I am 74 years old and have been taking 50 mg dose of Amitriptyline for 12 years and I take it two hours before bedtime.
Recently it has been causing sleep apnea. I am now taking 25 mgs, two hours before bedtime at 8pm and need to know what time should I take the second dose in the am? I took it this morning around 9am and was sleepy most of the morning. I am guessing this has to do with how long between the dose the night before and the am dose was taking.
How long between these 25 mg doses should I take them.
Thanks Much. D.

One week ago tomorrow, I was diagnosed with BOTH a yeast infection (my first) and a bacterial infection. The doctor gave me the generic forms of Diflucan and Flagyl. I think this medication is interfering with my sleeping. I've been taking 500 mg 2x/day for a vaginal infection and I can't sleep at night. I take the pill between 7-9am and 7-9pm and since I've started, the only night I was able to get any sleep was the night I took some Benadryl. To boot, I'm STILL having problems with vaginal itching and I don't think the Metronidazole has helped my infection at all. ARGH!!!

I had a very small insect bite looking spot on my leg on Wednesday afternoon. Since it had pain in it and I have had a staph infection before, I immediately went to the doctor. The doctor prescribed Bactrim and one other antibiotic. I took a Bactrim pill at 10 pm and by midnight I was up with stomach cramps and chills so intense that the shaking made my muscles sore. My eyes were extremely bloodshot. The only way to fight off the cold feeling and the chills was to get in a warm bath. After my bath, I stayed up for 3 hours because of the cramps. I was able to get a few hours of sleep. At 9am I made my way down stairs- all the way feeling as if I was going to pass out. When I finally made it down the stairs, I threw up. By this time I was also running a low grade fever and had begun spotting. I immediately went the the emergency room. Upon arrival, I threw up again. I asked the nurse to please let me lay down. After 4 hours, an IV, pain meds for my throbbing headache, nausea meds, and IV antibiotics, my doctor drained the spot on my leg. He told me KEEP TAKING BOTH ANTIBIOTICS and sent me home. He said that if I had more symptoms to stop taking the Bactrim. I did not follow his instructions. I came home and luckily one of my friends is in pharmacy school.... she sent me this site and told me what she thought about what happened. I am so happy that I did not take the medicine again. It is scary that this drug did this to me after only ONE pill. It is scary to think what could have happened if I had continued the meds. This drug is very dangerous and everyone should be aware of the potential hazard to their health before taking it.

I have been feeling most of these symptoms for a while but thought it was just in my head or that I was going through early menopause but I am only 38.
Immediately I gained weight in my stomach area which made me mad but I dealt with it. I have have really long periods where I used to have a 3 day period. Now I have anxiety and mood swings where I just feel like being mean. I hate how I am to my husband, mom and kids. I feel like I can't concentrate and I can't remember a conversation that I had 2 days ago. I really feel like I was deceived of all these bad side effects. I just called to have this bitch removed and the nurse said she has never heard of any bad side effects. I guess I am one of the unlucky ones. I also exercise and diet constantly and can't seem to lose the extra weight I put on. It's so frustrating when I try so hard. Now I am a little nervous about getting it taken out. I plan on taking a xanex b.c it hurt so bad when I had it put in! I also am a little nervous about what birth control to use next. I don't want to deal with hormones again. It's not worth it. Also the sex drive is very low for me. I really wish I would have seen this blog ahead of time. I would NEVER of had the mirena inserted and I wouldn't have wasted a year and a half of my life on being miserable!! I'm getting this removed 9am on Friday!!

I had a really bad case of strep throat because I thought it was a cold or flu and didn't go to the doctor for 12 days...but then I finally went because my throat hurt so bad and my glands were so swollen. I don't have insurance and maybe that's why the doctor gave me ten free samples of avelox right off the bat instead of just prescribing penicillin. I took the first dose and I would say my sore throat and swelling were 80% gone within the FIRST THIRTY MINUTES. So, definitely this is a very strong antibiotic compared to the Z-pak (zithromax) I've taken for bronchitis before. It's now day 4 and I have to say I am reluctant to take it for 10 days!! I haven't had any severe reactions, just bloating, diarrhea, dizziness, and some tiredness. And pretty strong nausea for the first hour, so I have been pushing the dose time from 9am to gradually later at night where I am not so sensitive. I am 33yrs old, healthy and eat well usually so I think my strong constitution has kept me from some of the more severe reactions I see above. HOWEVER, I do feel that it's a bit too strong! Surely there must be some way to lower the dosage of this antibiotic? I feel that it's worked well, but it just is too much like a SLEDGEHAMMER!

I am 30 years old and have been put on Depo Lupron after a laproscopy to help with endometriosis. I am 2 months into a 6 month course (one shot every 3 months) of Depo Lupron and my life has drastically changed. I started feeling life altering hot flashes and night sweats two days after the first shot and nearly drown myself in sweat 24 hours a day. I experienced a little postpardum depression after giving birth 6 years ago but have found myself sunk into a sinking hole of depression and anger like I've never felt before. I bawl at McDonald's commercials and become enraged if the dishwasher isn't loaded properly! I am ecstatic one minute and severely depressed the next. I have even had thought of suicide since being on this shot. I am normally a very outgoing, athletic, cheerful, happy person - but since taking this shot, I have become a stanger in my own head. I tell my family all the time that I need to "go stick my head in the freezer" to cool off because of the horrific hot flashes. I have to carry a handheld fan with me 24 hours a day and sleep with ice packs to keep cool. Since the shot started 2 months ago, I have lost all sexual drive, am thoroughly exhausted by 9am and find myself crying at my desk at work by late afternoon because I am so tired. My family thinks I am going crazy and I've never fought more with my husband. My daughter has gone to grandma's for awhile because I'm just so tired and irritable that I feel like an awful mother. Migraines have also come full circle since the onset of the shot as well as blurred vision and shaky hands. I'm a little achy throughout the as well. I know that everyone responds to medication differently, but I'm finding a lot of people with the same side effects as myself and have to wonder why the doctors don't warn patients about these types of problems before prescribing medications such as Depo Lupron. I don't think I'll be going back for the second shot. Could it get any worse?

Predisone is the only other alternative for antibiotic therapy. Predisone has been known for years to have a lot of side effects. Always keep in mind you must be weined from the medicine never stop without consulting your doctor and if your doctor gives you a dose that does not require weining please also consult your pharmacist and the pharmacist really knows the drug compared to your doctor. Doctor's typically only know what the medication reps tell them whereas the pharmacist has extensive medication knowledge and will also know your current medication conflicts. Be sure that your doctor is aware of all medications including all herbal supplements and other the counter medications. With predisone you really have to out weigh the symptoms verses the side effects then determine are they really worth going through to eleviate your symptons. Keep in mind Predisone is a steroid a very potent anti-flammitory and reduces the inflammation so the infection can heal.

Wow, I wish I had known all of this before I decided to get Mirena. A few of my friends have had it and had no problems. Actually one got pregnant on it. I recently gave birth to my second daughter via c-section and I decided to get this device. The doctor said that it was fine to get it put in 4 weeks post partum even though usually it takes 6 weeks to fully recover from a cesarean. So I put my faith in him and got it put in which was painful. He had to open my cervix which felt like I was giving birth. My cervix was tight obviously because I never dilated due to having a planned c-section. After it was put in I was dizzy, nauseas, and cramped like crazy. I also bleed for 3 weeks after. The day of my follow up, he did an ultrasound to make sure it was still in place. But he could not find it...at this point I start to worry. He sent me to the hospital for x-rays and determined that it had gone through my uterus. At first he thought it came out of my c-section incision. I immediately remembered thinking it was too early to get this put in. However after the surgery we found this to be different. So he tells me that I need laparoscopic surgery to remove it. Sounded like a simple one day surgery but that is not how it ended up. I go in for the operation on Monday the 25th, 2 months after just giving birth to my second child at the same hospital. Didn't think I would be back there so soon. So I go under at 9am and wake up at 3pm. Groggy and trying to awaken from all the meds I here the nurse tell me that I am staying overnight. I ask why and she tells me that they had to open me up. At this point I am in shock but too tired to ask questions. Later on they put me in a room on the labor and delivery floor and the doctor tells me that they had to make another incision going vertically under my belly button down to my c-section incision. So at this point I feel like Frankenstein with all these scars. Well, he explains that when he pulled out the IUD I began to bleed and he could not stop it by laparoscopy so he had to open me up. Apparently I lost a lot of blood and almost needed a blood transfusion. He also said that if he could not stop the bleeding he would have had to take out my whole uterus. Which is some scary shit!! Luckily that was not the case. However I still have a four inch scar and recover from. He also said that my uterus was so soft that the stitches weren't staying in place thats why he had to open me up and try another way to stop the bleeding. But that is my story and I would never put another foreign object up there ever again!! I will never recommend Mirena to anyone! I want to find out how to proceed in filing a lawsuit because this has caused a lot of traumatic pain as well as physical. I also have to spend time away from work. If anyone knows anything please let me know!

I was prescribed this medication for an ear infection. For the first five days, I had severe headaches, dry mouth, and trouble sleeping. On the sixth day, I developed a fever of 101 and had chills bad enough to cause my teeth to chatter. I was also extremely tired and my whole body ached. I though I was coming down with the flu. I went to bed that night, but continued to suffer from chills and was unable to rest comfortably. I awoke at 4am on the seventh day and noticed I had hives all over my face and neck. By 9am, I had red blotches on my chest, stomach, back, and arms. I called the doctor and was told it was probably an allergic reaction and I should come in for a check-up. After seeing the doctor, he said this medication often has a "delayed allergic reaction" that usually shows up around 7 days after beginning the dosage. He told me stop taking the meds and that the rash would probably get worse before it gets better. That's true. It is now day 8 (late) and I have red blotches everywhere on my body and they itch a lot. I will make sure I remember to never take this medicine again. It didn't help with the ear infection either, but nothing has so far. This was the 4th different antibiotic tried.

I took my first dose at 9am this morning. By noon, my hands were shaking. By 1pm I felt like my skin was crawling and I was completely unable to think clearly. It is now 4pm and I just located this website. I am finally able to type fairly well and I might be able to drive home today. Fed the rest of the medication to the disposal. Other side effects include severe diarrea, bloated stomach. Fun medication

Wow, thank you all for your postings. I just wished I had found this before I had Mirena put in. I had it placed in Feb 2009, it's been exactly 5 months. I have been extremely tired and agitated. I didn't really associate this with the Mirena until reading the other posts. My hair comes out by the handful (with root attached), I never have solid stools, I have gained about 10 pounds even though I have been trying to lose weight through a diet and exercise program. All the weight is in my stomach and people keep asking me if I'm pregnant. I started to wonder if I could be seeing as I was crying all the time, extremely moody, and that I look at least 4 or 5 months pregnant. All pregnancy tests have come back negative. I got this put in the day before my fiance and I got engaged ( not knowing at the time) and last week we were about to call of the wedding because of my emotional state and constant conflicts. I have to wonder how much of this is caused by the Mirena. I have already made an appointment to talk to my doctor after reading what all these other women have been through. It's just so tough because with any type of birth control their are side effects so I don't want to make it out to be like this is the worst thing ever, it may be exactly what someone is looking for, but just be informed that there are some side effects because I like a lot of other women on this post was lead to believe that there were no side effects or very little side effects.
