I was on Yaz for about 2 years or so. I decided to take a break from it and then decided to look up the side effects. I found this site and another one like it. I can't believe I didn't know all the problems I was having could be from this pill.
After reading about all the side effects I decided to get off it completely.
At first when I was on it, I was great. My major adult acne FINALLY went away. No other B.C. pill worked for that. My moods right before my period were so much better.
I had been depressed a lot and this pill seemed to help a great deal.

Then about a year into the pill, I developed major food allergies. I figured out I can't eat anything with soy (or only very small amounts). I had always been lactose intolerant, but now I can hardly eat any milk products at all. Dairy and soy products completely dry me all up. I can't breathe anymore. My eyes are always dry now, especially when I wake up in the morning. I sleep with a humidifier and the Breathe Right nose strip every night now. My chest is a lot tighter and my upper back hurts a lot now. Not sure if that is related to Yaz or not.
I also have asthma, which was well controlled for years, but now it seems this pill has made me a lot worse.
I also had heart palpitations, dizziness, and severe fatigue. The fatigue seemed to come on in the last year. I could still go to work, but got so tired easily. When I got home I just wanted to do nothing. If I slept all night, it still felt like I didn't sleep at all when I woke up in the morning.
My sex drive in the last year was piratically nothing as well. That among other things ended my long term relationship.
I thought all these things were due to getting older. I'm only in my late 30's.
I also had severe headaches all the time. I thought my head was going to explode.

I've only been off the pill for just over a month, so I hope things improve.
I feel my energy is slowly coming back and the headaches are getting less frequent.
Thanks for all of you on this site and others I have read.
I think it has saved my life.

I am 30 yrs old, have been taking YAZ for a little less than one year. Loved it at first, my PMDD seemed a lot better, my skin cleared up. (I had adult acne) The decreased sex drive was immediate and after a couple of months I noticed the stomach pains, headaches, and extreme hunger in the mornings as well as shortness of breath and occasional dizziness. I even went to my regular doctor for an inhaler due to the shortness of breath. Since I started this pill to now I've gained a lot of "solid" weight that seems very hard to lose. I've gone from a size 4 to an 8. The only benefit has been that my skin is a lot clearer but as soon as I take the last pink pill in the pack my face breaks out again. This past month I've had horrible mood swings. My anxiety is worse than ever and I overreact to the smallest things. I can't stand myself and feel like a crazy person. While the thought of having acne again makes me very sad, I will no longer take YAZ.

I was diagnosed with PCOS after having its symptoms for 10 years.. For a couple of years those symptoms gradually started to get worse - hirsutism (hair around the mouth, on the chin, around the nipples), and the adult acne that wasn't going away despite any medication. And i started becoming really depressed because of that.
The ultrasound and blood tests confirmed the PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and the extremely high levels of testosterone in the blood (result of pcos). I also had abnormal period - sometimes missing a month, sometimes having it 2-3 times a month. The physician told me that it was bleeding and that I'm not ovulating. She prescribed me Yaz - said it's the lowest-dosage bc pill, said it will lower my testosterone, raise estrogen, get me rid of excess hair and acne.
After a week of Yaz, i started feeling even more depressed than usual - started having nightmares, feeling very tired most of the time. Today was the end of the second week, and I am stopping taking Yaz, for good. Yesterday, I could hardly walk a mile - so extremely tired I felt. This morning - could hardly walk to the second floor. And, all day, felt extremely vulnerable, weak, and very very depressed: I started crying just looking at the gray sky, and couldn't stop. I barely got home, because I felt extreme fatigue, and burst into tears, blaming everyone around on how unhappy I am. Now I know, it's the Yaz talking... I am 26, and I am stopping this pill NOW. For my PCOS, I'm hoping to get better results with alternative herbal treatment and acupuncture.

Hi. I have been taking Yasmin for a couple of years now. I previously took Ortho-Tri-Cycline for about 5 years. I am one of those people who always had heavy periods and severe cramps, though after the birth of my kids those things seemed to subside. My doctor suggested Yasmin because I had a lot of mid-month bleeding with the Ortho, and I had developed some adult acne. The Yasmin did seem to help (a little) with the skin issues, but I still bleed in the middle of the month--every month. I call it the 'second period.' I know that the pill has side affects but they are becoming unbearable. I am fat and bloated all the time, I loose hair and feel ugly and very tired. I also suffer from hormonal migraines which the pill is supposed to improve but I believe it may be making them worse. Lastly I have little desire to have sexual relations, which is NOT NORMAL. I plan to go off the pill and find a non-invasive form of BC, but my one concern is that I might break out like a 14 year old kid. I am 35--I cant handle that at this stage in life! I would be interested to know what happened to people once they stopped taking Yasmin.

Thanks

I am so glad I found this posting! Hi everyone my names Vanessa..I am 20 years old and was prescribed doxycycline for mild adult acne in Jan..5 months ago...and never knew how much the side effects change someones lives. Experienced: insomnia, nightmares, hot/cold spells, difficulty breathing, paranoid, swollen face and tongue, crying spells, severe mood swings, inability to concentrate, weakness, fatigue, suicidal, shakiness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, irritability, feeling outside of my body.....it wasn't until I started to stop drinking coffee and drinking loads of water and exercising..that I realized it was the doxycycline side effects. I would wake up have a good breakfast....and water....than take the pill and start to get blurred vision...shaky..feel depressed. and confused...than I would start drinking more water and trying to sweat (knowing that water flushes toxins out of your body and sweating) and by 2 ish? the side effects subsided...and I could see clear. Today my first day not taken the pill...and from what I read it takes a few weeks to get it completely out of your system. But I get a kick out of doctors who prescribe all of these medications to people thinking it cures things..not realizing that it really can disrupts someones lives who's sensitive to medication.

I've noticed many of the recent posts for Loestrin have been negative ones. Many are saying don't ever take this pill and that it's bad.
I'm speaking from my experience on this pill. I've been on it for almost 2 years now and have had nothing but a positive reaction to it. In my previous post, I mentioned that I have been on all kinds of bc pills that didn't work for me and it's been over 10 years since taking any kind of bc pill.
I started taking Loestrin in Aug 07 to regulate my period and for my adult acne issues. The first 3 months, I noticed my breast got bigger (a positive for me), my skin cleared up and my periods were lighter and shorter. I do experience PMS right before my period but it's not severe and mild cramping; it's nothing I can't handle.
Also, in order for your body to get use to any bc pill, you have to give it 3 months (according to my doctor).
I know 2 other woman who have been on this pill for over a year now and they have positive feedback about it.
I understand that this pill is NOT for everybody. But I have had a great experience being on it. I recommend this bc pill to any woman out there who is considering taking Loestrin. Try it out for yourself and give your body some time to adjust to it.

I thought that all the problems I've had the last 3 months that I've been on Yaz were unrelated....I thought between stress, IBS, my job as a teacher, and being a single mother, that all my problems are just stress. I've been on the pill for three months. I am taking the pill to help with adult acne and mood swings. I really think that it has helped both of those things. However, the last month I have noticed some symptoms and I think that maybe I can tie them all to yaz???? Here's the list:
Headaches
Weight gain
Muscle cramps
Extreme GI problems (worse than my normal IBS)
Blanking out (short time frames where I do weird things and I don't remember them). Is this a symptom? I haven't read about this one. I'm scared to death I have some mental disease or something! Anyone else have this problem? I am so scared that I've lost my mind and have gone crazy.
Night mares
Anxiety
Panic attacks (I think)
Abnormal heart beat

I've played the birth control pill game and tried many different bc pills in my younger days. I tried Nordette, Ortho-cyclen, Ortho-tri-cylcen and Mircette. None of them worked well with me so I stopped taking bc pills all together.
It's been almost 10 yrs since I've taken bc pills and I started taking Loestrin 24 Fe about 2 years ago to regulate my period and for my adult acne issues. I have been on it ever since. After the first pack, I noticed my breast grew bigger (which is a plus for me). After the second pack, my skin cleared dramatically and after the third pack my periods became lighter and only lasted 3 days. I do experience PMS a week before my period but nothing I can't handle and it's not severe.
I have NOT experienced any bad mood swings, nausea or headaches. This bc pill is not for everybody BUT it has worked great for me and a few of my girlfriends are on it as well and have nothing but positive feedback to give.
I've been taking Loestrin 24 Fe for almost 2 yrs and since then, my boobs are bigger, my skin is clear and my periods are lighter and shorter. Overall, I give Loestrin 2 thumbs up!

I started taking YAZ about about 5 months. The biggest side effect I notice is SEVERE migraines 2 days before my period starts. I am a speech therapist and found it almost debilitating to try to work with my clients today because my head was pounding out of my head. I was also experiencing some blurry vision while driving (not good). On the bright side my adult acne has cleared up and periods have shortened by about 5 days. Regardless, I've decided that if something inflicts head pounding migraines then it is not worth it. I'm going to drop birth control for good as I haven't found any that I like at the age of 37.

I have had mine now for almost 5 years. I have had adult acne the whole time and never ever had it as a teen! I feel bloated as well all the time and I have zero sex drive and when I do have sex it is painful. I also can relate to other women who have posted on here and mentioned that they did not feel fresh down there. That is something that constantly bothers me. I used to think maybe I had BV or something going on and would go in and it would turn out to be nothing. I cannot wait to get this thing out. After reading all these post I have made up my mind. This is coming out ASAP.

I am new on here and am so thankful to have found this site and read other stories. I am only 2.5 weeks into my first course evr of Yasmin and can't believe what it's doing to me. I predominantly went on it to try and fix my adult acne, but so far my skin is getting worse and worse, so much so that I don't even want to leave the house! I'm 31 and it's so embarrassing and hurtful suffering like this. But, I'm definitely going to throw away the remaining Yasmin tonight, as my mood swings!!! Unbelievable, I'm a very level headed, calm, friendly happy person and for the last 2 weeks I have done nothing but cry and cry for no reason what so ever and bite at all my friends. It's a horrible horrible drug. I just really hope I can find something out there to help my acne. Any advice would be more than appreciated.

Started Januvia about 7 months ago. Have noticed increasingly blurred vision (not sure if I am just developing long sightedness though - I'm 41), some disrupted sleep patterns, adult acne breakouts and they take forever to heal (which I never had a problem with before), slow healing of small cuts on fingers and with the slow healing, scars are obvious. After reading all the posts here, I am determined to check with the doctor to consider taking off Januvia altogether...not willing to risk more exposure. Exercise and diet will help enough with Glucobay as before.

Hi.
I was on Yasmin for about 9 months and stopped taking it about a year ago. I had been on a few other pills in the past while in college and always had problems. When I was given Yasmin it was after an abortion and my doctor and I agreed that maybe it was time to give Birth Control one more chance. Since I had had such a bad time with the pill in the past we went with a low dosage (Yasmin).
I have always had great skin but around 22 I started to have adult acne... mostly attributed to the high level of stress I am always under with work and all. Yasmin worked great in getting my skin back on track, my periods were definitely shorter and lighter. I have always been prone to terrible cramps and heavy bleeding. The pill was great for the first two months or so. Soon I started to notice that I was gaining wait despite the fact that I eat really well and really don't eat more than I ever did before. I had 0 sex drive to the point that I started finding ways to avoid having sex with my boyfriend....at one point we did not have sex for 2.5 months. He was an angel and never really complained. But I started to have a problem with it. And it seemed I had a problem with just about everything. I was overly emotional and having rage fits and would just pick fights with him and anyone I could get my hands on. I didn't develop out of the blue migraines.... but my headaches became more severe and frequent. While I was feeling this way I knew it was irrational and unprovoked and made little to no sense but I just couldn't stop. I felt like it wasn't me anymore. I didn't understand the things that I was feeling. I was reacting and behaving in a way that was just uncharacteristic of me. And then I also started spotting every month towards the end.
One day I just decided... I had to stop right away. But I was worried about going off of the pill. I switched to something else and that switch made me feel even worst and I just couldn't deal anymore. I had to be free of these awful feelings.
At first I felt better right away. My period was still lighter and less painful than it had been before Yasmin. It was as if I had never been on Yasmin at all. I lost 15 pounds right away and have kept them off.
About three months after I stopped my periods became painful again (I expected this would eventually return).... but worst... I started getting my periods really late. In June it was two weeks late. I took so many pregnancy tests that all were negative but still my period would not come. I called my doctor and she said it was probably the heat. Apparently this happens to some women in the summer when its too hot. But I am indoors all day at work so it just didn't make sense. Then July... same thing... two weeks late.... August same thing. but exactly two weeks. ( I always get it on a Sunday after being on the pill)
Then September... it was only a week late so I thought Oh! maybe I am getting back on track. mind you this whole time I am ovulating on time... so I am PMSing for a really long time. Then October roles around and I'm two weeks late again... and November only a week and four days late... got it on a Thursday night out with friends.
Now I don't know if this has anything at all to do with the fact that I was on Yasmin. It might be totally unrelated.. but since no one had mentioned it I just wanted to ask if anyone had experienced anything like it?

I had been on Yaz for one year and loved it for the most part. I didn't gain weight, my adult acne cleared, and my periods were very light. However, right the week before my period I would become depressed. My gyno found a very large cyst on one of my ovaries and told me that I should not have one that large while being on birth control. She told me Yaz was not right for me and I could not longer take it. I begged her to prescribe me Yasmin, she said NO. She thought Loestrin would be the best, so she put me on Loestrin 24 for 6 weeks to see if it shrinks, if it doesn't she will remove it. I have only been on Loestrin for 5 days and it has completely turned my world upside down! I have no sex drive, dryness down there, my face is breaking out, and I have been super down. I hate it!!!!! I hope that when I go back for a re-check that my cyst is still there so she can see that Loestrin is not right for me! I hate being on birth control and would love to stop taking any form of it, but it looks like my body cant regulate it's self, I just hope I can find a birth control that is right for me. Good luck everyone with Loestrin and if you find a birth control that works let me know! Take care.

Hello, I started taking 100mgs twice a day three weeks ago for severe acne on my back and shoulders. (I am 40 have adult acne or back acne that never goes away) I just wanted to mention though that all of a sudden I noticed DEPRESSION and it took me awhile to realize that the Doxycycline was the only thing that was new. I have had bad depression before and am very familiar with it but it was completely gone. So, I am happy to see that maybe this med has caused others to get depression too. The nausea is nothing compared to mood disorders. My doctor said to stop taking it.

I just started my third week on Femcom and I only have one side effect. Tender breast. EXTREMELY tender breast! They hurt so bad that I feel like I've been getting purple-nurples everyday for a month! I asked my doctor to give me something for my hormones b/c I started having "adult" acne. I've always had a 3 1/2 day period. Very uneventful. No cramps. For some reason my forehead breaks out terribly during ovulation and I'm experiencing bumps that I didn't even get as a teenager. My doctor prescribed Femcon and told me this should help regulate my hormones overall. Unlike some of you who are having major problems w/ Femcon, I'm not. I'm going to stay on the pill and hope my body adjust and gets rid of this acne issue. Hope the best for you all.

OMG! I thought I was losing it. Have had the Mirena since April and have gained weight (an entire dress size) for NO REASON, been foggy, moody, no sex drive, joint pains, cramps, etc.I thought I was alone, Did I mention EXHAUSTED all the time and acne on my face and back-sever enough to get antibiotics from the dermatologist?
I also suffer with PCOS--does anyoen else on the Mirena suffer with PCOS? Would be interested to see how it has affected you. Tried BC pills and after awhile they stopped working then switched to the YAZ--DO NOT GO THERE--the worst Pill ever--so not many options for those of us with PCOS. Just can't wait to go to the DR and get this thing out.

I have had all three of my Gardasil shots, starting in September 2007, November 2007 and then February 2008. I felt slightly ill after each one, came down with what felt like the flu but went away after a couple of days. My periods changed completely however. I'm 24 and have regular, monthly menstruation since I was 10, without a change in flow or length of the period. Since taking the vaccination, I had terrible cramps, delayed periods, and very heavy flow for the six months and a few months after that. Since then, my period has become very light and irregular and I have started growing abnormally dark facial hair as well increased hair growth overall (hirsutism). My skin has become very thin and breaks and bruises easily, and I have developed adult acne which I never had as a teenager. I don't have PCOS so I'm not sure if the two are linked, but nothing else has changed in my lifestyle over the past year so please do let me know if you have experienced anything similar.

It is so funny to read all of the negativity but nothing positive! I came here looking for side effects and get a bashing about how horrid Yasmin/Yaz is! Let me first start off by listing my side effects that I wanted to know about:

breast tenderness
change in appetite
tiredness
red spot in eye

Next, let me tell you that I researched BEFORE taking this medicine because 1. I have MS 2. I suffer from migraines and seizures and 3. I take a whole boat load of medications! My doc recommended Yasmin for PMDD coupled with Sarafem to help my mood right before and during my time of the month. I must say that I have only been on it for about 10 days so I do not know anything of how it works with my period.

I am APPALLED at the fact that there are few, if any, positive comments about this pill! I know for a FACT that it works because I know 7 people personally that are on it that have NO PROBLEMS! So, I ask you all that have negative comments, what is wrong with you, other than you HATE the pill? What OTHER meds were you on while taking it? I read a few comments about stopping for a month and then starting again and then wondering why they felt like crap?? Well HELLO?! You are effing with your body's hormones! And there is a difference between Yaz and Yasmin hormones. If you had a bad experience with Yaz, make sure you are not confusing it with Yasmin! Yaz is a 24 day hormone pill where Yasmin is only 21 days.

I am not a doctor, but like I said, I have done my research. I have suffered with adult acne and PMDD for years. It sucks. If Yasmin helps, I want to know. I don't want to read a bunch of bull about people who mess up their cycles by taking the pill and smoking or taking the pill with meds they shouldn't be taking them with. I know what I can and cannot take. Most of what I take is natural and what is not, well, it CAN be taken with Yasmin. Like the website for Yasmin says and like most of the informational, non-biased websites say, Yasmin and Yaz is not for everyone. Some people cannot handle this type of hormone.

I can guarantee you that some doctor or pharm company can tell you that whatever symptom you are having is from something completely unrelated to the BC you are taking. Warnings are clearly marked...read them and obey!

Please let me know if a class-action lawsuit is ever filed against this Pharm Co because I will file a suit to get this dangerous drug off the market. Yasmin/Yaz almost took my life in January 08. My OB/GYN put me on Yaz in Oct 07 for bad periods and cysts on my overies. Within a month my entire personality changed and I started losing my hair. I experienced a complete loss of sex drive, became depressed and was either constanting crying or raging at someone. However, my adult acne did clear up. On 1/27/08 I experienced extreme pain in my calf that moved up to my thigh within 48 hrs. I went to the ER and was told that no only did I a condition called DVT (Deep Vein Thrombisis-blood clot) in my leg but that the clot had broken off and moved into both of my lungs and I had bi-lateral pulmonary embolism. I can't even describe how incredibly painful this was. I was admitted into the hospital for 1 week and was put on powerful blood thinners, which I will be on for about a year. It's now been nearly 6 months since I was diagnosed and the DVT and it is still in my uppper thigh. But am grateful to be alive. If you would like to contact me I would be glad to answer any questions regarding this situation and my email addy is ****** PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YAZ OR YASMIN OR LET ANYONE IN YOUR FAMILY TAKE THIS MED, IT COULD KILL YOU.

Hi
After reading this forum, I found my answers!!
I was diagnosed with endometriosis about 7 years ago and have been on a provera tablet which my doctor recently advised that I need to come off. We have been talking about a IUD but until then I decided I would start taking a pill to see how I go. I have started to get adult acne so my doctor thought Yasmin would be the best pill for me. So I started taking yasmin about 3 weeks ago.
I have slipped into a massive pit of depression, thoughts about death, not eating, vomiting, crying all the time (i recently had to leave work early because I couldn't stop crying), , headaches, fighting with my friends and family, being completly irrational.
All this happened so fast I didn't know what was wrong. I honestly thought I was going crazy and yesterday I ready to check myself into a clinic. I've never been on a pill before and a friend of mine came to my rescue yesterday and suggested it could be my pill. After reading all these, I know now it is my pill. I have never been like this before in my life and I hate feeling like this. I am coming off it today! No more.

i am amazed that doxycycline has given the SAME EXACT problems to other people. i never had side effects to any medication i ever took up until this point. I was on them for a week and on the 2 final nights I too took them right before sleeping and developed a case of esophigitis. I cant eat or sleep because it feels like i'm swallowing lumps that land in my stomach and burn. Even breathing ends up as burping that feels like its on fire. My throat feels swollen and eating solids is torture. Ive been so depressed over this, it makes me want to cry and not go to work because my head feels like i'm in a cloud. Past 24 hours i developed a fever and pain in the jaw/temple area but that might just be a flu going around. So i called the doctor who prescribed them to me for adult acne and says "you weren't supposed to take them before bed, sounds like you have esophagitis". Nice of him to tell me this prior to starting this medication. Im so worried these have caused permanent damage to my stomach that i'm going to suffer with forever. Have these symptoms gone away for anyone, and what helped you get through it if it has? also, how long? Maalox, Pepcid, and over the counter heartburn remedies dont seem to help. all i know is, doxycycline is the wrost drug ever and needs to be retired ASAP!

I am a 30 year old female and have had asthma since I was 3 years old. For years I struggled with it, having to always have an inhaler on hand everywhere I went. About 4 years ago by the prescription of my pulmonary doctor I started taking singulair and advair once a day (before bed) The one thing that I have noticed that concerns me a bit, is that when I miss even one day of the medication (due to my forgetfulness in refilling) my asthma will be worse then before I even started the medication. So it's like I'm dependently addicted to it, which is really scary. Just one day off of it and I have to use my albuterol inhaler at least 5 times a day and I can't even get out of bed sometimes.

The other thing that I noticed was my complexion changed. I have been to several dermatologists who either think I have a mild rosacea, mild acne rosacea or a mild adult acne. I have never had a problem with my skin, it was always clear. However now it is just so tempermental. I recently asked an internal medicine doctor who doesn't seem to feel that there is any link between singulair and skin problems but thought that perhaps it was the advair.

I also have experienced strange mood shifts that sort of go back to the time I started the medication. I fight a lot more with my husband and just feel very anxious, fearfull, reclusive, depressed. I feel like another poster, that everything is going to go wrong, or is always wrong. I'll have extreme anxiety about small everyday things. I am an actress living in LA. I have a commercial agent and was quite active in auditioning but this has dwindled as the years have passed.
Is all this due to the medication? I cannot say obviously, and like another poster said, you can't attribute side effects that some people have had to all the millions of people that must take this medication. And, it is true that during studies conducted of medications anything that someone experiences has to be listed as a side effect. I was taking a medication for my possible ADD symptoms, concerta, and one of the side effects is "Accidental Injury" what does that even mean! I asked my doctor about it and he told me, that if someone so much as accidentally bumped into a table or tripped during the study it would have to be listed as possibly being associated with the medication. It's a legal thing I'm sure.

But in any event who's to say that it isn't causing these symptoms. I certainly hope that it doesn't. I can only vouch for my physical symptoms for sure. I know whether or not I can breath or not and that it's due to not taking the medication since being on it is like I don't even have asthma. But as for the emotional stuff, they are just that emotional and there are many other things in peoples lives that could be contributing factors. The greatest test would be to stop taking the medication to see if the emotional symptoms improve.

My concern was the "Acne" and horrible scarring that has left its mark.I had the mirena removed about a month ago but the acne has worsened. I feel like a freak... I never had acne in my life and now at the ripe age of 30 i am embarrassed to leave the house because of it. Its huge and looks like boils on my face. Please help with advice as to what i can do. I do not want to be stuck with this freaking ACNE!!!!
