I have been taking Yasmin for almost 2 weeks and already I'm noticing major side effects. Both good and bad. I have lost a little bit of weight and my breasts have gotten a little bigger. But those positives don't outweigh the negatives. I had one day of horrible naseua but that didn't last long. My skin has been a little pimple-prone but I'm not sure if that's due to the pill. I have had some spotting, but I know that that is normal and something I can live with temporarily. The MAJOR thing is I have never been prone to getting depressed or being emotionally unstable, but ever since I've been taking this pill I am constantly insecure and crying over absolutely nothing. I am sensitive to everything. I never used to be like this at all. I mean, I am human and I will have my downtimes, but this is too noticibly different. After googling the side effects and seeing depression as the first thing to pop up, I know that this must be the reason for my sudden mood changes. Even if they are temporary, I am not taking the chance. I am going off of this pill as soon as possible. Has anyone else experienced these problems after being on the pill for a short time? I'm wondering how long it takes to get back to 'normal'.

Obviously every pill is going to have different side effects for different people. I'm sure this pill could work fine for some people. But I don't like the effect it has had on me.

A very disturbing side-effect of Topamax for me was a black-out period after having a couple of glasses of wine. I spent the evening with my boyfriend. We watched a movie, had a lucid conversation, consensual sex, and I remember absolutely nothing of the entire evening - scary. My boyfriend is quite upset by this, as am I.

I have been on topamax for almost a year now. I had been having a nearly constant migraine cycle for three months which had to be broken with migranol nasal spray. I then started on escalating dosages of topamax. By 100mg I realized that life was wonderful but that I couldn't retain much information which was a problem as I had just gone back to school for an advanced degree. Upon consultation with my doctor, we reduced my dosage to 50mg and things improved dramatically.

I have experienced some fingertip and toe tingling which have been completely tolerable. I take the medication right before bed so that I don't have problems with fatigue during the day. I do get out of breath easily when I exert myself and carbonated beverages taste horrible. But my migraines are under control.

I have a Ph.D. in molecular biology and a few years of neuroscience research under my belt. I would like to say that it is EXTREMELY important for people to understand that no medication is going to work identically for any two people. What works for one person, may not work for everyone. I know people who swear by imitrex but this medication does absolutely nothing for me. You have to be your own advocate when it comes to medications and treatments. Your genetics will also determine how well, if at all, you respond to any medication. For some topamax is a life saver, for others it will be the bane of their existence. This will always be the case for any medication. Be tolerant of others' experiences and understanding of each others' pain and progress will be made.

Hi ladies! I wrote here a couple weeks ago...just prior to my mental breakdown!! I laugh now but it was anything but funny. Had numerous symptoms-adverse reactions to Yaz- and was told by my PCP and my bitch gynocologist (not mine anymore!!) that what I was feeling had absolutely nothing to do with the BCPs. That was when I sought out a Naturalistic Doctor...who was completely amazing in every way and agreed that my body was having some sort of reaction to the pills and the excess hormone in my system. She did some acupuncture and made some suggestions as far as supplements and probiotics go and I literally started feeling myself again after one treatment. I had two in all and I feel wonderful and really like myself again-sleeping better and all!!! Also I'd like to mention some magic in a bottle...it's called Bach's Rescue Remedy and it immediately calms me down. The Naturopathic Doctor charged $200 for the first meeting (intake, history, acupuncture and recommendations) and $75 for each subsequent visit...worth every penny!! and the Bach's is like $7.99...well worth every single cent!!!! To be feeling normal again is priceless!!! Best of luck to all of you but do know that there is hope!!! Take care
Kara

I was on Yasmin for a little over a year and I have just come off Yasmin a month or so ago after suffering so many side effects, such as crazy water retention and swelling as a result, rapid weight gain of 30 pounds (!!) despite no changes in diet, exercise or lifestlye (other than taking Yasmin..), mood swings and general weepiness, literally no libido or interest in sex and vaginal dryness, cramping virtually all the time, severe breast pain, etc. I decided enough was enough and I was going to stop taking it or any other type of pill because I wanted my body back and I wanted it to be normal again. For anyone having problems with Yasmin I'd say come off it asap because the difference for me was almost immediate after coming off it. I felt SO much better in general and all my symptoms went away. The first week after coming off Yasmin I broke out in spots and I had horrible headaches but these all passed after that first week and slowly everything is going back to the way it was - my sex drive came back about two weeks after stopping Yasmin and it is back to how it used to be which has been a welcome miracle, my cramping and breast pain are gone (yay!), my moods are stable and happy, I didn't even miss a period (which is probably unusual) and went straight on to have a normal cycle, and overall I just feel like my self again. The only thing I need to battle now is the weight gain but actually within four couple of days of stopping Yasmin I had already dropped 3 to 4 pounds and I did absolutely nothing to make that happen. Anyway, I wish everyone out there good luck with everything and don't give up hope becuase you will go back to normal once you stop taking this horrible drug. Stay strong! It will all get better and you are not alone with these problems.

I have been coughing like mad for the three months i have been on this drug. I am so glad I have found this site and know there are others out there with the same effect. I hate going anywhere since I never know when this coughing is going to strike. It starts as a tickle (right side of throat)- absolutely nothing stops it, not water, not a honey flavored drop, nothing. I just have to keep up the coughing and gagging. Tears run down my face, my nose runs until the coughing stops. I am miserable and will notify my doctor tomorrow. The drug really lowered my pressure but I cannot stand the side effect.

My mother's symptoms were similiar to ada's. My mother who has been on Lipitor for a number of years has just been hospitalized twice, to the doctor 8-10 times within a two week period and has been to the emergency room three times for severe back pain. All within a two week time period! After doing every test known to man, CT Scans, MRI, x-rays, bone scans, they were able to find absolutely nothing wrong. Yet her pain is so bad at times that she requires injections of morphine as well as percocet by mouth! The doctors have finally come to the conclusion that she's experiencing muscle spasms/pain which could be caused by taking lipitor! I am hoping that by stopping this horrid medication she will begin to recover from this awful experience. How can such a drug continue to be prescribed to people when side effects such as this occur? I am shocked to read all of the posts here about this drug. Does anyone know if the muscle pain ever goes away once the person stops taking lipitor?

Hi again -

I just received this from the FDA in response to my submission...

"One or two well-documented case reports may provide an early signal of unexpected problems and lead to additional evaluation. This may result in FDA regulatory actions that improve the safety of the products used in patient care each day."

If they only need "One or two" case reports, let's give them a few hundred!!! The more red flags that go up, the faster they'll take action. Spend a few minutes at www.fda.org and give them your complaints - PLEASE!!!

I get so frustrated because I spent months following "false leads" because absolutely NOTHING in Yasmin's product literature warned about palpitations, anxiety attacks, etc! If there had been some mention, I could've saved myself months of misery and worry (not to mention trips to cardiologists, gynecologists and the like!) I could've figured out what was going on and done something about it before things got so bad.

"This patients medication has just been replaced with nasty syrup water. Let's see if he notices." Absolutely nothing. Is this a placebo medication? No nausea, no dizziness, but most importantly, no cough relief - just a disgusting taste in my mouth. Dr said if nothing else, it will help me sleep. Uh, no, it's not good for that either. Maybe I'm resistant to this drug?

My son is 21 years old and weighs over 75 kilos, he has been taking melleril for over 5 years now, initially taking 2 a day (each of 100mg). It's ben a few years now that i've been giving him only one tablet but now 1 tablet is doing him absolutely nothing, I am now trying him with 2 tablets and finding that he is still agressive. Would it be safe for me to give him 3 tablets a day. I was thinking maybe to give him 2 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. I have to come to a solution about this as he is biting me more each day and becoming more dangerous each day....Please help me...DONNA

I have been using Sarapin for approximately one year and I have not experienced any side effects. It controls my pain when absolutely nothing else works. I am pain free for approximately two and half weeks. Although when the pain returns, it returns with a vengence. I really like Sarapin but I am concerned about side effects and have been unable to find any. I would appreciate a list of side effects that have been reported with this medication and I would like to know why you can't recieve more than fifteen shots. I would also like to know if that is fifteen shots in a year or a lifetime.

I found your info by searching on the web and wanted to share my problems.

I was taking Pravachol for almost a year and had no problems. My physician wanted to get my LDL lower under new guidelines so he put me on 20mg of Lipitor in mid July 2004. In early September 2004, I noticed that the balls of my feet and toes felt like they were 'asleep' and my face was tingling. I asked my doctor about this and he sent me to a neurologist who did MRI's and MRA's and found nothing. They took my sugar readings and I came in at 130 after fasting 2 times. He says I have diabetes which is in the family. He's not too sure this is causing my symptoms so he's now sending me for a second opinion with another neurologist. I asked him if the change to lipitor could have precipitated theses symptoms(at my wife's urging). He said no.

I feel like I am a Zombie at times. He gave me 1800mg of neurontin for 10 days. This did absolutely nothing for me.

Everybody thinks I'm going Bonkers!!

I am a 49 years old and felt great until recently. Any help would be appreciated and if you would like more info let me know.

Thanks!!

Mike

I started my 'adventure' with anti-depressants 9 months ago.
The first was Zoloft. I began to feel totally weird and out of it, I couldnt function or barely talk. I was told this was depression and I was hospitalised and then it was changed to Effexor.
It was increased up to 300 mg a day.
I NEVER felt anything good from this stuff! all i had were the side effects
-Couldnt sleep
-awful sweating but just in the hairline.
-NO feelings
-NO taste of food (guess thats why the weight loss)
-NO energy
-felt like I had morning sickness all day.
-SCARIEST thing... it was like my IQ was chopped in half!
-I still have no retention of things I read or things that happen
-Constant thoughts of suicide. (more than when i was just depressed and not on medication)

Im trying to get off it now... slowly... and its tough. At least the sweating has finally stopped and I can taste food a bit.

I have absolutely NOTHING GOOD to say about Effexor. Its supposed to be industrial strenth for the severely depressed but I dont feel it did a thing.
I would not take it again, knowing how it was.

of course now, im supposed to be trying Wellbutrin. I dont see anything coming from that either.

Took it several years ago because it worked for my mom. Did absolutely nothing for me and nothing against me. Attempted suicide while on it, so obviously it didn't do jack squat.
