I began taking statins about 10 years ago because of a high cholesterol blood test, beginning with Lipex and then Lipitor about two years later. Until recently, I was taking 40 mg daily. I developed multiple migraines with auras after about two years of statins, then I had a 13 hour episode of transient global amnesia. For the next two years I had constant nausea and tinnitus, foot and leg cramps, with the migraines occurring frequently. At the beginning of this year, I had my first episode of paroxysmal hypertension. In June, July and August this year, my blood pressure was labile and it was accompanied by nausea, tinnitus, feelings of great weakness, painful tightening in left arm, shakiness, enervation. The general physician I saw in hospital thought my migraines could be triggering the paroxysmal blood pressure. (Later when I read the weight of anecdotal evidence on the internet, I asked myself whether both were triggered by Lipitor.) It was then discovered that I had acute gastritis. When I was told that the cause might be one of the drugs I was taking, I looked up Lipitor on the internet. I could see so many of my own symptoms but the standout side effect for me was transient global amnesia. After reading the many websites on Lipitor side effects, I asked myself whether both were triggered by the Lipitor. I stopped the Lipitor immediately and the doctor I was seeing at that time agreed that my decision was the right one. However, my general practitioner only accepts the peripheral neuropathies and tinnitus as Lipitor side effects because TGA is not listed in Pfizer's patient notes. When I contacted Pfizer, they said TGAs were not listed in their research material, but when I pressed the point, admitted that TGAs are a form of amnesia, which is listed but only in the material given out to doctors on request.

My husband is also on Lipitor for CAD. Although his cholesterol readings were low, his doctor doubled his dose of Lipitor. Since that time he developed appalling short term memory problems and could not think through relatively simple problems without a great effort. He cut the dose by half without reference to his doctor, and his short term memory had definitely improved. He is considering his next step.

hi, when i was 19 i got cystic acne (pyoderma faciale) on my face (both cheeks). I went to a dermatologist who gave me shots of cortisone (kenalog) about every 2 weeks for a period of about four months.

after four months of getting shots i noticed these linear dents beginning to emerge in my right cheek where i had several shots. i mentioned this to the dermatologist at the time and he said it was from the acne, not the shots. however, in the months that followed the dents only got deeper.

3 years later the dents had filled in quite a bit but they were still noticeable, especially to me. i wanted to get them fixed so i went to a plastic surgeon who told me that the dents in my face were the result of subcutaneous atrophy most likely the result of cortisone shots.

four months after my consultation with the plastic surgeon i get a cyst on my face (left cheek). i go back to the same dermatologist that treated me for the cystic acne 3.5 years ago (don't ask me why) and he gives me a shot. The next week i called him up complaining about a dent in my face where he gave me the shot. He was *extremely* concerned about this and told me to come in right away and "we'll put something on it."

when i get there he looks at me and says he can't see a dent in my face. i couldn't argue with him. he gives me another shot in an adjacent cyst and sends me home.

one week later the cyst starts swelling up and i call the dermatologist. he says he can't give me anymore shots because it's too soon since the last one.

now this cyst keeps swelling up and in a week gets to the size of a toonie and is jutting out 1/2 an inch from my face. i go to the doctor (gp) who tells me that it's a boil now (accute folliculitis) and he gives me fucidin cream and a strong anti-biotic (in the penicilin family). i have to miss a week of work.

it's been 3 months and the boil still isn't gone. i'm finally off the antibiotics though, after almost 2 months. what i'm stuck with now is a hard, purplish lump about the size of a nickle. that'll shrink up over time i'm told.

an interesting fact: my gp told me that cortisone, which is touted as a miracle drug for reducing inflamation, is also a drug that supresses the immune system. in other words it can make acne worse. that would definitely explain why i had to have 2 or 3 shots in the same cyst when i had the cystic acne. and the more shots you get, the greater the chance of atrophy.

anyway, that's my story.

I have taken this drug for the full 5 days but only because my uti was so accute and I wasnt able to start a new drug. it has been awful. Tremours and shakes in hands and legs, nausea, aches in bones and muscles throughout my body, so bad one night I thought I had flu..and I mean real flu which i had 6 years ago. Sweats and chills also. Even today, the last day, my back is aching and so is my neck. I have been told that this drug is prescribed because it is cheap. i will never take it again. I dont know how long these side effects last.

I was treated for a case of accute sinus infection in february of 2006 with Levaquin (750 mg for 10 days). About a week after the treatment (infection didn't go away...was put on a month of sulfameth which slowly worked), i woke up one morning with moderate back pain in lower left back. About 2 weeks later, my legs started tingling all the way up and down, including gluts and scrotum. A few days later, I started to experience random twitching of muscles in my legs. The twitching was constant and random throughout my legs, but also in some other muscles in my back, arms, and neck. After about a month, the twitching and tingling started to subside a bit. As the twitching subsided, i noticed a strange sensation in my left big toe. The sensation was a sort of weak feeling (as in the feeling of trying to make a fist when you first wake up). The sensation would come and go, but never went away totally. About a month ago, i noticed that the same sensation was occuring in my left thumb and two adjacent fingers. I still feel the effects today. I have had blood work and x-rays, with all coming out negative. I know my doctor thinks there is nothing wrong with me, but after doing some research, I'm pretty sure all this is due to the Levaquin. I am a 27 year old male, very healthy, excersise regularly. Has anyone else experienced this type of effect?

4 days into taking Advair to help me breath with my accute bronchitus I had a grand maul seizure. 3 days later I was hit with a smaller focal scizure... No one (doctor wise) is willing to admit it was the sterioids.

My Family has no history of seizures on either side.

Placing the blame on this medication is the only thing I can figure. After reading some of the other replies I think I rether would have had the headaches/joint pain for a few weeks.

Hi,
I am a 28 year old male diagnosed with "accute sinusitis" and "seasonal" allergies. My ENT put me on Singulair after numerous attempts at other drugs, including, Allegra D, Allegra 180, Clarinex, and Zyrtec. I have mild nerves and anxiety as it is but since I have been on Singulair, I have been fatigued, weak, nautious, no appetite, depressed, more anxious, more nervous , tingling in my face and skin and tightness in my chest. I am freaking out thinking I am dying of stomach cancer or heart disease and I can barely function. These symptoms/side effects started 4 days after starting Singulair. Someone out there please tell me I am normal and that if I stop taking this I will feel better because I cannot go on like this much longer. It is helping my allergies and my ears but I'd rather live with stuffy ears and nose compared to the side effects.

Hello. My mom is 86 and has macular degeration and a bad back, but there was nothing wrong with her faculties. About a month ago she had severe pain in her back. We went to the emergency room and she was admitted. After a week and numerous MRI's CAT scans, bone scans, and Xrays it was determied she had a compression fracture of the T9 vertabrae. She had on previously. They had her on anhuge amt. of meds. She was being given ms contin, percoset and flexoril. They seemed to sort of work and didn't have any severe side effects, except the flexoril made her groggy. She was sent to a sub-accute center for physical therapy. She did fairly well there and was in for 2 weeks. When she was released ( a week ago Wed.) we had hwe ms contin rx filled. I was giving her her meds (her usual ones she was taking prior) and the morphine. Within 2 days she was getting strange. She wouldn't get out of bed (HIGHLY unusual for her)she was very disoriented, wouldn't eat all the usual side effects I found out about. I have stopped the pills as of Thurs morn. I have seen a pretty good changeEXCEPT for lingering confusion. She can't rember how to use her TV remotes. Since her eyes were bad she used the before by memory for the buttons but now she can't remember where the up/down buttons are. She realizes she is confused. Can you let me know what kind of time table if any there is to this medicines effects leaving the body. Even though she is 86 before she went into the hospital she had NO mental deterioration. I realize that it is only 72 hrs but I wan't to have some idea what to look for.
Thank you
Linda
