I HAD KNEE SURGERY ON 11/02/2009. MY DOCTOR PERSCRIBED PERCOCET FOR THE PAIN. I DIDNT KNOW WHAT TO EXSPECT OR WHAT EFFECT THE NARC WOULD HAVE ON ME. ALL I KNEW .....IS THAT I WANTED SOMETHING THAT WOULD KEEP ME FROM FEELING THE PAIN. AT 1ST I WAS TAKING IT EVERY 8HRS & I WOULD WAKE UP IN GREAT PAIN. THEN MY SON READ THE BOTTLE & SAW THAT I WASNT TAKING IT AS PERSCRIBED. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKING IT EVERY 3HRS. SO I STARTED TO TAKE IT EVERY 3HRS & INSTANTLY I FELT A DIFFRENCE. (MY NOSE STARTED TO RUN) I WOULD BE (TALKING 1 MINUTE THEN DEAD SLEEP THE NEXT) MY SKIN WAS (ITCHY) ALL THE TIME (LIKE I WAS AN ADDICT) I STARTED GETTING (ABDOMINAL PAIN) (SEEING SPOTS) VERY PERKY THOUGH. THEN THE (CONSTIPATION) CAME. THIS WAS ALL IN A MATTER OF 4 DAYS. BY THAT EVENING OF THE 4TH DAY THE CONSTIPATION & ABDOMINAL PAIN WORSENED & I DECIDED I WASNT GOING TO TAKE THE NARC ANYMORE. I DIDNT TAKE IT YESTERDAY & HAD A (HARD TIME GETTING TO SLEEP) THANK GOD IT WASNT DUE TO THE PAIN. I DIDNT TAKE ANY TODAY BUT THOUGHT ABOUT IT SO I CAN GET TO SLEEP BEFORE 5AM. I had the Mirena Coil fitted 4 months ago and since then I have suffered 2 infections. I suffer with severe endometriosis and had a liter of blood removed from my last ovarian cyst, which, I've been told is growing back again. I thought this coil was supposed to improve things, but alas, sadly, that's not the case...It feels like I can actually physically feel it inside of my uterus. I am 36 and don't have kids, therefore had to be put under general anesthetic when the damn thing was inserted, had horrific headaches and abdominal pain since and I'm told this is the best protection I have for my condition!?! I don't know what it is that's making my system dislike it so much, scans show it's not displaced, it's just, for some reason, not agreeing with me, maybe I need a little more time to adjust, but it feels like I have an alien device sitting inside of me and it's hurting instead of helping...any advice on the subject would be greatly appreciated!!!

Was prescribed avelox for bronchitis. Took it for the full ten days. began having diarrhea. It has been 5 weeks since i stopped taking the medication and have continued to have diarrhea, cramping, abdominal pain. The diarrhea is a loose stool. Have had stool tests done and do not have a secondary infection from this.

i had my mirena inserted February 2009 for the first 2weeks i bled heavy,had abdominal pain and a bloated stomach as time went on it got better but now i get a brown discharge which is horrible and i feel nausea often. i don't know what todo as ive had the pill and fell pregnant and i also fell pregnant on the implant,the injection made my bones weak and i really don't want anymore children two's enough for a 20yr old.

I had my Mirena in for a little over a year and had if removed on August 18th 2009. I suffered from most of the side effects that are listed on Mirena's website. I have also noticed, that between the time I got the IUD inserted til now, they have included many more side effects on their website. Good for them. However, I just read something on their site that I wanted to point out to all of you ladies using or thinking about using this form of BC. What if I become pregnant while using Mirena?
Unfortunately, no birth control method, not even tying your tubes, is 100% perfect. If you do get pregnant while using a birth control method, there can be risks to you and your baby. Here we talk about the risks of getting pregnant while Mirena is still in place.

About 2 in 1000 women using Mirena for one year may become pregnant. One risk of getting pregnant using Mirena is called ectopic pregnancy, when the pregnancy is not in the uterus. It may occur in the fallopian tubes. Signs of ectopic pregnancy may include unusual bleeding or abdominal pain. Ectopic pregnancy is an emergency that requires immediate medical attention and often surgery. Ectopic pregnancy can cause internal bleeding, infertility and even death. Call your healthcare provider right away if you think that you're pregnant.

There are also risks if you get pregnant while using Mirena and the pregnancy is in the uterus. Severe infection, miscarriage, premature delivery and even death can occur with pregnancies that continue with an intrauterine device (IUD). Because of this, your healthcare provider may try to remove Mirena, even though removing it may cause a miscarriage. If Mirena cannot be removed, talk with your healthcare provider about the benefits and risks of continuing the pregnancy.

WOW i can't believe what I am reading on here! this is exactly what's been going on with me for years (i've had two mirenas; one for five years and then a new one was put in last may):

VERY stubborn weight gain
anxiety
mood swings
abdominal pain
digestive issues
pain with sex
thyroid issues

I just got my second Mirena in May 2009- I had my first one five years ago, after I had my second daughter...I didn't' have any side effects from the first one, but this time is totally different. I have gained about 10 pounds in the last 3 months (not like me at all) and I feel depressed for the first time..and I also just took a pregnancy test because of the weight gain in my stomach- I'm considering having it taken out- does any one have any experience with only having side effects the second time???

I began taking Levaquin for a kidney infection. After the first pill (500mg) I had insomnia, joint pain and a little under the weather. I thought maybe it was a combination of the pill and still having the kidney infection. I figured the infection wasn't gone because the first med, Sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 I had a reaction too also. That was prescribed for 10day when I only was 4days into it with that pill. So I went from Friday to Monday without any medications. I felt that the kidney infection was still there because I was still hurting, not as bad as when I went to ER but knew it wasn't gone. So Monday night I started taking the Levaquin. Felt bad after the first pill but after taking the 2nd pill I became very weak, had ringing in my ears, eyes started to swell,had sweats nausea, stomach hurt and became very bloated, neck pain so bad I could hardly turn my neck. Pain running down into my shoulder blades, jaw pain, sore throat, nausea, felt like someone was squeezing muscle in left arm and squeezing muscle on left side of neck Started to have some muscle pain in right calf. Call Dr. on call and he said STOP taking the medicine, take some Benadryl and if gets worse go to the ER. Well, I took some Benadryl which made it seem a little better, but this is the day after and my muscles by my shoulder blades are so sore and have a burning sensation. I still feel somewhat weak but not as bad as last night. Seems I tired out real quick. This medicine made me feel like I was on the way out. I was prescribed it for 7 days and only took it for 2. Now I am very hesitant about taking anything as I have had reactions now to 2 different meds. Still don't know if kidney infection is gone or not. Does anyone know of any natural ways to rid yourself of kidney infection? I would appreciate any advice anyone has. All I know this has been 2weeks of @@@@ since I was diagnosed with this kidney infection.

I am so happy to have found that many others are experiencing the same things...I have gone CRAZY!!!! I almost started anti-depressants and was scheduled to see a psychiatrist next week because I have totally changed emotionally and sexually. I had a great sex drive and was always happy go lucky....after some thought I starting researching this Mirena...and I think this may be the root of my unhappiness. Plus all these other side effects!....

~ leg cramps
~ hair loss
~ oily skin and bad breakouts
~ No period ..ever
~ Mood swings (huge...yelling fits at my husband and the kids)

oh my...thank god for reading this site...i so thought something is seriously wrong with me i had the mirena inserted in feb.. i have had the worst acne breakouts through my hair all my face, back, chest, legs etc, i have been having headaches and bad lower backache which i was seeing my chiropractor weekly, i get abdominal pain, discharge, thrush wont go, dry skin itchy, my eyes are sore and dry itchy, i have recently started forming blistery sores, tingly in my vagina, i am extremely moody i have just about ditched all my friends and giving up start arguments, i don't want anything to do with my son, i was suicidal depressed, paranoid, dry mouth lips, achy joints, insomnia, exhausted no energy for day to day lifestyle, cant stop eating lately and feeling as though im pregnant, feeling of burning heat in my legs, wake up in lather of sweat, swelling of limbs, i just had no idea what was happening, im so glad to know now whats causing this only after hundreds of dollars at dermatologist and chiro etc, i cant believe so many others are experiencing the same, just bit worried to get it out, and what contraception to use now,

I am 24 years old. I started using the Nuvaring about 9 months ago, back in November shortly after my youngest son was born. In January, only two months after starting it, I was beginning to have severe stomach pains and a lot of nausea that would come and go throughout the day. I went into the emergency room one night because it got so bad and they told me that I was going to have to have my gallbladder removed due to large stones. I'm trying to figure out whether anyone else has had any similar issues with the ring. I have read here and there that gallbladder disease is a side effect but I also have issues with it in my family. Has anyone else had a problem with this? I have also dealt with a lot of depression, headaches, slight weight gain, mood changes (just as bad, if not worse then while I was pregnant) and I am going to have to schedule an eye exam because it seems like the past few months, my eye sight has just gone down hill fast. I have never had to wear glasses or contacts.

Has anyone else out there had issues with their gallbladder and eyesight? Most of the posts that I see are saying issues with hair loss and depression. I am seriously thinking about talking to my doctor about changing methods, I was just wondering if there are people having symptoms like mine or whether I need to attribute them to something else. Any information would be helpful, Thanks.

At 5mg, the usual and expected side effects of nausea and diarrhea, which were worse if eating carbs. Those side effects were not that bad, and I lost 6 pounds during the month I was on the medication.

I then was increased to 10 mg. That was when I started experiencing problems. Incapacitating abdominal pain and profuse diarrhea which would last for about 2-3 hours, and hit me in the middle of the night every night I was on the medication. I also had *very* intense carb cravings and a compulsion to eat and just couldn't stop eating. My doctor took me off it after a week of this, and said that he had heard of the increased appetite and carb craving before. In one week, I gained back the 6 pounds I had lost the month before.

I got the Mirena put in May 2008 and for the last 2 months i have had nausea,abdominal pain. I called the OB and the nurse told me that since i have had the mirena in this long i am not having side effects of it. I am not sure what to do. I am starting to get blurred vision with migraines. I need to call them to be seen......i need to find something else for birth control if this comes out any suggestions. thanks

Hi all, I first discovered this site back in May 2009 and posted on 25th June 2009.

I had my Mirena inserted in April 2007 after consultation with my Gyno and being told this is the best option available to me following constant bleeding and pain during menstrual cycles. Also had pollops removed during the same operation (which may have been causing the pain also). I was (like many) led to believe there were NO SIDE EFFECTS!!!! I can only assume we are part of some huge experiment??

I am 43 (soon to be 44 years old) with two adult children (18 and 21 years) and very happily married.

Like many others, my side effects are/WERE mood swings (recent panic attack - very scary!), headaches, abdominal pain, light bleeding for 2 - 3 weeks every month, fatigue and general feeling of unwellness, days of extreme sadness (would not classify it as depression), no interest in anything, almost complete loss of interest in sex, nausea, weight gain. Pre Mireena I had lost 35 kgs (approx 80lbs) with a lot of hard work. My gym regime and diet didnt change but I have still gained 15 kgs.

I use the "were" because I also made the decision to have the Mireena removed and like others was ready for a fight with my doctor.

No need to fight, my doctor listened to everything I said plus informed me she knows exactly what I am talking about because her two sisters had exactly the same problems and had the Mirena removed. Needless to say, THE MIRENA HAS NOW BEEN REMOVED. HOORAY!!!!

It has only been 8 hours so I don't really expect any miracles immediately although it would be nice to wake up and have lost the 15kgs I have gained.

To cut my very long story down, my doctor informed me of some interesting news about the Mirena. I was told at my age (43) to increase Progestron can send the body into Hormone overload, in fact we should be having more Oestrogen instead. The Mirena increases the amount of Progestron in the body, maybe that is part of the problem????

I am feeling so pleased to have the MIRENA OUT, will keep you posted on my progress. So far go good......no signs of bleeding yet.

To all the women still taking this drug: I beg you to stop taking this medication and read all of the posts on this site!!!! Here is my story... I was on Yasmin for 6 years. About 4 years into taking the drug, I noticed a mass on my right side. It was a painful mass that I could easily feel, and it eventually because so uncomfortable that I could no longer sleep on my right side, and it affected basic movement. At the same time, I was beginning to show some side effects of Cron's disease (which runs in my family), so my gastro doctor told me to get a CT scan and an MRI. The tests revealed a gigantic mass on my liver and I was told to see a liver specialist right away. I went to KU Med and was told that I had to have emergency surgery right away, and that I was basically a walking time bomb.... If I tripped and fell, it could cause this mass to rupture and I could bleed to death. He also told me that if I had gotten pregnant while I had the mass, it would almost certainly lead to death for me and the baby. Nonetheless, they cut me open from the middle of my chest clear down to my belly button. They did a liver resection and removed my gall bladder and several lymph nodes. The mass on the scan turned out to be 2 grapefruit-sized benign masses, called Focal Nodular Hyperplasia - most commonly caused from the hormones in birth control pills!!!! Ladies, this was major surgery.... I was in the hospital for 9 days and out of work recovering for nearly 2 months.... and this all took place 2 months before my wedding!!!!!! The MASSIVE stress I endured caused me to have panic attacks and I thought I was going to literally die. Keep in mind that my CT and MRI were purely coincidental. If my GI doctor had not ordered the tests, I would have never known about the masses, and God only knows what would have happened to me.... Anyway, this whole ordeal has DRASTICALLY changed my life and affected all of the people I love, my husband included, who has to endure all of my pain and anxiety. BOTTOM LINE - IT'S JUST NOT WORTH IT! TELL EVERY WOMAN YOU KNOW!

So let me tell you my experience...I started taking the generic form of Yasmin (Ocella), mind you I have been on four other birth control pills and had no problems. The first cycle I had with this pill I felt like I had the flu with no sinus symptoms, so I went to my doctor, it was flu season, did a flu test: negative. He told me it was just a virus and my body will kick it out in a few days...so I went back home and went back to bed...not six hours later I had a constipated feeling...go to the bathroom and I was having severe bloody diarrhea. I had to call my husband to come and get me to take me to the ER because my abdominal pain was so severe. The ER did a CT (yummy on the barium milkshake by the way, not!) they said I had colitis...went to a GI doctor and I went through 2 CT's, a colonoscopy, endoscopy, small bowel series, sonogram, and blood work to see if I was allergic to gluten and lactose...I was limited to jello and apple juice as my food supplements...I was STARVING for three months. I realized that when I would go to the ER they would give me antibiotics and I would feel better until about 24 hours after I ran out...I called my OBGYN and he told me flat out, stop taking the pill you are having ischemic colitis and it is a severe reaction to that pill you are taking...I also wound up having surgery because endometriosis runs in my family and he wanted to make sure mine didn't get any worse...which was wonderful...I quit taking the pill and I have to be on a pill due to hereditary gynecological issues...so I was put on Orth-Tri-Cyclin and Life is wonderful again!!! So for you ladies...some of you had it easy!! I almost had to get part of colon removed because they thought it was UC! Twelve weeks in a colostomy bag...NO THANK YOU!!

I had the Mirena inserted 4.5 years ago. I had lost over 100 pounds and thought it would be a better option than taking the pill. I had few problems with spotting. I quickly gained back 80 pounds of the weight in the next six months with no variation in diet or exercise. I haven't been able to lose it. Five months ago my perfectly clear skin began to turn into an acne nightmare. I have lower abdominal pain and as of late a incredibly sensitive breasts. Have never experienced the amount of uncontrolled rage and anger that I have been going through. I have one child, I am 41 years old, and I plan to have it removed and do not plan to replace it. I too was very intimidated by my doctor. I hope she'll listen this time and help me. Some of us tend to be too submissive when we put our trust in medical professionals. Thank you for the voice of women who have had this experience. My friend has had no problems with it, inserted six months ago, and I hope she doesn't.

I'm posting this message b/c I have had years of experience with Mirena and want to share it. My experience has NOT been horrible. I got my first one inserted 4 years ago, had minimal side-effects, then wanted to have another baby. I had it for 2 years before I removed it and a month later was pregnant again. IT DID NOT HURT TO HAVE IT REMOVED!
I had a second one inserted after the birth of my second child and have had minimal side-effects. There are only three things I would like to share that I have considered "annoying" about Mirena. Acne, yeast infections, and my period has not changed or stopped...still 7 days every 4 weeks. And, as I'm reading all of these postings I'm starting to realized that the overwhelming theme here is not just Mirena...its that we're all new mothers. Motherhood brings a whole new world of problems...hair loss, hormonal imbalances, weight gain, lack of sleep, (oh and to the person with the ganglion cyst...could it be from lifting that heavy car seat in and out of your SUV with the same wrist that's bothering you?), abdominal pain from c-sections...or natural birth, depression, anxiety...the list goes on and on. I would only warn some of you that taking out the IUD may not fix all of your problems and with the risk of possibly getting pregnant again, it may actually exacerbate some of the so-called "side effects" by adding another child to your family. Good luck with your decision, but I wouldn't necessarily blame it all on that little IUD.

oh please your all a bunch of whiners. I don't understand that when people get something medically new that they seem to blame every little thing on it!!! seriously!!! if it were so bad it would not be on the market..... i have had it for two years.....a little cramping in the beginning which is NORMAL and as STATED on the side effects list. YOU MUST UNDERSTAND that these are listed because they DO AND HAVE happened to other people. That is why they are listed! NOW if you died, got cancer, pregnant or what have you then you can bitch. BUT PLEASE don't complain about the LISTED side effects. it is a wonderful product and it does just as it claims. yea the cramping sucks....the spotting is a pain.....men can feel it during intercourse and yes sometimes they can bump it and hurt you. also it causes cysts to grow on your ovaries which can sometimes require surgery. it can also grow outside your uterine wall at time. and it can fall out. all kinds of things can happen that are LISTED. what i would recommend people should do BEFORE they leap into bed with a new contraceptive is RESEARCH the SIDE EFFECTS BEFORE you decide you want it or not. its simple read the damn sheet and decide if you can live with the side effects. maybe one....or all...or none. THEN DECIDE.

I had my mirena put in about 3 months ago. About a month later I started noticing hair loss; not to mention lower back pain, acne (mostly on my back, nose), abdominal pain, feeling tired, headaches, & depression. I have been dieting and exercising (extensively) for about 4 months now and have not lost a pound. The hair loss has really gotten out of control so I decided to check with a pharmacist and she suggested that I take Biotin 1000 and Womens One a Day every day. That same night I started googleing "Hair Loss", "Hair Loss Vitamins" and then I thought why not google "Mirena-Hair Loss". I am so happy that I was directed to this website. I was shocked to see how many woman are having the same symptoms I have. What I find most upsetting is that none of these side effects are mentioned on their website nor by the doctor. I already made an appointment to get this "horrible" thing out. Does anyone know if it hurts when it's removed?

I'm a 36 year old mother of 2 and I have to say that I never felt so out of touch since I got the Mirena IUD inserted. I got the IUD on 4/9/09 and everything was ok until I started my 3 rd month. I got every side effect possible from, Dizziness, light headed, depression, anxiety, back pain, breast pain and tenderness, abdominal pain, headaches, etc... But I have to say that the worse part is that I lost control of my emotion and I didn't have energy to cater to my family. Oh by the way did I mentioned no SEX DRIVE???? My husband and I could not take it anymore and I just got the little devil removed on 6/26/09 and I have to say my abdominal pain has pretty much disappear and I'm starting to feel that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I can't say that it will not work for you but I do have to say that it definitely didn't WORK FOR ME!!!!! Just do some research before you get it done...... Oh By the way the your doctor may not truly believe that this side effect are possible. Just listen to your body is the only thing that is telling you the TRUTH!!! GOOD LUCK!

I have been taking Loestrin 24 Fe for about 2 in a half months. I had started a period in the middle of my first set and they said that it would just take time..well i haven't had a period since. I have had UTI and pregnancy test and they were both negative. The doctors thought i was crazy and I felt helpless and thought it was because i hadn't taken them regularly enough. My symps were nausea/vomiting, yeast infection,sore/tender boobs, dry skin, cold sores, chapped lips, excess sweating (so much to where id wake up with wet hair), dizziness, rash,hair loss, depression, joint pain, horrible abdominal pain(like bad cramps),back pain, no appetite which i lost about 10 pounds in 2 weeks, headaches, and i hadn't had a period in two months. All these symptoms happened in about a two week span. I was freaking out about it because the doctors told me it was just stress but i was sure that something was wrong..i was talking to my mom because i was really scared and upset & she asked what birth control i was on and i told her. She looked at the package and saw it was Loestrin -->FE<--(iron)..no one in my family can take iron and it makes them very very sick. Im going to the doctor tom again to tell them that and im almost positive that this is the reason. I will let you know when i find out.

I was prescribed Doxycycline for chronic prostatitis. I took 100mg. twice per day for 3 months. The doctor told me that he puts men on antibiotics (Bactrim and Ciprofloxacin) for 6 months and longer. I had been on both of those drugs in the past and had depression after taking ciprofloxacin for thirty days. I have not had depression from the doxycyline "yet" but did experience insomnia and minor dizziness off and on for a month before the serious effects hit me. During the course of treatment several times I felt unusual tiredness for a day or two but it would go away and I would feel strong again. One week before I stopped taking the doxycycline the bad effects started. Lower back ache, humming in the head, loud ringing in the ears, mild mental confusion, forgetful, headache, dizziness, lack of appetite, nausea, minor tingling in the upper lip feet and hands, sore anus, minor pain in the throat, unusual tiredness, scratchy eyes (like sand in them), redness of skin, pale hands and feet, joint and muscle pain, tight muscles in legs, bloating, abdominal pain, and blurred vision. I have been off the doxycycline for four days and still have many of the symptoms. I read at ****** that doxycycline depletes the body of B vitamins. The week I stopped taking a multivitamin / mineral pill the symptoms started. I was very cautious about taking the vit. pill four hours after taking the doxycycline throughout the course. I plan to get a blood test to confirm the B vitamin content. I took a vit. pill today and it has helped reduce the insomnia and color of the feet and hands. My question to you all is how long dose it take the body to repair the damage? Thank you for all your posts they give hope of recovery.

I cannot believe that I found this site. I just had yet another symptom pop up within the last few days -- joint pain. The pain is so extreme. I got my Mirena put in April 13, 2009 and it's been awful. I also have a sensitive cervix and bled all over the table and it was so extreme that the nurse had to use a handful of nitrix things to cautirize the area. Anyways, I was lucky that after my third child that I lost the weight almost immediately. I also have a low thyroid, which makes the weight loss all the more remarkable. I had the Mirena put in 2 months after having my son. I haven't stopped bleeding. I experience both the red and brown blood. I'm passing blood clots daily. I get light-headed and put on 10 pounds in 4 days. My hair is falling out. I have horrible abdominal pain, lower back pain and feel overall pretty lousy. As if my symptoms weren't enough to discourage intimate relations the severe bleeding any time we do have relations would. I surely thought that these symptoms were from my thyroid. I just had it tested. My levels were actually in the hyperthyroid range at 0.3 -- it's never been that low. Now, I'm wondering if like a lot of you that the MIRENA may be to blame. It's ridiculous how awful and woozy I feel. I haven't felt this bad ever!
