Started taking lisinopril in June/05. Didn't realize it until a few days ago, but I have been experiencing unsual joint pain and muscle weakness for about 3-4 months now. I just happened to read the patient advisory leaflet that came with my mail order prescription and I noticed that I should call my doctor as soon as possible if i was feeling unusual joint pain. Lately I have been waking up to severe joint pain in almost every joint in my body, fingers, toes, tops of feet, ankle, knees, elbows, shoulders, and muscle pain in the forearms and calves. I feel as if I am 75 years old. I can't hardly get out of bed I am so stiff. Since I coudlnt get in to see my doctor until early March I decided to take myself off the medication. I am also taking ziac for high blood pressure. It can't be very good for my body to continue to suffer from so much joint pain. Anyone else have similar symptoms?

I had no idea an antibiotic could cause such side effects until I visited this site. I have taken Levaquin twice in the past 2 months for chronic sinusitis. First time for 10 days (250 mg) and then couple of weeks later for 21 days (500 mg). I don't think it is gone yet. I complained to my husband of extreme joint pain, pain in my ankles and extreme fatigue. He said I bet it is that antibiotic you are taking and I just kind of brushed him off. However, when I mentioned it to a friend who has had many sinus problems she said I better check it out on the Internet. Sure enough I see others who have had similar problems. I work nights so I do have different sleep patterns but have never been one to require a lot of sleep but lately I can't seem to get enough sleep. I have not taken it for about 5 to8 days and wonder when my symptoms will start to go away.
I, too, am allergic to penicillin and sulfa so have tried many different antibiotics but never had a reaction like this. It is horrible to have this much pain. I will definitely be telling my doctor about my reaction to this antibiotic. I, too, was never given any warning about the possible reactions to this but was told not to take it with other products like calcium. My patient advisory leaflet did mention to advise my doctor if I had tendon, joint or muscle pain but I didn't make the connection of this type pain. Guess I should have been smarter.

THANK YOU ALL for posting!!!
I've had chronic bronchitis attacks three months in a row now, and now suspicion of pneumonia on top of it. I had a feeling something wasn't quite right when my doctor said, "Let's pull out the 'big guns'" and prescribed Levaquin, but the pharmacy's patient advisory leaflet only mentioned a few innocuous side effects. I picked up some guaifenisen and ibuprofen at the pharmacy at the same time.
Get home, pop a few ibuprofens for pain in my diaphragm from coughing so much, make dinner, take my first levaquin with dinner as prescribed. After dinner, infojunkie that I am, I search for more about this stuff, and found your and other boards. Thank goodness!
It's too late to stop those ibuprofen, but I know not to take any more for the next four days of levaquin treatment (should I wait longer?). I also know not to have caffeine and to drink lots of water, which won't be a problem, and to discontinue use if any of those serious side effects occur (thanks for nothin', patient advisory leaflet).
I'm going to be very guarded in my taking of this medicine thanks to your posts. I really need to be able to breathe better; I'll keep you posted!
