt for tomorrow. Hopefully they will just take it out. I have the lower belly bloating too! and gained nearly 15 pounds in the first month alone. I have factor V which is why my doc recommended Mirena, however I am now reading it isnt recommended for people with blood clotting issues. I really just want it out!

I have had the Mirena in me since August of 08 and the day they put it in I never received even a pamphlet. It took the doctor over 30 minutes to get it in me and he asked me if I still wanted it while he was having trouble putting it in. He was the doctor and he should have known.
I was never told to come back for checkups or anything just that it had to come out in 5 years. He told me of no side effects or anything. So thinking it was the best I had it put in. I cramped for 4 days after. I bled really bad and finally it went away. Well then just the past couple of months since my periods started getting lighter all my symptoms are getting worse.
My symptoms include : fatigue, stomach cramping so severe I can hardly walk, mood swings, depression, weight gain and constipation ,my feet go numb all the time and if I stand for a long time to, also have like a stabbing pain in my chest (rare) and Im beginning to not have any sex drive.

Calling the doctor tom to have it removed because I thought all this was in my head until I have researched it past the website.

I received my 1st gardasil 2 weeks ago. Right after receiving it, i felt very dizzy. I layed in the hospital for 30 minutes before i felt any better. The next day my right elbow started hurting, a couple days later my left elbow. My chest started hurting and it felt very heavy to breathe. My heart beats very rapid at times and makes me feel light headed. My arms feel tingly/numb at times, so i called my doctor yesterday to report this, she said these symptoms had nothing to do with gardasil and i needed to see my primary care physician. I would not advise anyone to get this shot. I will not go back to receive the other 2 shots.

I had a lap done last year in May and my doctor removed an adhesion that was hanging above my uterus. Also a fibroid (3 cm) was found in the muscle and is located right against my bladder. My doctor could not remove the fibroid because of its location and because of a risk that I might have scar tissue and could be a problem to get pregnant. He also said that I could have some other complications, like lose a lot of blood. I feel like he is not being straight with me. I also have ovarian cysts which is common in the women in my family. Since a teenager, I always had really bad cramps and heavy bleeding. As I got older, it became worse. Before I had the lap done, I bleed for 6 weeks straight. I was changing pads every 30 minutes. Then my stomach extended so far out that I looked pregnant. I could not sit or stand. My husband had to take me to the E.R. An ultrasound was done and found that my uterus was enlarged (9 cm). I was put on Nothridone to control the bleeding and to treat endometriosis. After taking 2 months of this drug my doctor did a vag lap and abdomen lap. Everything was good that is what he said. I believed it. I was doing better. I was working and had no pain for 8 months. Then it all changed for the worse. I started to have really heavy menstrual bleeding and lots of blood clots. I felt week all the time and sick. The bleeding went on for 8 weeks and finally my doctor said that I had to take Lupron injections. I asked my doctor if he could just do a myomectmy and he said no because that was should be the last result. I could no longer stand the pain and I asked him what kind of side effects come with this drug. He made it sound like it was not bad and that there are very little side effects. He gave me a some information about the drug and I read the information and I did a lot of research. I was terrified but I had to make a choice. I was calling in sick because I could not work with the pain and worrying about embarrassing moments when my pads failed to keep me from overflowing. So I took the 1st shot in May along with add-bak therapy which is Nothridone. The bleeding tapered off slowly and the pelvic pain decreased. I did not feel any side affects right away until the second week. I started to forget things and would just stand in the middle of a room feeling confused. I always had headaches since a child but now they are pounding headaches, which I cannot stand any noise. I also can't stand the light. I have body aches like I have the flu and have problems with my right hip all of a sudden. I had a x-ray done because my doctor thought I might have fractured my hip. There was no sign of a fracture but my pelvis id tilted. I have some arthritis in my spine which I do not understand how that happened. Sometimes I cannot walk and I have to use crutches to get around. I cry all the time because I am extremely sensitive and confused. I use to be a very strong person and now I just cry all the time. I called my doctor to tell him what I have been experiencing and he said its all normal. I have already had a total of three Lupron injections and the symptoms just get worse. I have been spotting here and there, sometimes I have a pinkish discharge, and now the pelvic pain is back. My doctor knows this and he just says its normal. I requested for another ultrasound because I am worried something is wrong and he said that I have to wait until I get the 6th injection.I feel like my doctor is insensitive but he is supposed to be the best GYN doctor where I live. I also want to say that I have gained 20 pounds in three months. My sex drive is gone. My hair is thinning. I lost my job because I ran out of FMLA. This has been a nightmare! I am losing trust in my doctor. My poor husband and family are having to put up with what I am going through. I pray all the time to help be stay focused and think positive. I just do not know what to do anymore. Is there anyone out there that can give me some advice?

Had "walking pneumonia" in February 2008. Went to a couple of primary care physicians before I was finally prescribed AVELOX. I was 40 at the time and have no psychiatric history but within a day of taking AVELOX I suddenly felt like I was being pulled into a black hole of depression. That lasted about 20-30 minutes but felt much longer. The next day, the same feeling happened. I immediately went online and found all of these posts. I stopped taking AVELOX ASAP. Over the next couple of days, those feelings dissappated. I feel so fortunate that my symptoms went away. Every chance I get, I tell people, "DO NOT TAKE AVELOX!" I am wondering how AVELOX remains on the market! How many more people will be temporarily or permanently damaged by this toxin?!

My 2 year old daughter was prescribed zyrtec 24 hour infants formula and after giving it to her once it caused her to pass out and be unconscious for 30 minutes and was non-responsive. She was rushed to the hospital and is ok. She was only given the .5ml as prescribed and this was given the night before this occurred. It was an adverse after effect from the medication.

I will NEVER give my child Zyrtec again. This medication is not safe in my mind.

I had the Mirena inserted back in March (2009) and I had some problems the first 3 weeks of having it in, but everything seems fine now. My periods are regular, not heavy, they don't last a full week anymore, I got off the iron pills I had to take prior to the Mirena because I was bleeding bad, had softball sized clots, it was just awful. Now everything is so much better. Only thing I have is headaches during my periods when before it was severe cramping. I don't mind the headaches so much, one Tylenol and I'm good in 30 minutes. Every woman's body is different, some have bad effects from Mirena, others don't. And believe me, I had a bad time in my life with my body, and since I got used to the Mirena, everything changed for the better. I'm glad I got it.

I've never been allergic to any medications. Within 30 minutes of taking this pill, a huge bubble formed in my mouth on the inside of my lip, I started sneezing like crazy, my throat was itching and my skin was very tingly. I called my pharmacist, he instructed me to take Benadryl. I did and about an hour later the effects had subsided with the exception of my skin still feeling a little strange. This was very scary to me! Today I was telling my m-i-l about it because she too had an allergic reaction to a medication about 3 weeks ago and come to find out - the medicine she reacted to was Avelox! Her reaction was SEVERE, requiring an overnight stay in the hospital. She couldn't breathe and passed out. This seems like a drug that is way too dangerous to be on the market. I've never reacted like this to anything and my mother-in-law almost DIED because of it. What is going on?!

I suffer from gout... this was the first time I took Prednisone, and, in terms of foot swelling / pain , it worked well.

However... 20-30 minutes after taking 20mg of prednisone, I experienced eye problems. I began seeing "floaters." I experienced significant eye "pressure?" for 24 hours. 48 hours later the pain went away. It's difficult to explain. I'm not a doctor. My eyes felt "big." "Intra-ocular eye pressure" might be the correct term.

I don't know how to explain it... it really messed with my eyes. Neither my doctor nor my pharmacist could confirm this as a side effect.

Has anyone experienced this? Thank you.

Avelox! :-(
I don't no where to start.. I initially went in to the doctor and was diagnosed with bronchitis and was prescribed Avelox. I had been on antibiotics before but never this one. Well I took my 1st dose and with in 30 minutes my mouth was consumed with a very bitter acrid taste. As I continued on taking 1 pill once a day, by pill 2 and 3; I was waking up in the middle of the night in a pool of sweat shaking the glads under my neck aching. It seemed that the floor and room was spinning. Pill 4 and 5, I experienced burning head ache, it felt like acid was slowly being poured over my brain and the diarrhea that I initially had in the beginning got worse not just watery but now slimy and mucusy along with the burning head ache that I'm having trouble even typing this comment, I have extreme heart burn even spiting up bial in my sleep. I have all of this going on while trying to make it to the bathroom room, room spinning and my heart is pounding and my legs are shaking so bad I can barley let my self down on the toilette. Pill 6 and 7, I have slurred speech and I can barely complete a sentence much less write this comment so please for give my typos. I've been lying in my bed thinking that I'm dieing trying to figure out witch one on my family members I should contact because something bad can happen and I don't know how bad it will get. As of right now 6:30pm central standard time May 7th I'm considering going to the emergency room! I just hope there is no permanent damage. I will have since discontinued my prescription and will let you know how it goes.

I am so glad I found this site...have been on doxycycline for about a week and spent about 30 minutes in the sun...oops! my toes and knuckles on my hands feel like they are on fire constantly. They are red and swollen. They burn just sitting here! Is there anything that can be done to help? I quit taking the medication. I was on it for acne treatment, but decided I will live with it rather than deal with the pain of sunburned feet and hands!

I got my Mirena in on 10/28/08. It was probably the most painful experience ever. I was in tears before they were done, once they got it in I fainted and woke up to someone taking my blood pressure. I had to wait about 30 minutes after they inserted it until I felt okay to stand. They told me I would bleed and cramp for about 3 months. The bleeding at first was heavy and constant. Now, I spot completely randomly...it does seem to be getting a little bit better but it's completely unpredictable. The cramps hurt so bad that I bought my own heating pad. Now I get cramping about twice a week...it's so bad that I have to lay in bed for hours. The summer prior to getting my mirena I noticed some weight gain. However, i am still gaining weight despite going to the gym and improving my diet. I also have bouts of acne, mostly around my jawline. I have been very fatigued as well. The past week or so it has been much more noticeable, around midday. Lower back pain has also been a side effect for me. I'm getting my mirena removed today in an hour, I will update when I return... I hope it doesn't hurt as much. I did however, love the sexual freedom that came along with mirena. I was awful at remembering my pill...hopefully I can find something else that will work as well without the side effects.

I was put on Lipitor 10mg 2 weeks ago after my bloodwork from my yearly physical came back that my cholesterol went up again. Levels are HDL 61 LDL 176. After the first week I called my MD to advise that I was having chest pain and muscle pain in my legs and forearm. He said to cut the dose in half which I did last Thursday. Yesterday all of a sudden I had heart flutters the entire day! I am a 43 female who goes to the gym 3 times a week doing 30 minutes of cardio and weights. I eat right and overall I am in great shape except having high cholesterol. My blood pressure is great, had a stress test and echo last year both negative for any problems. I called my doctor today and advise that I was still having fluttering in my chest and that I am stopping the Lipitor. What good is being on a medicine that helps with one problem but then causes others that you may need more medication for???
I have been feeling like crap ever since being put on Lipitor and I believe that it is the medication that is giving me the problems. Last year my MD put me on Zocor and I stopped that after having the muscle pains. I am now hoping that things will get back to normal and I plan on telling my doctor that these "statin' medicines are not for me and there has to be something else.

On 3-25-09 I was started on Avelox for a sinus infection. I took my first pill that day and the second dose when I got up the next AM. I had the normal stomach upset that is normally associated with Avelox but by day 3, things drastically changed. My blood pressure was 168/105, sweating, feeling unattached to my surroundings, dizziness and PANIC. I ended up in the ER due to the panic, uncontrollable crying, feeling that I was dying, blurred vision, elevated heart rate. I felt psychotic! My doctor gave me a shot of Ativan and within 30 minutes, started to feel a little normal, but still had uncontrollable fear. Today is day 4 and am still dealing with the anxiety but have Ativan to take the edge off. I hope this goes away soon. No one should have to go through this trauma. I will never take Avelox again.
