Has anyone experienced excessive weight gain using Januvia? About 13 months ago I started taking J. and I've not lost any weight since that time. I had Lap-band surgery 19 months ago lost 58 lbs the first 7 months, started the Januvia, had what I thought was Lap-band problems, gained a few pounds and the few pounds are now a plus 40. I've spoken to a pharmacist and he says there cannot be any connection to Januvia, however I've begun to question Januvia as the advertisements on TV state that Januvia has not been tested with insulin and I'm taking Lantus at night and Januvia in AM. Januvia can be used with insulin at the description of the Doctor???? I'm very concerned about myself and Januvia. Any comments 2bears

Hi all,
I am 27 and I have been on Yasmin for about 5 months now. Initially the doctor put me on it for depression/anxiety and moodswings. Apparently the constant dose of hormones (especially progesterone) helps your body control emotions and moods. And even in Singapore, there has been a LOT of advertisements on this drug and i know many of my friends are on it too. THe doctors here are huge advocates of this drug.
In the first 3 months of being on the pill, i had really bad side effects - ranging from sore breasts to chest pain to insomnia. But the last two months have been relatively symptom free. Infact, I have lost weight and my skin looks great! My boyfriend and parents claim that my mood is more stable and I am more confident.
But for some reason after reading all these posts about how for some women the nightmare continues even after stopping the pill, I am so scared to stop it!! Do you guys have any idea how long the symptoms continue after stopping the pill??

I TOOK LIPIITOR ABOUT 8 YEARS AGO. I HAD THE CLASSIC SIDE EFFECTS WHICH ARE NOW ACKNOWLEDGED. MUSCLE WEAKNESS, JOINT PAIN, TIREDNESS, TREMBLING AT ANY TIME I PICKED UP EVEN A CUP OF COFFEE. I WENT THROUGH EVERY NEUROLOGICAL TEST, ARTHRITIS TEST, ALLERGY TEST, EVEN TESTING FOR BONE TUMORS AND OTHER CANCERS. I ONLY TOOK THIS MEDICATION ABOUT ONE YEAR BEFORE THE GENERAL PRACTITIONER I WAS SEEING DECIDED MAYBE THE LIPITOR WAS TO BLAME. EVEN THOUGH I HAVE BEEN OFF THE MEDICATION 7 OR MORE YEARS, I STILL HAVE ALL THESESYMPTOMS. AT TIMES IT IS WORSE THAN OTHERS, BUT NEVER GOES AWAY. IS THERE ANY HELP FOR US WHO ARE VICTIMS OF THESE "RARE BUT SERIOUS" SIDE EFFECTS WHICH LIPITOR IS NOW INCLUDING IN THEIR ADVERTISEMENTS?

Do cholesterol lowering drugs do any good? Thats a good question considering the debilitating side effects everyone here is complaining about.

Not exactly. The advertisements boast what is called relative risk reduction. The absolute risk reduction is what counts and is less than 1% on most statins. So how did lipitor do on prevention of events? Here is the bottom line: If you are a middle aged male, 100 MEN will have to take lipitor for 3.3 years to prevent one MAN from a heart attack or stroke. WOW! You have to treat 100 guys for over 3 years in order for one guy to benefit.
