How do you tell what is a side effect and what is normal aging and what is the result of lifestyle? I know without levoxyl I would have nothing because I have no thyroid at all.
Lately I have felt great. My weight is normal and I have enough energy. This didn't happen overnight. I was overweight for quite awhile. At 59 years old I do expect some achey joints and so forth.
But I am totally dependent on levoxyl. I worry if I couldn't get it for some reason I would die.

After 12 weeks of using 2.5 mg per day of Lisinopril I developed meniscus pain and painful hamstring and glute muscles in my right leg. I quit using the drug and am losing my patience waiting for the pain to stop. Are there stats out there that can give me an idea about the length of recovery time? I a 59 years old and have never suffered from knee pain of any kind. Are there any class action suits against Lisinopril manufacturers?

For 59 years I have had familial periodic paralysis. Lately my potassium level has been down. This problem started after taking albuterol for copd.
I take two puffs every 8 hrs .I could not understand why I was getting paralysis as it had tapered off considerably the last 15 years and I have not had paralysis at all for 3 years until the last 4 months. Now I will have to take small amounts of potassium every night but less than when I was younger.
The Albuterol has helped me considerably!

I am in the family with the 86 year old man that committed suicide because of this drug. He was my father and I will never be able to see him again. This drug caused such severe side effects for him that he did not know what he was doing and killed himself leaving his wife of 59 years, 7 children and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had everything to live for and had no effects of depression or other problems until he started taking the medicine. The drug made him sicker instead of better. My family has asked that we received a drug screening from the Medical Examiner to determine the combination of drugs that were in my dad's system at his death. He was also prescribed prednisone, which we have since found out should that the drugs should not have been given together. I would like to take this doctor to task for his incompetence in prescribing an elderly man medication that could cause this result. I am very angry at the physician and will pursue legal actions when we receive the Medical Examiners information. No family should have to suffer the loss that we have had and no experience the void that we have in our lives. My father was a healthy, 86 year old man with a family history of living past the age of 100. We figured he had another 20 years to go. I know that my taking legal action will not bring back my father but I would like to somehow make this drug side effects public knowledge so this DOES NOT happen to another family. This weekend is Father's Day and my only way to talk to my father is standing my his graveside. I should not be doing that. I should be celebrating another Father's Day with him at his home. This drug and his doctor caused his death. DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG....consult your doctor if he even mentions it in a course of treatment. I would like to be able to present evidence to the Food and Drug Administration of the terrible effects of this drug and the combination of drugs that are given with it. My daughter even said she would like to be the one presenting our family story to Congress during hearing concerning removing this drug from the market. That is my goal....this drug should be removed. I have contacted the Food and Drug Administration and suggest that everyone else do the same. If they get enough complaints, they will have to open a dialog on the drug and some of the families will have the opportunity to speak about the effects of the drug on their lives. I will always miss my father and love him dearly. I know that he was not in his right state of mind when he committed suicide and that the drug caused his actions. My mother found him that day in April when she came home from the store. She will never be the same nor will our family. Again, DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG!!!!!

I started taking the generic of Toprol (metaprolol) 3 months ago. I'm on 150mg per day for a rapid heartbeat, I'm 39 years old. It has helped my heart problems but I don't know if the side effects are worth it. I experience major fatigue that may last a week at a time and subside for a few days, aches in my back and neck (which I've learned may also be attributed to the Lipitor that I am also on), and my worse symptom is constant diarrhea. Some days I will run to the BR 15 times in one day. It seems to subside by dinner time, but that is probably because I stay away from food all afternoon. I'm fortunate that I am a stay at home mom I can't imagine having to go to work in this condition!

I am 59 years old Asian male and have gone through six angioplasty and have seven stents in all three arteries in the year 02-03. No heart attack so far. I am taking 10 mg of Lipitor and can not tolerate 20 mg or higher strength because pain in the knee, thigh and leg increases. I tried to reduce my cholesterol by changing food, weight reduction and 40 minutes of tread mill at 5 mph, 5 days a week. I did not get the desired results i.e. keeping LDL below 70.
Since liver makes 80 % of cholesterol, I have to take 10 mg of Lipitor and tolerate the minor side effects. With change in diet, exercise, weight reduction, and 10 mg of Lipitor, I am able to reduce my total cholesterol from 247 to 116, LDL from 164 to 62 and increase HDL from 32 to 42.

OMG. Started taking Avelox and a cough pill at the same time. Thought the shakes were from being tired from not sleeping since I've had a sinus infection and coughing all night. Wondered if it was just in my mind. Went to the doctor. Told me to stop taking the cough pill. Sent me to the hospital for EKG. Called back and wants me to go to a heart specialist a.s.a.p for changes noticed since last EKG. Scared me badly. I'm only 42. Looked this up on the internet. Told pharmacist about problems. He said he never had anyone have any of my symptoms. Said to stop taking Avelox and drink a lot of water to help flush it out. Won't get out of my body for over 24 hours. Don't think our emergency room would have any clue how to help me since it isn't an allergic reaction just a side effect. Evidently most people who had trouble with this horrible drug have survived to write about it which gives me hope that I will too.

Hi all,
Unfortunately, I didn't read all of these comments before I started taking Topamax.
I have migraines for 25 years, and decided to try Topamax.
Week 1-25mg, Diet coke tasted strange. Tingling. Tiredness. Forgetfulness. Can't think clearly. Hard to spell. Or do any task.
Week 2-50mg...a zombie-all of the above and more. Couldn't remember how to get back to my house..and I was just 5 streets away.
I stopped taking Topamax 2 days ago.
I feel much better.
Plz beware.
Having migraines for so many years (i am 38 now) I learned how to control them and Imitrex does work for me.
If I need to choose between having migraines 3-4 times a week and the side affects of Topamax-I choose migraines.

I have only taken 2 Fosamax pills (once a week) and after taking the second one, I have experienced severe lower back, right leg, left foot pain. Can anyone tell me how long they experienced this side effect. I will not be taking Fosamax anymore, needless to say. Before taking this medication, I was fine. I am sleep deprived because the pain is worse when lying down.

I have been taking Levothyroxin (Synthroid generic) for about 5 months. I started on a low dosage and have been taking 75 mcg (which turned out to be the right dosage. I turned 59 years old in July and I had been gaining weight.Nothing startling--a few pounds a years that added up to about 50 pounds over time..I am losing weight now. The side effect I am most concerned about is a an inarticulateness I seem to have developed since I started taking the medication.I can't sepak civilly to my son who also turned 20 in July. I just want to scream at him all the time.
Is this a side effect of Synthroid? I don't think I have been losing my hair, fortunately, but it is dry and brittle...

I am 48 yrs old and have been on Advair 500/50 for a little over three years now and although it helped my asthma dramatically in the beginning, everyone around me has commented on the crazy mood swings I have been experiencing for the past two years. I have also developed a very persistent case of thrush in my mouth/throat that never seems to go away-the doctor keeps on asking me if I rinse my mouth and it's starting to get annoying because I'd be an idiot not to rinse out my mouth-I even gargle, but the thrush keeps coming back! Also,my throat always feel tight-I frequently feel like I'm choking and I get hoarseness that interferes with the important thing like reading a book to my son. Recently, I have started bruising very easily. Everytime I mention all these things to my doctor she says that I should stay on the Advair and disregards my complaints about the side-effects. I would really like to stop using it, but I stopped once for Three weeks and I had a really bad bout of tightness in my chest and shortness of breath-any suggestions on how to get off it and what I can do instead?? I forgot to mention that I have gained weight and even dieting won't get the weight off-I am very active and exercise, but the weight stays.

I was given an injection of Kenalog one week ago. By the time I got home I felt extreme fatigue and was forced to go to bed. I had not been nervous about the injection & it was pretty much pain-free. The injection was given for two herniated discs & sciatica. Within the next couple of days new symptoms appeared -- fast & irregular heartbeat, headaches and excessive urination. I also feel unusually anxious. I suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome and wonder if that condition had something to do my onging symptoms. My medical knowledge is very limited, but I wonder if this medication could cause changes in my adrenal function. When I saw my orthopaedic physician assistant on Friday I mentioned the symptoms and she didn't seem concerned & said maybe I had been retaining fluid --- which is not the case. I am 59 years old & I know my body! Although I have been eating well, I have lost three pounds. I am so confused. I have also had sweats, similar to hot flashes. Do you all think these symptoms could be related to the injection. I have a call in to the pain management doctor who did the injection, but I guess he will just blow me off, too. This is awful. He wants me to have another injection next Monday. Right now, I do not think I am going to follow though -- but will just deal with the pain the best I can. !

I'm 59 years old. I just started taking levaquin (500, 1 daily) for a sinus infection that 3 other courses of antibiotics had not killed. The first night, I had very vivid dreams and awoke with severe pain in the calf of my left leg. Last night, I got almost no sleep. Every time I started to drift off, I would suddenly "jolt" awake. When I did sleep, I had nightmares. Then I awoke with severe pain in the calf of my right leg. Unfortunately, I took another pill before I decided to do a search and discovered this site.

I have been on Fosamax about six years. I am 59 years old.
I have developed very bad digestive problems, acid reflux,
GERD, and also have lost two teeth in my upper jaw during the past
two years. I was also in the hospital because I swallowed some acid into my lung which then caused a mild case of pneumonia. I have decided to stop taking this awful drug.

My doctor put me on Lisinopril/HTCZ at a rate of 1/2 tab a day, I went from good energy to total listlessness and after a week developed a bad deep flu like cough. I'm 59 years old Male and in pretty good health. My blood preasure was 140/90. I took this drug for about 2 weeks and went steadily down hill, I stop taking Lisinopril and slowly(about a month) Regained my energy in one day after being off the stuff. But the cough is very tough to shake, it's been off the stuff for about a month and am just now begining to lose the cough, It usually hits the worst while trying to eat dinner. Also while taking this drug, I would just bend down to pick up something off the floor and would come up panting as if I had run a mile. I was so happy to find this forum, But don't understand why any doctor would continue to precribe this stuff to anybody, My doctor is primarily a baby doctor, Boy do I feel sorry for those women, I'm sure if I said anything to the doctor he would think I'm nuts....

I am not sure which of my medicine is causing side affects, so I was checking this site to see what other people had to say. In the last four years I have had face pressure off and on, shoulder, neck and back aches--now my legs in the last two weeks have started to ache bad. I am on levothyroxine0.05mg once a day, paxil 12.5 mg, adavant.05mg, and 1/2 atenol daily. I take on an average of 6--200 mgs of ibpropan daily also. Maybe it is a combination of the drugs. Had sinus surgery in 2000 and have had terrible ringing in my ears since then, with pain in my face from a damaged nerve from surgery. I am 59 years old and until 2000 have never been sick with anything only a common cold now and then. HELP!!!! Thanks Gloria

I took Levaquin for 10 days and then 15 days for prostatitis. (was prescribed 21 days worth) I started getting muscle and tendon pain after 13 days of 2nd course of tx. I was also taking ibuprofin, which disguised some of the symptoms. Weekend before last, I did a lot of walking (5-6 miles a day)
since then my ankles have been very sore and swollen. Almost as they are badly sprained. The rest of my muscles are still somewhat sore and weak feeling. I have always been very active physically, but for the last few weeks have been very dibilatated. My prostatitis seems to have alleviated,
I am 59 years old.

I am a male, 59 years old, looking much younger than my age and in good physical shape, very active in sports, travel, etc. I have been on Zocor for just over amonth now and have suddenly started to put on weight, although I have not altered my diet. Could it be Zocor? I simply don't see what else it could be.
