I had my daughter in Sept. 2009. 6 weeks later I had the Mirena put in. I would first like to say that I was told it would not hurt going in. I screamed and cried at the top of my lungs it hurt sooo bad. The OB blamed it on a tilted cervix. I have since been irritable, always in a fog, very crampy, constipated, terrible acne (that I've never had before), developed hemorrhoids, Weight gain, and I have no sex drive. Now new symptoms occur. I am exhausted. I struggle everyday to get out of bed. I have a 2 year old and a 8 month old. Sadly this is affecting my parenting. I am having severe headaches. Now I am constantly nauseous. After I eat I am getting very sick for like an hour. I am extremely weak and can barely even walk. I shake uncontrollably also. Please, anyone with any info. please let me know. I am getting this thing out ASAP, but I am scared to death of the pain when it comes out and I am extremely worried that it has done some damage to my body. my email is fireflies10105 at yahoo. please I need advice!!

I am 38 years old and was on NR for maybe six months. I kept telling my Dr. I wasn't very pleased with it, but she encouraged me to stay with it. Finally, tired of it, I stopped and really regret not following my gut feeling in the beginning. I put on so much weight in my stomach only and looked to be about 8 months pregnant, and had gotten a blood clot in my right leg. I was also always having to push it back up in me from it slipping out. Only one time in my early 20's have I ever had an abnormal pap., but three months after being on NR I haven't had a normal one since. Constant yeast and bacteria infections. I have now been through a painful test, and should be starting some kind of procedure to get rid of my abnormal cells on April 3. I am so frustrated and scared of what is going on inside of me. My Dr. doesn't seem to feel any of this has anything to do with the nr, but I strongly disagree. I feel like she is getting something from the company for giving out prescriptions.

See my earlier post (from concerned mother on 8/5/08 at 8:29pm) regarding my daughter's severe reaction to the Gardasil vaccine during October - December 2007. As stated, she continues to experience menstrual problems (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, severe cramping) which incapacitate her. In October 2008, her annual pap test showed precancerous cells. She is going for a re-check in February (I will post the outcome once it's known). The doctor wanted to wait 6 months for re-check but we are not comfortable with that. Just wanted to remind everyone to get their annual pap exams!!!

I received my first gardasil shot this year and was in bed for 2 days with severe cramps. When I went back for my 2nd round of shots I mentioned the severe cramping and my family doctor said the 2 weren't related. At that same appointment she reviewed a complete workup that I had done since she was a new doctor and I was completely healthy except my cholesterol being a little high which I knew was due to eating a lot of fast food at the time b/c of a new work atmosphere. I have now had all 3 shots and recently just went in for my obgyn annual and now I have a yeast infection that a week worth of antibiotics haven't gotten rid of and have to go back for a procedure because I have abnormal cells. I have never had any problems like this and haven't been sexually active in over a year. I am very very worried especially after reading others problems

Hi I am 35 and had the Mirena put in after I had my first baby and it was in for 1 year.....But I had the Mirena taken out about a month ago (there is no pain at all in taking it out)....within days my mood was better, I had numbness in hands and feet and that is almost completely gone....the pain in my side is gone....a month before I had it out I was told after my yearly I had Yeast Infection, Abnormal cells so I would need a biopsy and because of the pain in my side (and having the Mirena in a year) she did an ultrasound. I had a cyst....so I just went back for a recheck...cyst is gone, abnormal cells after biopsy are not abnormal....I did get another yeast infection (prior to Mirena I have never had a yeast infection) and I had 2 vaginal infections when it was in...and have one now....I will be honest it feels like I have toxins coming out of my system...I have had diarrhea once a day for a week and I start sweating even when sitting still...I do not regret for one second having it out....I already feel less bloated...also I had been going to the gym, eating well and gaining weight with the Mirena...I already feel like I have lost some....I will keep you posted....My friend had it in 4 years and she just had it out also....she had cysts, pain, bloating, weight gain, all the same symptoms.....the day before she had it out she was rushed to the ER for severe back and side pain and looking like she was 8 months pregnant....she has gone through all sorts of testing and everything came back normal....so I hate to say...but the Mirena may have a class action suit some day.....If it had worked it would have been great....but when something is too good to be true....there is probably a reason! Hope this helps you and I will post it out on the board for others!!!! Take Care Ladies! Michelle

A lot of people are complaining of the same symptoms, and saying they are going to get the Mirena out.....can more people update us with the results of having it removed? Did all the symptoms go away?
I've recently had a lot of the same symptoms (basically feeling pregnant--headaches, very tired, mild cramping, bloated, pants very tight around the waste, lower back aches, indigestion, and just a general yucky sick feeling like morning sickness--and wasting money on 2 pregnancy tests so far!), which seem now to have been PMS-related (PMS which lasted about 3 weeks before my period), though I've not had PMS like this since having the Mirena put in, and it's been over a year now. And my periods have been very irregular the whole time. I basically had spotting for about a year, then nothing for like 2 months, then this whole thing followed by a light period lasting 8 days.
I'm thinking about getting it removed, but would like to hear others' experiences with having it removed. Did these symptoms go away??

Today I got the results back from my yearly pap. While there were no abnormal cells found, there were also no "transformation" cells found either. I guess these cells protect the cervix from cancer. Now, I'm 37, never had any health problems to really complain about and this is the first time encountering anything like this. Some background on me: I have always had horrible periods, missed periods, and weight issues. We found that I might be polycystic, but it wasn't so bad that I couldn't get pregnant.I've had two children, 2003 and 2006. Shortly after the birth of my 2nd child, I had the mirena inserted about in early 2007. At first I was great with it, periods got lighter, no spotting, and very regular. I'd get some weird sharp cramps every once in awhile, but nothing really to complain about. But over the last few months, the hair loss, the weird acne around my hairline, the hairiness everywhere else besides my scalp, the mood swings, the memory loss, scrambled thoughts, no sex drive whatsoever, and moodiness have gotten worse. I kept thinking, ah, must be stress, work related, recent pregnancy, this that and everything else but the Mirena. Well I'm getting it out. I have to go in anyway to do another exam and more testing just to make sure I'm ok, but I'm not risking my life over not getting pregnant. Its nice to know I'm not at all alone in this. I've got two young children and I'd like to be around, and remain married for as long as possible. I'll post again once its removed. Hoping some of these weird symptoms start to vanish.

I have had the Mirena IUD for 2 years. I have notice lately that I have had vaginal dryness during intercourse. I have extreme dry scalp, and I have had about three bacterial infections in that time. I have been irritable for so long everyone in my house has gotten use to it. I am getting the IUD out next week. I am looking forward to the change.
