I started taking Zoloft in Aug 2007 because I could not get sleep at night...tossing and turning - thinking about all the stuff I had to do the next day. Within a few weeks - that was so much better - my moods were better - and my performance at my profession was better because I could actually relax at night. I had lost all the anxiety that I have had all my life - and couldn't believe that there was something out there that could help me so much. I, at the time, would never in a million years think about stopping this medication. HOWEVER, fast forward to Nov 2008 - the zoloft is still working great - but my sex life with my husband is so bad that it is more like work for both of us...and reaching orgasm was almost nearly impossible. I just didn't desire sex...which is highly unusual for me. These affects of the med increased over time - and I was willing to deal with them - but the thing that changed my mind about it all was my weight gain. I chose to take Zoloft because it had the least chance of weight gain...or so I thought. I had gained 30 pounds since I started taking it. I wasn't working out as much - and so I thought that was it...but when the scale hit 200 - and then 210...on a frame that should be no more than 140 (I was a bit overweight when I started it) I freaked out. I had been working out and eating really well for three months, no alcohol - no extra hidden calories - to the 210 mark - and I had gained weight during that time. I was talking to my doctor one day and out of the blue complained that I had gained so much weight and it was really starting to bother me. He said, "oh yeah, that can happen on ssri's - in some people they can pretty much almost shut down your metabolism". I was in shock...he knew my struggle with weight to begin with - and here - now a year and some later told me this. Needless to say - I felt betrayed, but was then determined to get off zoloft. And so I have been with his help..and it has been one of the hardest things I have ever done...and I am still working on it. It has been two months and I am slowly weening off. I was on 100mg per day - and dropped to 50mg, and now I am taking 25...I get dizzy, the mood swings are awful...AWFUL - but I am doing it...and I will not ever take zoloft again. I never realized how addictive this med was - and just how much it affected me until getting off of it. However, the one thing that I have found to help with the withdrawal symptoms - even the dizziness is working out. It has been my saviour.
Just thought I would pass this along. The honeymoon period is great with Zoloft - it is when you see your body out of control that puts it all into perspective. Every person's body is different, but if you notice that you are gaining weight for no reason - and can't seem to lose it - tell your doctor. There are other drugs out there to help with symptoms that zoloft relieves that do not cause all these side effects...the ssri's just tend to work more efficiently. For all those with decreased sex drive - wellbutrin does not affect this or weight...but isn't as good about sleep.

Another update:
I had my 2nd Mirena in for 14 months and had it removed Valentines day.. 12 days ago. In the first 5 days my energy is back to normal.. if not above, my mood is euphoric compared to angry and sad all the time.. joint pains are gone. My appetite is half of what is was and I'm not craving junk food and chocolate anymore. i used to hide in the pantry and eat peanut butter & chocolate chips most of the afternoons. Since the Mirena was removed, I've lost 5 pounds! My sex drive was nil for the last 3 years (with 2 pregnancies and 2 mirenas) and now I make my husband come home early for an afternooner, and today i needed it twice! No more dryness.. exactly the opposite. Can throw out the lube..lol. Never needed it before Mirena and don't anymore. I fell out of love with my husband when we were married in 2005 and have been angry with him and unattracted to him since. The last few days, I just look at him and I get turned on. I can't believe we payed thousands of dollars on marriage counselling, and our biggest problem was this stupid IUD! I'm so happy to be alive again!
I owe it to everyone here who has shared their stories.

Was previously on Micardis HCT; dr. switched to generic Lisinopril HCTZ 12.5 in 11/07 when I went on Medicare & was concerned about cost of Micardis. Since that time I've put on 10 lbs. and had increased pain/muscle fatigue and general lethargy. Unusual, as I've exercised 4-5 days per wk. (incl. aerobics/strength trng/flexibility.) for 20+ yrs. Also, frequently, have problems swallowing pills due to feeling of obstruction in esaphogus tube. In July '08 I awakened to slight numbness/tingling in lips and my lips then proceeded to the swell to the point of pain and my lips (in profile) protruded further than my nose. I received steroid injection and prescription for steroid pack. Diagnosis was possible allergic reaction to new cosmetic product. Today (9/3/08) I woke up with the same symptoms and again had to go to the dr.for a steroid injection & meds. Diagnosis this time (different dr.) was possible side effects of "blood pressure meds." Has anyone else experienced edema of the lips, wt. gain, and problems swallowing?

i started Zoloft on 2/7 (25mg), on 2/22 i started the full dose (50mg). i couldn't sense any changes during the time i was on 1/2, but as soon as i started the full dose the following occurred: very tired/groggy, especially in the afternoons, at bedtime i was very sleepy and on weekends with no alarm slept 12 hours every night! (my normal is 7-8 hours a night). i am not as regular as i usually am. i started feeling itchy on my whole body a few times, and a few days ago my palms started itching like mad. i visited my doctor yesterday and we decided to go back to 1/2 of the dose for a week and then stop - i started on Wellbutrin today, we'll see how that goes.

This is odd to read all of these. I'm getting the exact opposite effects. I have a mood disorder which consists of depression and anxiety. I take 5mg Lexapro antidepressant for this. In the past 4 days I've been taking 200mg daily Doxycycline for sinusitis and noticed that I do not feel at all sleepy by bedtime. I notice that I am energetic, a bit too much, during the day, and food does not taste and smell like it usually does. I feel a bit too energetic and even a glass of wine in the evening doesn't seem to help me relax.
I can take this medicine on an empty stomach with no problems. I just noticed that I have lots of energy. I can't complain, as I'm only going to be taking this antibiotic for ten days. I usually have to take a nap in the afternoons on many days. Not anymore.

I noticed within days that it had an effect on my behavior such that I found usual emotional aggravations (like being cut off while driving) suddenly did not bother me. I subsequently found out that lisinopril binds to Testosterone and mine was low to begin with and with the lisinopril effect I had a really low testosterone requiring supplementation.
I started taking Lisinopril about a year ago. I have had no cough or joint pain, but fatigue is severe, even if I get enough sleep. Some afternoons I find it almost impossible to stay awake. I will repost some time after stopping it.

I am glad I am not alone with this issue . I have experienced most if not all the side effects. It would be impossible to be employed in any activity under these conditions.I changed the timing of to afternoons after I ate and it helped a little.I,ll go to night time this week end see what happens.
-- By allinone | Reply | Private Message meIt did drop b/p fast, but the effects are just to much.Doctor said to stay out of sun wear hat etc.I thought my arms were dying, shoulder joint pain ,having to stop while shopping to catch up with spells light headedness, head aches, numbness all over, and bad concentration.I am on 20 mg pink round lisinopril.
