Hi everyone,
Here's my weekly update. It's been 3 weeks now post yasmin. I'm not 100% but I would say probably 70%. I have not had an anxiety attack in over a week which is great, I'm still a bit tired, but fully functional and happy.
I went to a new Dr. yesterday, and at first he said "birth control doesn't cause these problems", then after showing him a bunch of other peoples stories, as well as explaining that I am feeling better and better with each day post Yasmin, he changed his mind.
He said that Yasmin has progestrine in it which may be the cause of the anxiety. He also explained that although I had been on it for over 3 yrs. it could happen at any time. He also explained that although it only takes about 1 week for the hormones to leave your body, the after shock so to speak could last a few months. Meaning the anxiety, fatigue and all of the other symptoms could take a while to end.
He also explained that all of the chest pains, and shortness of breath that most of us experienced were anxiety. Even if the actual attack, ie, numbing, tingling, etc. weren't along with it. He said tehre are different versions of it. And unfortunately once you have one attack you are prone to more.
He did suggest prescribing me medication for anxiety, but I stated that I wanted to wait since after stopping Yasmin, the anxiety was present the first two weeks, however it hasn't occured since.
Therefore, I just wanted to let everyone know that we are not crazy and finally someone admited that if my symptoms are less and less every day off the pill, then Yasmin must be the cause.
He also told me that when they study side effects of medications, particularly Yasmin, they only study about 1,000 people for about 6 months. Therefore they do not know the long term side effects it may cause. He said if enough people report it they will pull it off the market.
For new people to the site, I had chest pains at various locations in the chest, numbing in my arm, leg, and face, fatigue, weight gain, nausea, shortness of breath, memory loss, the list goes. on..
For those of you who have gained weight on this pill and are now off of it. How long did it take to lose the weight? I have lost 3 lbs, in 3 weeks, not nearly enough...
Thanks everyone hang in there.

I was first given prednisone in 1964 for a severe case of pneumonia complicated by asthma. They withdrew me too fast, and I ended up in a coma! My husband, a psychologist, thought I was "crazy". I was not sleeping, overdosing myself on Vitamin C, and on the day I was admited, he had forced me to go back to teaching school. I felt like I was underwater, and on the way home, I took a right turn, hit the mailbox on the LEFT side of the road, staggered to the nearest apartment to call home, but although I KNEW my number, I was so clumsy I couldn't dial it.
That night, my husband put me in the Mental Hospital where during the night, I had a severe attack of asthma and was rushed to the hospital. They had to do cut downs to find my veins and thankfully, they got my history and put me back on the steroids, where after three days, I emerged from my coma. Of course, everyone told me anything that I complained about was "all in my head". And I have had it all. Huge weight gain, from 125 to over 250 now. (I'm now 67.) Wide mood swings, insomnonia, moon face, ruptured disk, and rage. Over the years, I've been roller coasted on and off the drug more times than I can count. I am on Inhaled steroids, now, which I'd reduced to one whiff 3 times a week, (my doctor threw me out!), which keeps most of the wheezing at bay. The stuff makes me manic in large doses. I must diet constantly just to stay where I am! I will go on binges where I eat any thing that doesn't eat me first.
Two years ago, I took Yamoa powder (Yamoa.com) for a month and got off the drugs for a year. Then symptoms came back and when I took another dose, it didn't help. But it might help someone out there.
My teaching career was ruined, my husband ran off with my best friend and eventually took my kids. All my life I've had to fly "under the radar" because of my health, because I would die if I did not have medical care, such as it is under Medicaid. At least I survived. I write now. It isn't the life I'd planned, but I've managed. I've been homeless (SCARY!) and I've found friends among lifes other rejects. My kids hate me, having been exposed to my depression and rage, and I can understand, but it still hurts. The thing that helps me most is exercise. I live in Honolulu and snorkle and swim in the ocean, now. For years, I rode a bicycle as my only transportation. You can be fat AND fit!
Find doctors who will understand. And don't give up. I've let myself out of hospitals several times, and even taken off the prednisone that was being poured in my veins and poured in down the drain! Because I've learned that once the asthma breaks, my dosage needs to be dropped radically. I am extremely sensitive to steroid psychosis.
But. after 40 years, I'm still alive, and controlled.

I was given 2 doses of 750mg IV Levaquin in my local emergency room for a UTI, then sent homw with a RX for 750mg oral. I went back to the emergency room 2 days later with a temp of 101 and complaints of leg pain and numb feet. The emergency again gave me 750mg Levaquin IV admited me into a observation ward when they continued to give me three additional does 750mg Levaquin IV, and sent me home. I went back to the emergency for the third time, severe pain in feet, numbness in feet and swollen and red, burning, elevated temp and this time elevated liver and pancreases enzymes. Admitted into the hospital, they proceed to do a spinal tap to see if I had Guillian Bria Symdrome. I was concluded that I had acute sensoury neuropathy induces by Levaquin toxicity. It is four weeks past, I still have numbness and buring in my feet. I must have had my allergic reaction after the second does because as we look back, I experienced a rash around my abdomen, a sever headache and elevated temp as I received the third does. Because the temp kept stayed elevated and the leg pain got worse, they kept giving me the Levaquin, which resulted in the overdoes toxicity, that was escentially casuing the elevated liver and pancreas enzymes, which was causing the high temp and leg pain. The temp, and elevated enzymes started to decrease when the Levaquin was stopped. As for the nueopathy in the feet and lower legs, only time will tell. If you have never taken this drup before, DON"T. They are other drugs out there that can be used.
