I am 19 years old and have had Mirena since May 2008. I really struggled with the cramps and continuous bleeding for the first two months. My menstrual periods became less and less until I hit my year mark of having it. NOW, if I'm around a girl friend for more than a few days, I automatically get my menstrual period the same day she will and it will last for 8 to 10 days. I thought I wasn't supposed to get my period after a year of having Mirena?!! I've really enjoyed not having to worry about taking a pill every day or putting a new patch on every week and hope it stays on.... BUT, a year and a half of constant acne, the freshman 15, the anxiety, the decreased sex drive, the abdominal cramps are really starting to take a toll on my mental health!
I recently have developed new symptoms of excessive sweating in my armpits, loss of interest in doing things I used to love, joint pain, thin peeling nails, dry skin, cold intolerance. I mentioned these things to my mother the other day on the phone and she reminded me that thyroid problems are very congenital in our family. I have a doctor appt in 2 days for a blood test. If all goes well, I may just have to say goodbye to Mirena. Its been 100% effective for me in the past year and a half, but I can't handle the excess fine-print bullshit that comes with it!!!

The pill form isn't all that bad- just take one before bed time and soon after you wake up you'll go. The suppositories on the other hand.... WOAH! I tried one and 5 minutes later not only was my rectum burning but I had abdominal cramps something fierce!!!! I had to take Pepto to ease the pain!

I am very thankful for all this input. I did not feel any pain at all with the insertion or removal of Mirena, but I certainly did deal with the abdominal cramps (they went away after a few weeks), fatigue and weight gain. I lost just about all my baby weight gain so so soon after delivery and was 115 lbs. 2 months later, I had Mirena inserted, and quickly shot up to 125 lbs. Not horrible, but on my frame noticeable especially since I watch what I eat and work out/run a lot. I had Mirena removed on 3/31. I have since lost almost 5 lbs doing nothing different! I got a heavy period just two days later. I then got *my groove* back on in the bedroom in what seems like (um the whole time I was on Mirena?)

Now I am terrified I am pregnant. Does anyone know what happens if you get pregnant so soon?

I was so glad to find this website. I was feeling terrible after having the Mirena in for around a year. I started looking online when I woke up several days in a row feeling so bad and nauseous that I was worried I was pregnant!

I was very fatigued, achy, having trouble sleeping, having strange acne breakouts on weird parts of my body, terrible abdominal cramps - yet no period, bowel problems, VERY slow to heal my sports strains/sprains, nauseous, random headaches (and I have NEVER been prone to headaches), odor, crotch drop, hair loss, forgetfulness, BAD mood swings/depression, dehydration. I looked and felt like I had aged 10 years...All this time I was blaming it on having a two kids, getting older, stress, etc.

Well, thanks to this site, I had my Mirena removed last week. I had no ill side effects from the removal and had a normal period for the first time in about 6 months. I felt incredibly better in a few days! I have more energy, I have slept much more soundly - the dark circles around my eyes are diminishing and I look much better. My routine bumps and bruises from soccer and taekwondo are healing at a normal pace and I don't feel achy all the time. Basically I feel great, and I hadn't for a long time. I feel like myself again.

If you have ANY of these symptoms that everyone is talking about...don't write it off to anything else, and don't let your doctor tell you it's due to other things. You know your body and what is normal. If you are wondering at all why you feel bad - get the thing OUT and do it NOW! (My GYN was very understanding and compliant to my request, but still insisted that my symptoms were most likely due to stress than anything else). At least you will have peace-of-mind knowing that you eliminated the IUD as a cause of your symptoms. You can always have a new one put in if you find that not to be the case.

I hope this site is correct regarding the class action lawsuit, because I am seriously considering joining it. Mom's have it hard enough without this IUD complicating their lives further!

I am so miserable. I had the mirena inserted at 6 wks post partem in June 2008. My doctor told me I'd bleed for about 3-6 months initially until my body "stabilized". I spotted on and off for 4 mths, and had my first yeast infection ever within that 4 months! I also began to become very moody, weepy, tired all the time, experienced terrible constipation, bad headaches and had the most irritating acne. I even went to my regular doc about being tired to get my thyroid levels checked and they were fine. I didn't even think that it could be the mirena b/c I didn't do the research on it before hand! I wish I would have! I have also experienced another yeast infection-and think I may have another now! That makes 3 since I've had this thing-in a 6 month period! Then in early October I began having hives on my extremities, and since have it on and off all over-no change in soaps or lotions or anything like that. I have no reason for them...except for the mirena. This past week I've had terrible abdominal cramps and painful intercourse. So I went to check for the placement of my strings...and...they're not hanging out anymore! So I will definately be calling my OB in the morning and having this thing removed...hopefully no damage has occured!

I started using the NuvaRing about 14 months ago to help with acne, cramping, and PCOS. I have always enjoyed the convenience of the Ring, as has my husband. No worries about a missed pill and the scheduled insertion and removal have always been key for us. The first few months I didn't notice any changes--good or bad--and I had a noticeable decrease in ovarian cysts right away. But over the last several months, I have noticed several changes in my body that I think may be related to the NuvaRing. I have gained 21 pounds since January.

I eat very healthy, and am mild active. However, nothing changed in January to cause such consistent weight gain. I get terrible and painful acne while I have the ring in, but it disappears within days once I remove the ring. While my face clearing up is a relief, I spend days feeling terrible and VERY moody. My poor husband doesn't know how to handle me those days. So now, in place of mood swings from PMS, I get them even worse during my period while the ring is out. I also have a very decreased sex drive, and experience pain from intercourse during and after. I have abdominal cramps most days that are similar to menstrual cramps, and extend into my digestive system, causing nausea and stomach cramping.

I just started Ocella (generic form of Yaz) two days ago, in hopes of decreasing these symptoms. I did warn my husband that he may be doing a lot more condom shopping in the coming weeks if I don't notice improvement. He says he actually welcomes using a condom if it eliminates all of the moodiness and crying over my weight and acne, even if it isn't as pregnancy-proof as BC.

Best of luck to all of you ladies!

If you want to punish yourself, feel hallow inside, get fat, hate sex, get horrible headaches, have an itchy vagina, and feel like throwing up all time, then I would recommend nuvaring to you.

I took nuvaring for 10 months. During this time I got headaches all the time, increasing in severity and frequency the longer I was on nuvaring; esp. during the week I took it out to have a period. I had very angry mood swings and felt apathetic towards everything. I have been depressed before, so I figured it was just me and it would pass soon, it did not.
I also ate out of boredom. I wasn't hungry per se, I just felt like eating all the time, so I did and I gained about 15 lbs. I was on the same regular exercise routine, and I still gained the weight.
I felt nauseated at the beginning and end of every cycle. I had zero sex drive, it hurt to even have sex most of the time. My husband could feel it inside of me the months it would not stay in place. Some months I could hardly feel the ring, and other months I would have to reinsert it almost every day. I ended up taking the ring out during sex and putting it back in afterwards. This helped some, but I still had no interest. I had abdominal cramps ALL day EVERY day reguardless.
I had vaginal itching and irritation as time progressed, and mild vaginal dryness which caused us to use a lubricant during sex.
It does not get better, it gets worse over time.
I have been off nuva ring for 3 weeks and I feel so much better! I'm happy and interested in things again. I don't have as many headaches and I don't have intense abdominal/low back pain any more. Sex drive is back, and it feels normal now. I don't feel nauseated or as angry. I don't feel the need to mindlessly eat. My nipples have been very sore for a week now, though and I have not yet gotten my period. I have all the signs of it: normal moodiness, mild cramping, really really light (like pastel) pink spotting, so I am just waiting for it come. Hopefully I will be regular, but as I have been reading on here, that's not always the case.
The ONLY benefit from nuvaring was a shorter and shorter period.
I will never use nuvaring again.

I guess we are all in the same boat.

I do not like any type of BC. They all have serious side effects.

The symptoms I have notice are:

~spotting during the off weeks of my period
~abdominal cramps
~infections (yeast/fungus)
~burning when urinating
~burning and itching all the way to my behind (its even painful when I sit on the toilet)
~cramping in my uterus during intercourse (the doctor just said that his private is touching my uterus)...that seems really weird
~muscle cramping in my calf and chin(I have cramps in the middle of the night)
~nausea (i have taken numerous pregnancy test, just to make sure)
~increase in appetite
~bloating

These are the symptoms I have notice and I am not to happy about. Every method will have its own side effects.

So, as I continue with the ring, I just keep an eye on the symptoms. If they get any worst, I will continue to contact my doctor or consider another method.

The things we go through....

I had my mirena taken out on oct. 15 (placed on aug. 8) and my doc, like many of the other posts, behaved as though i were simply a hysterical female and said that NO ONE complains about it. I told him that i'd had lower back pain, loss of sex drive, fatigue, swollen breasts, nausea, stomach poking out, terrible smell, weight gain, mood swings, headache, achy feet, numbness on my face and dizziness. here's what's so sad, we are all so brainwashed by the current state of medical care in our country that we don't even think it's strange to be ignored for a flurry of symptoms. i mean, if he was so convinced that it WASN'T the mirena causing the problems, then why didn't he address the problems?! what's worse, it took me several days to even realize that my symptoms had been completely ignored! anyway, i'm still having the back pain and my cervix was sore when having sex the other day. i'm having weird abdominal cramps and am still very tired and moody and eating us out of house and home. i am hoping this will stop by thanksgiving.

I researched Mirena extensively prior to getting it a month ago. My doctor recommended it because I have Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Which can cause depression, abdominal cramps due to ovarian cysts, months without periods only to have a long period, weight gain especially in the mid section, hair loss on the head, extra hair everywhere else and difficulty getting pregnant. I had just had a period that lasted over 2 weeks.

The day I got the IUD fitted, the lining of my uterus was already thin. I spotted for 2 days and it was over. The pain was like nothing I had ever experienced. I have never had children, but my fiance and I want to hold off on having kids for a while. This month, I have noticed that my breasts are tender and my fiance noticed that they are bigger.

I already have issues with weight and after reading the blogs before I decided that I would join Weight Watchers. Because I'm keeping track of my food intake, I have lost weight, but I've noticed that my chocolate cravings are more frequent and more severe. I also decided that exercise would be in order. The first week, before I added the exercise, I didn't have a sex drive. Since I've been hitting the pavement running, I have been stressing my fiance out! I believe the exercise also helps with the mood swings and depression.

I know that I still have the ovarian cysts because I have the abdominal pains. Many women complain about this, but for women with PCOS, it's a way of life.

I came on to blog about my short experience with Mirena because it's been a month and I got my first Mirena period today. It feels like a normal, crampy, bloated, painful period. I just hope that it will be over soon.

I'm so glad I found this website! I'm 25 and I've been using Nuvaring for 3 years (Ortho-tricyclen and low dose for 5 years before that), and I also found that the bad side effects of Nuvaring came on gradually. I've been experiencing nausea, headaches, abdominal cramps and diarrhea, anxiety and depression, irritability, fatigue, and low to no sex drive. Because they all came on gradually, I really didn't attribute them to Nuvaring. This past month, I accidentally left the ring out for 10 days instead of 7 to have my period, and since I've put the ring back in, I've been VERY nauseous (this has lasted for 4 days so far). After reading all of your comments, I'm going to remove it for good. I just hope the nausea goes away soon.

I have been on 500mg of Levaquin for 8 out of a 10 day course. I can barely hold my head up, have a headache and severe neck and muscle pain. My stomach is so queezy and I have been unable to get a full night sleep.

Anyone experiencing the same?
I am afraid to take the last 2 days of the course.

basically, this was my experience with the paragard:
1. Dec 2004 - Paragard iud was placed post-partum after my 2nd daughter was born. i was breast-feeding, and had no noticeable symptoms until Nov 2005.
2. Nov 2005 - had my first period since my daughter was born. it was heavy and crampy, but i thought "i haven't had a period in 2 years, so this is the price i pay..."
3. Each period hence was heavy, long at 6-7 days, and cramps were intense. again, i just decided that i could manage.
By the end of 2006, my periods were so bad that my husband and i decided i had to see the doctor.
4. Jan 2007 - saw the doctor about removing the copper IUD. she said that the paragard should not be causing such bad symptoms, and since i was did not want to get pregnant, she decided we should try to control the symptoms with birth control pills and Prometrium. I did not want to try Prometrium since I was unsure of how I would react to the hormone. she believed that i might be suffering from severe pms, called PMDD. note that i loved and trusted this doctor - i had some complications during my 2 pregnancy, and some problems post-delivery, and she was attentive, personable, and caring. i was very comfortable and trusting, so i listened to her recommendations. i tried yaz, yasmin, and 2 other pills over the next 3-5 months, but was extremely nauseous and sick with all of them (plus break-thru bleeding).
5. Feb - September 2007: i started having pre-period symptoms of nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea, abdominal cramps, severe fatigue. the first 2 months that i had these symptoms, they were so bad that i believed that i had an intestinal virus - same cramping, throwing up, and bad diarrhea, plus this was BEFORE my period. I then made the association between my symptoms, and the fact that they occurred 3-5 days before my period, and then they would subside about 3 days after my period started. my periods were still long with heavy bleeding.
6. September 2007 - was having same symptoms, but started 7-10 days before my period, and they were so bad that my husband had to take off from work to take care of our 2 girls each month (i stay home with them). i went back to the doctor during September, and was told to modify my diet (no white flour, sugar, low fat, high protein, lots of water) and to try some vitamin supplements since i didn't want more medications. she again recommended taking 100 mg Prometrium to help ease the symptoms. I asked to remove the IUD, again, and she said that "before she took out something that expensive, she wanted to make sure that something else was not wrong" - I was shocked at her statement, but agian I liked her and trusted her, so i went along for the sonogram.
7. October 2007 - In the meantime, I was desperate, so i took the vitamins and Prometrium, which sent me into what i can describe only as a psychotic episode. i had severe emotional outbursts, i was irrationally angry and irritable, and had absolutely zero patience. i am usually a smart girl, and in my normal "mental state" would have associated that the Prometrium had caused this severe reaction, but I was no where close to my normal state of mind, and i just thought that my physical symptoms were now affecting me mentally.
8. LAte Oct 2007 - BY this time I am so down and really ready to get my life back. I am still sick with nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, severe abdominal cramps, severe fatigue, and now my abdomen stays sore and tender through the whole month. FINALLY the doctor calls with the ultrasound results. she said that there were 2 small ovarian cysts - and i was relieved - i thought that FINALLY, we were getting somewhere - but in the next sentence she said that she didn;t think that they were responsible for my symptoms. i was deflated - and at such a loss of words. i listened to her tell me how she thought that i had IBS, and that she was going to refer me to a GI doctor. i know that IBS is a catch-all category of symptoms that some doctors throw on people they can;t diagnose. and remember, i was just a few days out from recovering from 1) having a severe personality reaction to a drug, and didn't know it was because of the Prometrium - i thought i was going mad, and 2) i was just getting over being sick before my period - AGAIN.
I finally called her back a few hours later and left a message with the nurse "since she doesn;t think that the cysts are causing the symptoms, could we please remove the copper IUD?" i never got a reply.
I called my niece who is an RN at a respected women's health center in NC and cried a lot and told her what was going on. she got me an appointment with a doctor there for mid nov 2007.
10. Mid Nov 2007 - tell the NC doctor my medical history, and she says "we need to get that IUD out". in less than 30seconds it is gone with minimal discomfort, 25% of the abdominal soreness and tenderness is gone within 24 hours of removal, and completely gone within a week. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME IN MONTHS THAT MY TUMMY WAS NOT TENDER OR SORE!!!
i have a follow-up appointment for mid Jan 2008 with the NC doctor and possible placement of the Mirena
11. Nov 29, 2007 - have my first period in over a year where i am not sick etc - it is heavy and a bit crampy, but is shorter in duration.
12. mid dec 2007 - i start to suspect i may be pregnant, but think that we have been cautious, and my period is probably going to be irregular with all of the crap that has gone on
13. jan 5 2008 - yep - i'm pregnant!! but that was ok - we wanted another anyway.
14. jan 7, 2008 - catch the respiratory flu that has been going around and stay VERY sick for 4 weeks, and i just know that something is unusual - i can't eat i am so sick and am so weak that i shake whe i stand up - call a new local OB doctor and see them.
15. jan 30, 2008 - have miscarried the pregnancy
16. April 2008 - the new ob doctor places a mirena
17. first of may 2008 - my husband is asking if i feel ok, that he has seen similar but much less severe symptoms in my mood as when i was on the Prometrium. i have never had acne this severe on my face, neck and back - it actually hurts and i have some scarring even though i have not picked at it.
By the way, my new local OB told me that HE WILL NOT PLACE PARAGARD COPPER IUDS FOR HIS PATIENTS BECAUSE THEY WORK BY CAUSING INFLAMMATION IN THE UTERUS.
however, he also said that i shouldn't have any issues with the mirena, and now i am starting to wonder if i am going slightly mad...
i want my life back...
i now realize that there is a side effect to EVERYTHING that you put in your body...
i am terrified of getting pregnant right now even though a few months ago i was excited about this wonderful possibility...
i am now talking to a counselor to try to work out the events of this past year+ so i can move on...
i feel like my voice was NOT heard or even acknowledged...
the reality is that WE are ultimately responsible for our own well-being, both physical and mental, and that doctors do treat with preconceived notions about the way health should be and how medications and devices should work...they listen to pharmaceutical reps and not their patients...
i don;t know what to do about birth control now...i suspect the mirena is making me feel this way, but i am terrified of getting pregnant, i can't take birth control pills, and am hesitant to put any thing else in my body that is a chemical...however, i have no libido anymore (my poor wonderful husband) and i use to enjoy the closeness and intimacy of being with my husband...
i don't know how this affects your decision about the copper iud, but i just caution about 1) be careful with sex after the mirena is removed and 2) be mindful of anything that we eat or place in our body.
i do know that i could not find any other information from women who experienced my symptoms, but i find it very difficult to believe that i am the only one who experienced this.
lots of luck, and thank you for sharing your experience with the posting site! it has helped me make an informed decision about removing the mirena, and i hope that the information here will help you make an informed decision about the copper iud.

I made my appointment today to have my Mirena taken out in 2 days.
I have had similar symptoms, low libido, hair loss, and weight gain.
I have been on Weight Watchers since Jan. the same time I got my Mirena inserted and I am at the same weight. I am so frustrated with the weight and the other symptoms I just want it out.
But I did like not having to take a pill everyday. Is anyone considering having the Copper T inserted? It releases no hormones.
Just wondering.

Some of you have even mentioned some things you can just buy off the pharmacy shelf. Remember, even those Flintstone's vitamins are drugs too. I picked just a couple of common medications that people may get for themselves or their kids. I know Amoxicillin is a prescription but I am sure it is very commonly used.

Tylenol- Bloody or black, tarry stools; bloody or cloudy urine; fever with or without chills (not present before treatment and not caused by the condition being treated); pain in lower back and/or side (severe and/or sharp); pinpoint red spots on skin; skin rash, hives, or itching; sores, ulcers, or white spots on lips or in mouth; sore throat (not present before treatment and not caused by the condition being treated); sudden decrease in amount of urine; unusual bleeding or bruising; unusual tiredness or weakness. Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); dark urine or pale stools; unusual fatigue; yellowing of the skin or eyes.

Ibuprofen/Motrin/Advil - Nausea, epigastric pain, heartburn, diarrhea, abdominal distress, nausea and vomiting, indigestion, constipation, abdominal cramps or pain, Dizziness, headache, nervousness, Depression, insomnia, confusion, emotional liability, somnolence, aseptic meningitis with fever and coma, Paresthesias, hallucinations, Syndrome of abdominal pain, fever, chills, nausea and vomiting

Amoxicillin - Reversible hyperactivity, agitation, anxiety, insomnia, confusion, convulsions, behavioral changes, and/or dizziness have been reported rarely. Dizziness, fatigue; insomnia; reversible hyperactivity, Urticaria; maculopapular to exfoliative dermatitis; vesicular eruptions; erythema multiforme; skin rashes, itchy eyes, glossitis; stomatitis; sore or dry mouth or tongue; black “hairy” tongue; abnormal taste sensation; laryngospasm; laryngeal edema. anorexia; nausea; vomiting; abdominal pain or cramps; epigastric distress; diarrhea or bloody diarrhea; rectal bleeding; flatulence; enterocolitis

I went on Prednisone for only 3 days as treatment to a bad allergic reaction to antibiotics. I ended up in the ER for treatment of the allergic reaction and they gave me a pred IV. They put me on 80 mg tablets, which I was supposed to take for 5 days, but there was no tapering off called for by the doc. I only took it for 3 days and started bad abdominal cramps and a bad taste in my mouth. Everything tasted extremely salty--and still does almost a week later. After I was off the drug for a day or two I started bad cramping in my chest, trouble breathing even though they said my lungs were clear, and really bad anxiety, which I've never had before. I freaked out while I was driving and had to pull into a parking lot for over an hour, and still had bad anxiety trying to drive home. I felt like I was drowning and had labored breathing. It's been almost a week and I still have muscle cramping in my chest, but it's starting to subside if I stay calm. I now have headaches and am weak generally, but am starting to come out of it, I think. I don't think the docs wanted to admit that lot of this was due to the pred; it is a serious drug that should not be taken lightly. I never knew there could be such extreme side effects to a drug. I am sorry to hear that many of you have had similar experiences, but it does give me some comfort to know that these effects were real and not due to some psychosomatic problem.

I just had cortisone injected into rear to help break up persistant facial swelling caused by MIXto SX CO2 fractional laser treatment to face four weeks ago.
First signs were needles and pins feeling in cheeks. Later developed abdominal cramps and heartburn. 24 hours later my face is swollen and bright red allover plus upper chest is red. I feel anxious.
Oh well. Hope the cure eventually solves what it was meant to do: Decrease facial swelling.

About eight to ten years ago i had a violent reaction to lactaid. I had taken it numerous time before with no problems and then I woke up one morning - had a bowl of cereal and a lactaid pill - within the hour I was experiencing severe stomach pain along with vomiting and diarrhea. I thought it might have been due to the fact that i had had very little to eat the day before and only a bowl of cereal that morning with the extra strength pill.

the following weekend i was brave enough to try it again with some ice cream at night (this time i had a full stomach from dinner). BIG mistake - this time it was worse - the stomach pain was out of this world (i have a high pain threshold but this had me in the fetal position) and i couldnt leave the toilet and trash can for a few hours. My girlfriend was scared and called one of those nurse hot lines. they told her to coat my stomach with some kaopectate - which seemed to help. I checked the bottle of lactaid - and the expiration date had passed - so i threw it away and swore off of lactaid pills. fortunately they came out with the lactaid milk!

Fast forward to now - never touched the stuff again. well the other day I was out of lactaid milk and my wife (yes the same girlfriend) had picked up some samples of lactaid pills at a trade show - so I guess with the passage of time - I forgot how painful and miserable the other experiences had been - so i took the pill. Nothing happened!

Last night i decide to take another one because i had a craving for ice cream (had been awhile!). I figured it was ok since i had no reaction a week ago. Well sure enough - within the hour I was on the floor in severe stomach pain - followed by vomiting and diarrhea. This time we had kaopectate in the house - so i started taking it - well i just threw it right back up.

This episode lasted about an hour and a half this time. There was a metallic taste in my mouth about the third time i vomited, and the fifth and final time, there was puddle of yellow liquid that came out at the end.

I have tried to take Omeprazole twice - the first time for 9 days - and the second for 4 days with 10 days in between. The first time I took the drug I experienced severe bloating, wind and abdominal cramps and decided to stop. Those symptoms resolved after 4/5 days and I began to feel well and eat normally. Having then had an endoscope where the gastroenterologist found inflammation round the gastric outflow, I was encouraged to go back on Omeprazole. Within 3 days i felt v nauseated and have now stopped again - it seems to take a number of days for the symptoms to settle. Has anyone else suffered this? How long do the side affects last and is there an alternative that won't do this?

I have been taking Phentermine under the direction of my dr. now for about 2 years (on for 6 months off for 6 months). I started at 250 pounds and I'm now at 180. My goal is 135-140.

I can not stress enough how very important it is to DRINK WATER while taking this medication. You CAN DIE if you don't.

I ended up in the hospital for severe dehydration once, and that will never happen again. My hands locked up, my body started shaking, had a fever of 104, etc,.it's not fun.

Side Effects I have experienced:

Rapid Heartbeat
Panic Attacks / Anxiety
Nervousness
Easily Irritated
Sick at my stomach
Constipation
Constantly Thirsty
Body/Hands Shake if you don't drink enough water
The constant need to stretch every part of my body (this makes you want to get up and run around)
Odd cravings for vegetables and dairy products
Insomnia
Abdominal Cramps (most likely caused by constipation)
Diarrhea (usually only if I drink lots of orange juice or Starbucks)
Feel like you are on speed (because you are)- you will clean your whole house if you take this stuff.

I went to the doctor on October 9th, 2007, with a sinus infection, that had jumped into my eyes, throat, teeth and ears. I was prescriber Levaquin for 10 days, 750 MG. I took 6 of the pills before I realized that the medication was my problem.

From the beginning I could not sleep, which is totally unusual for me. The minute I would lay down my skin would begin to feel itchy and I became very anxious. I had to miss several days work as I was told that my illness was highly contagious and the side effects had already begin setting in. I had blurred vision, heartburn, severe stomach cramps, knee and leg cramps including severe pain when walking or trying to stand up. I felt as though I had been run over by a SEMI-TRUCK. I would feel a little "out of it" if I had telephone conversations with anyone. I finally realized that it was either the medication or I really had a bad medical problem. I called the pharmacist who told me to contact my doctor immediately. When speaking with my doctor, I was told to discontinue the medication immediately, but unfortunately I had already taken the dosage for that day. I was told that I had enough of it in my system to last another day or two.

My legs and knees are giving me so much pain, that it is unbearable to walk or attempt to stand. I am still having abdominal cramps and my vision is also continuing to give me problems.

Heaven only knows why I decided to look on the web to see if anyone else had encountered problems, but at least at this point I know I am not going crazy.

It is quite frightening to think that the side effects on this medication could be long term. My advice to anyone given this medication by your doctor...tell him "NO WAY!"

My doc put me on Singulair a few years ago and I quit taking it after realizing it was causing horrible pain in the muscles of my back and down my legs. Nothing seemed to make it go away either. Then she put me on Advair which made me feel like I was loosing my mind plus other bad side effects so I quit that drug too. So recently she asked me to try Singulair again. I said no but she talked me into trying it again because she had never heard of those side effects. I am now two weeks into it and have been experiencing different side effects this time. And worse. Migraine for 3 days now, disturbing dreams, abnormal uterine bleeding, abdominal cramps, sleepyness, and irritability.
I thank you all for sharing - it has helped me make up my mind and I will direct my doc to this site so she will know the truth - not what she hears from the drug reps!

Ok so I have been taking lisinopril since July 20th, against the advice of my husband who is an RN. He said the side effects were hell and had long term effects. I however was convinced that my physician new better. I have had the weird dreams, night sweats, nausea, horible abdominal cramps. This mornig I woke up with a swollen face, severely swollen tounge to the point I could not swollow and was drooling. My lymph nodes and neck swollen as well. Needless to say we went right to the hospital before I stopped breathing. When I told the doctor what I was taking he said to immediately stop it, as it was a rare side effect of the lisinopril. GREAT Something to cure me almost killed me. After a cortisone shot and a week of prednisone I should be back to normal. Im going to listen to my husband now, eat less salt and excercise more.
