I am 31 years old and was placed on Yaz to control unexplained and abnormal bleeding (I read the "Packet" my doctor should not have prescribed Yaz for this reason.) I am guessing the Yaz rep was the most recent visitor to his office. Anyways, I began to feel "off" after being on the pill for about 5 days. It was Easter and I could not feel the joy of the family gathering. I just wanted to sleep and not interact with anybody. By day 8 I was feeling EXTREMELY depressed. It was so depressed, I feel for my own safety I had to go to the hospital, I feel so depressed and emotional sad that I was fighting not to kill myself. I went to the ER and given Ativan to calm me. I stopped the YAZ that day (The ER doctor believed it was the Yaz). It took 7 days for Yaz to get out of my system...during that time I was taking Ativan and under constant supervision by my husband. I could not go to work (I am a teacher) and the School psychiatrist called me daily. I am currently on an Anti-depressant (prescribed by my physician, who is not sure if it was the Yaz that caused this.) I know myself and I was NOT myself on this pill.

I was on nuvaring for about 1.5 years until I quit late summer/early fall of 2008. I'm 25 and I quit because I always felt "dry" and had no sex drive. I felt like I was just pumped full of hormones and wanted to give my body a break and quit all birth control for a while. Around the time I quit, I began to bleed during sex. Not every time, just "hit and miss", not very much, but one time there was quite a bit. I ignored this for a while and then started looking things up on the net which lead me to freak and think I had cervical cancer. I rushed in for a pap test and even during the exam, I bled (pretty badly) this made my results inconclusive and I have to go back in 3 months after the cells on my cervix have re-grown and they can get a proper sample. I'm less worried after finding this forum, but wondering how many others out there have suffered from the mysterious bleeding during sex? Is anyone still suffering from this after discontinuing use?
Other side affects were weight gain, panic attacks, and major hair loss.

I'm 23 years old, and a mother of 2 children under 2. I had my Mirena placed in September 2008. Since the placement, i have had extreme bleeding and clotting for 20 days straight in the beginning. my doctor said that was normal and that it would subside, which it did, but i was still having the abnormal bleeding throughout. That wasn't a concern for me, it started with the strange pains that i would get, it felt as if something sharp was poking my insides, my boyfriend also would feel it during intercourse, and at times it would be so painful for him we had to stop. That has ruined our sex life. Just recently i have developed lower back pains and didn't know where it was coming from, i thought maybe because I'm constantly picking up my 7 month son who weighs as much as his sister who is 2. But then the depression started kicking in. I feel so lost. I cry out of no where, and I'm always tired, and have no motivation, or desire to care. I feel like everything is falling down around me, and i have no control over it. I snap out of no where with anger. I'm a stay at home mother, and i feel trapped every day. i love my kids, but lately i feel like I've lost who i am, and it's effecting my relationship with my children, not only that but with their father. i feel myself distancing myself from him. I don't really have anyone to talk to about anything, and sometimes i just wanna run away from everything in my life. i used to be such a fun person, always laughing and happy, but now i feel like I'm not me, like I've changed completely. i thought i was loosing my mind until i thought maybe this is all a side effect from Mirena? My doctor did not warn me of this so i wasn't sure until i found this website. I can't believe everyone is experiencing the same thing! as of now i don't have medical insurance, and i want this thing removed! I'm in the process of getting insurance so i just hope that i can cope with this a little longer, because i feel like I'm gonna lose myself entirely

I started taking Yasmin at the end of July due to abnormal bleeding of the uterus. At the time that I started the pill, I had been having a period for two weeks so I was relieved when it stopped. However, I have been extremely tired to the point where it is hard for me to keep my eyes open especially right after taking the pill. I have also had extreme tenderness in my breast to the point where I can not sleep on either side of my body. I have always had cramps but this time they lasted throughout my entire period, and they were the worst I have ever experienced.
My symptoms are not as bad as some of the ones you all have posted, but I want tot stop this pill before things get any worse. My doctor said it would also help me with my weight loss, but I'm too exhausted to even take initiative. I called my doctor to make an appointment so I can get my meds changed. Wish me luck.

I've also experienced many of the same side effects. I was on NuvaRing for 3 years and on the pill for 5 years before that. For me I found the changes very subtle. My sex drive was not effected right away, but it just kept getting lower and lower. I was doing grad school so I was getting more and more stressed and thought that that had something to do with it, so I ignored it. I was also much more anxious, depressed, short tempered, unmotivated, fatigued and oh, did I mention depressed! I honestly thought it was all due to the stress I was experiencing in grad school, but I did feel like something may be up. A lot of my symptoms were similar to hypothyroidism (oh yeah, I also gained 30 lbs after switching from the pill to NuvaRing) so I got tested, but my thyroid was fine. I had heard about the increased risk of blood clots for the patch, so I wanted to find out if the risk was also heightened for NuvaRing, so I googled a bit and came across some other sites like this one and saw how similar other peoples situations were to mine. I went off it 3 weeks ago (after only having a new ring in for one week) and I got a really long and heavy period right away. Since then I've been having mild cramps until today where they are the worst I've ever had. On the bright side, everyone has noticed how much happier I am - I really feel like my old self again. I haven't been depressed or stressed since I've been off NuvaRing!! It's so awesome. We've switched to non-hormonal contraceptive methods - I wanted to give my body a break and I may be trying for babies in the next year. Anyway - for those of you considering going off - TRY IT!! It can't hurt (except maybe for some cramping :D) If you don't start to feel better you can always go back on. It has made a huge difference in my life. I too was considering suicide at 26 when I'm normally a really happy person. My mom has also noticed that my moods are much more stable - apparently I was going a bit bipolar before!

I had Mirena placed approximately a year ago, after my 3rd child as a temporary birth control sinc i was on a waiting list for tubal ligation. I knew something was gonna go wrong with this thing because from the beginning it was not "cooperating" My doctor was out that day and had another Doctor who was filling in for her place the Mirena, that thing just kept popping off and would not stay put. After 3 painful attempt she stated "it is now in, but the thread is too long so she went in and cut it more... oh now it's too short, but it is in place". I asked if it was in place and would it keep popping off since she was having problem placing it in....I was told no.... just check for the string constantly... After 3-4 months of cramping, abnormal bleeding, and spoting everyday, and not being able to feel that string, i figured it was all normal, and is that where the crabiness was coming from? After a year of placement, I went to my OB and she could not find the string... I thought it was just me, but just to make sure she called another doctor to check, they did ultrasound, and finally x-ray.... well they found it somewhere inside me, i don't exactly know where it is located, maybe inside my uterus? I still have to discuss these info with my doctor on wednesday to talk about my surgery... yes surgery, now i have to go thru surgery..... to remove the mirena that wandered off inside me, UGHhhhhh. I hate this mirena, had i known i would have to go thru this i would have just settled for the pill....... Hopefully after it is removed, the cramping would go away, spotting and abnormal bleeding, and i could go back to being a mom to my children instead of momster... and maybe i can now go to sleep on time And oh no more surgery again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I've been on Topomax for about 3-4 months now. I've had memory loss, slurred speech, decreased concentration (I have to re-read something several times to understand it) tingling in the hands and feet, depression, increased anger, loss of appetite, weight loss. I'm now at the point where I have a rash on my leg, severe nausea, and abnormal bleeding. I going to follow up with my neuro and PCP to see what's going on so we'll see. My migraines have decreased from 3-4 a week to maybe 1 a week, so it has been worth it so far so I can function for work and for my kids as a single mother. I've suffered from migraines for about 10 years and can't take the pain no more!!! If anyone has experienced the nausea, rashes or bleeding please reply.

I have read these posts and others re: the Nuva Ring and I am pretty convinced that my side effects are from this. i originally started taking BC a yr ago due to abnormal bleeding ie 4 week periods. Before that it was nine years ago the last time I took BC (Depo shot). I bled for a year and my doctor said that no one else was having those problems so she cont to give me the shot. I tried to make an appt after a year of bleeding and the first one available would have been 6 months! Well quit that doctor and quit BC until the bleeding got out of hand. Now with Keriva just felt sick nauseous and tired, still bleeding. With NR no bleeding until this month a whole month of breakthrough bleeding, and I went to take the ring out and it is not there?? I have not been sleeping, it is difficult to wear my contacts, diarrhea, moodiness, weight gain, always hungry, and have increased from 34d to 34dd which is painful, to the point i have to wear a bra to bed.Sex is painful, really dry and I start to cramp, not that it happens that often I have no sex drive and it is impossible to have an orgasm. Still concerned about the missing ring. I did not feel it slip out and I know it can't get "lost", but it is concerning that it could fall out and someone not be able to feel it. I am going to the dr this week...cannot be on NR any longer...

This post is for the ladies who wonder will they feel better or notice any change after having the mirena removed. This is my own personal experience . I've had it out for about 2 weeks now after having it in for 3 1/2 years. I feel Great! I couldn't have a panic attack if I wanted to. I have had more energy, haven't had a headache. I have a returned sex drive. Sadly my hair is still very thin and patchy. The big kicker is I've lost 4 lbs as of today. My stomach now looks like I'm 3 months pregnant as opposed to 5 months. The big difference is noticed in my face and waistline. I don't feel so hungry all the time now and feel motivated to keep this going. I haven't had one heart palpitation since either. Yes I still yell sometimes, but not out of anger or rage. It's now to be heard over the yelling and screaming of my happy kids who used to cower because of my yelling that was so mean spirited and full of frustration from being so tired and feeling ill most all the time. I just worked last night 13 hrs got 5 hours of sleep today picked the kids up from school, played with them and cooked dinner to boot. I would have been in bed 2 weeks ago waiting for my husband to come home and rescue me. This has been my experience thus far and I keep posting to give those ladies hope that they can feel better once they get mirena removed. I hope others will have a positive experience with removal like I have had. Good Luck and Happy Recovery.
