I've been on Advair for a little over 35 days. I started to notice a swelling or feeling of sores or loose skin in my mouth or lips. Then I started getting a pain and burning in both the nipples of my breast. I am going to stop taking it to see if both symptoms go away. Come Monday I'll call my doctor.

I am a loving mother of a 5 1/2 year old boy. He has been on Singulair for over 3 years. In this past 3 years my son has suffered in an unspeakable amount. He came down with Rota Virus and was hospitalized at 2. He then came in contact with Pneumonia in the hospital while he was there. They automatically put him on Singulair, Zyrtec, Prednisone, and antibiotics to treat the pneumonia. Since that day, my son has gone though more tests than I have in my entire life. He has had asthma, sinusitis, leg cramping ( to the point he cannot walk for 2 years), IBS, Acid reflux,(they gave him laxatives for a year that made things worse and addicted to them also), stomach pain, constipation and diarrhea back and forth. He also got Erythema Mulitforme TWICE, while on this drug. All of which the doctors said could NOT be caused by Singulair. He has had several Upper GI's and CT scans. Along with Barium enemas, several hundreds of blood tests, and many many pokes and prodded that were not necessary. All since he has been on Singulair. He now has frequent bathroom trips, depression, confusion, and anger outbursts. He also has to go to the restroom every 5 minutes. He has had genital swelling, and many other aches and pains. None of which his "doctor" ever said could be a result of Singulair. I am 100% sure it was!!!! He currently has anxiety and emotional sporadic issues causing problems in school The teachers and counselors say that it is so strange because there is no TRIGGER and the outbursts are completely inconsistent. His preschool teacher and director are sure he has ADHD. Well, we had him tested and he does not have any part of it. He has no learning disability what-so-ever. So that brought me back to square one. He is in a positive loving enviroment. How could he be depressed and want to hurt everyone around him? He cannot sit still. He cries and says he is 'stupid" and "can't think" like the other boys. He has nightmares and cannot sleep alone. He is scared of everyone and everything. So, as I sit here crying, I realized that this has all been a reaction of his "medicine" Singulair. He never should have gone through all of those painful tests, only to prove they couldn't find anything. So many treatments and sound full advice speeches from his doctors. How could they be so naive and selfish in the life of my son?

When I called my pediatrician of 5 years, she told me that " parents that have children with behavioral problems will LOOK for something to blame their problems on." She also said "drug companies only put side effects on their labels to PROTECT the drug companies. (as she laughed at me) They are not always valid". Then she said "if you take you child off of Singulair you will be playing Russian Roulette in his life." Then she said that all children around 5 or 6 go though this emotional time in their lives." She told me that if I take my child off of Singulair that she would no longer be a part of his health regimen for his asthma. She told me to see a Pulmonologist for further treatment.
Who is paying who? This is my son's life???????? I decided to go with my mother-gut instinct and get him off of this medicine. No matter what. He has been a different person since. He is currently going though a lot of side effects and withdrawals (leg pain, insomnia, hic-ups, emotional distress) but every day is getting better. How can the drug companies say that this is a "wonder drug?" There are more reported side effected patients then clinical studied patients! How can a "medication" that stimulates the brain not be connected to other problems? This "medication" interferes with the bio synthesis and action of LTs and has been marketed as NOVEL medication against asthma and allergic rhinitis. Who the hell is playing God here??? The pocket books of Merck or our over PAID "doctors?" Who pays the price? Our children? Or us. Thank god I found this before it was too late. I would not be able to withstand the pain of losing my son due to their lack of scientific evidence. They are lucky I am one of the smart ones. I will not settle for less than Justice for the drug companies and their paid "doctors?" You all end up in the same place. HELL

There are 18 million people on this drug. Most of them are children. Please save a life if not your own child's life. Thank You

Wow, I got on the internet this morning looking got side effects of advair b/c I mail ordered my script so i've been without for a few days. i have been experiencing severe neck pain, thought I slept on my neck wrong, but it's still here after 3 days. I have been on Advair 100/50 for 6 years, and have now worn glasses for 3 years, on nerve blocker medication for neck and shoulder pain, horrible heart palpitations, but I've never thought these things related to the Advair until recently. I've been asthmatic all my life and thought Advair was a lifesaver, but always had some concerns. I knew any medication could not be safe for life, and after 6 years. I'm really starting to pay a price.

I can not believe what I'm reading. My 5 year old was also given Singulair to treat asthma/allergies. He began having night terrors that increased in intensity over the past year. I stopped the Singulair on July 1 and the night terrors have reduced greatly. I am concerned about his asthma though. He has a consistent cough at night and I feel like he needs some type of treatment. Any suggestions?

I have just tried Advair, and after 4 days, joints all over my body started to ache. My eyes hurt alot and my vision got blurry. Lastly, I just have a general feeling of unease. I quit the advair and was much better within 3 more days.
All pain is gone and eyes feel normal again, although my eye sight seems diminished. I took no other drugs and felt fine before taking the Advair.

I am 44 and suffer from mild copd. I can get by with Albuteral, and will do
so from now on. I know that one is safe.

Good luck to all.

While on Advair 50/250 for 9-10 years, I had increased mucus coming up my throat. Constantly having clear my throat or coughing. More and more the mucus was thickening up. I complained about this to my doctor and he took me off Advair.

I am on another inhaler now. Since being off Advair, the mucus has increased, but not as thick. My asthma seems to be worst and I am using my albuterol inhaler more often. My breathing is harder than ever before. I am now constantly coughing with no other cold or flu like symptoms. My lungs are constantly congested. There does not seem to be any other reason.

I get HEADACHES that don't go away. I know this a listed side-efect, but I was given this inhaler the last time I got Bronchitis. The name Albuterol was in the name of the inhaler so I assumed it was like other inhalers I was given when I would get bad Bronchitis (turns out it was Albuteral Sulfate HFA). The Bronchitis I get, happens at least once every 2 years and on down years mabe twice a year or twice every 15 months. I don't smoke, rarely drink, have no medical conditions (including Asthma), and I'm in the fitness industry, so I'm in great shape, eat a damn good diet, etc.. But nothing can overcome, either bad luck or bad genes or certain physical weaknesses. Not sure which it is that makes me so susceptible to Bronchitis, but I have to deal with it quite often it seems. It happens the same way each time - Beginning with a sore throat & stuffy head (no headache just horribly stuffed up) then after 3-5 days the sore thoat goes away and it moves down into my chest to a cough, then in about 48hrs it turns into full-blown Bronchitis where I can't breathe w/o wheezing and eventually coughing - nights are the worst.
So I go to my doctor and am prescribed antibiotics, sometimes narcotic cough syrup (yum) and an inhaler. It was ALWAYS just Albuterol in th past ( I know it was different because there was no 'Sulfate' or 'HFA' in the name and the inhaler looked different (color, length, even the horrible aftertaste it gave - but I knew it worked). With this Albuterol Sulfate HFA inhaler, yes it has a different color, packaging, length etc.. and all together which I would chalk up to no big deal (I'm not a M.D. or Pharmacist, so maybe it's a different company making the same medication). But the addition of 'Sulfate on the end of the name and the missing horrible aftertaste (which I miss only because the previous Albuterol inhalers I recieved worked great and I felt better in hours despite the wretched taste), let me suspect I was given a new inhaler medication. Well I got all better in about 5 days (about 3 more than t usually takes me) and it turns out I was given a different medication because the government seems to think my previous inhaler was for only those with certain medical conditions, was often abused(? news to me, why would somne abuse something that tastes so bad - I guess it got them feeling high - I don't know or care to),
Anyway, this inhaler was also responsible for TERRIBLE HEADACHES ( and I was already sick with a sever cough, congestion, a little fever, sore throat, and lots of yellowish mucus(sorry for the description),. I sure as hell didn't need a horrible headache to follow that, and these would only appear after I used the inhaler (it took me a couple days to figure this out), and they'sd stick around for about 12 hrs. I didn't want to take anymore advil or tylenol than I already was considering the rest of the medicine I was already taking.
So apparently my M.D. could've prescribed me the old Albuterol (I think), but for some reason the government put restrictins on it's distribution, either that or he was very scared to prescribe it. And this was coming from a M.D. who at the same time prescribed 300ml of Vicodin Tuss cough syrup. I know the horror stories of Vicodin, and I didn't even come close to sing all that cough syrup.
I just can't help but wonder why the previous Albuterol inhaler that helped so well over the years suddenly has a problem with the AMA or DEA or one of those agencies. This was the same type of inaler that worked well for my Bronchitis - and I'm sure thousands of other patients - over the past several years.) Again, I usually get it once a year, and go to the same M.D. who prescribes me the same Antibiotic, Cough syrup, and inhaler).
Whatever the case, I plan on politely asking my M.D. the next time I'm in there, but I've read quite a bit about Albuterol's sudden problems with dispensing now that this SulfateHFA has come along.
Well... WARNING: It will give you HORRIBLE HEADACHES and according to the post above me, it might even give you BRONCHITIS!!! The same stuff I was prescibed it to get rid of. This is just a microchosim of a microchosim of what is wrong with our government - in particular the Health Care industry. Find something that works.... might as well get rid of it, because a few bad apples are spoiling the bunch.
Imagine what would happen if they stopped using Morphine or Morphine derivitive pankillers just because there is a huge segment of this country's society abusing them? Don't get me wrong, painkiler abuse has become an epidemic in this country and a cousn of mine blew his head off after getting hooked to Oxycontin after severe back surgery, and when the Dr. wouldn't give him anymore for his pain, he went to the streets - a few months later he committed suicide and left behind a wife a baby boy. All due to getting what the Dr's and specialists told him was surgery ( he was a farmer and manual labor, including bending over, was something he did for years - but he had a wife and family to support)on his lower back that was absolutely necessary, and he was told it would give him a pain free life from then on and he could return to work. So I understand when companies are scared of drug abuse, or use for other than what wa intended. And for the record I'm so happy Oxycontin got their pants sued off for millions of dollars(and on a side note Rudy Guiliani, who wants to be outr next President, lobbyed on behalf of Purdue Pharma (makes of Oxycontin) for lenancy before the criminal sentance came down. And that supposed 'Great Leader' Guliani, knew full well of the misleading info that Purdue gave to Doctors about Oxycontn being a 'safe alternative' to addictive painkillers, and he knew how Purdue spent millions promoting Oxycontn's 'almost non-existant potential for abuse,' even after all these overdoses, addictions, and suicides that have been blamed on the drug. Yet due to his stake in the stock and his close position with Purdue's CEOs, even after everything, after Oxy's horror stories and addiction potential was fully known, and after thousands have either died or become addicted to this drug, and even after Purdue Pharma was found GUILTY in a Criminal Caseof misleading the Public(including Doctors) in the abusive potential of what has become one of the most abused drug in decades, Oxycontin, Rudy Guliani still got up in front of a judge in court to ask for leniency in his punishment of Purdue Pharma.
But is Albuterol Oxycontin - I don't think so.
If you are prescibes Albuterol Sulfate HFA - ask for something else, the side effects can hurt an already bad situation and there is already a different inhaler out there with Albuterol that works like a charm. And it certainly isn't addictive as a dirivite of morphine and heroin - like Oxycontin.

I have what's known as cough equivalent asthma--on set as an adult. this is my first attack in about 3 years. I'm very unhappy with the Advair--the heart beating so quickly, the nausea and to top it all off IT'S NOT WORKING and neither is the albuterol. Today is my last day for the Advair. It's not even controlling my cough for minutes let alone hours or days. I'm losing my voice and will lose my part-time job because I don't have a voice. I can't hold a conversation without coughing it's making me dizzy and I'm tired because I can't sleep.

OMG!! I thought I was losing my mind untiil I read a post here with my symptoms. Sensations of heat and cold at the same time. Very cold and body temp below 97 degrees. Have been on Advair 250/50 for about 2 years. Shortly afterwards, started having low thyroid and hard to maintain weight. Used to be on Albuteral, Atrovent and Pulmocort. Have emphysema along with asthma component. It is hard to breathe for about 30 min after taking Advair. Want to go back to my old meds, or at least try something different like Foradil, maybe.

My 3 year old son was prescribed Singulair two weeks ago. He has an unexplained bout of diarrhea, he has been having regular screaming melt downs, irrational fears of random things such as bathtub water, the cat, the doorknob etc.

He became very aggressive and inconsolable at pre-school the other day and I had to come remove him. The teachers were astounded because he has never had that type of behavior and were very concerned. I called the doctor immediately and had my husband do an internet search on Singulair side affects as I drove to the doctor's office.

He will not take this medication ever again. The doctor said she had never seen side affects to this medication. But she said that since his new behavior coincided with taking the medication she switched him to albuteral.

Please be careful with all medication. I have found that many doctors have absolutely no clue about alot of things.

My 4 month old son was given the usual dosage for wheezing, the smallest dosage they had. Obviously it was way too much because after about the 3rd dose throughout the day he was so hyper and moving sporadically, his heart was racing then his eyes started rolling to the back of his head. It was very scary. The doctors decreased the dosage to only a quarter of the vial. Then we decided to just switch to Xopenex. NO side effects/ PARENTS with BABIES and SMALL CHILDREN I highly reccomend using Xopenex instead of Albuterol.!!!!

I had an allergic reaction to lamisil tablets. After an extreme round of skin rash and sores came the wheezing and coughing from bronchial spasms. The doctor prescribed advair and albuteral. I actually got worse! Muscle pain, coughing jags every morning with green mucus, dry cough and general malaise. I looked for warnings with the advair box and found none. I had to go to the internet to find out that this stuff CAUSES bronchitis. It's been 3 months now. Two months of inhaling that junk and one month off. I'm still coughing up green chunks every morning and cough all through the day. There should have been warnings in the box and the doctor should not have prescribed this stuff for me.

I am a 33YO female diagnosed with asthma since 2 years old. I have been through the ringer with every medication known to man to treat asthma. I have tried , ventolin, intal, singular, becatide, blah blah blah!!!. I was a 2 puffs a day , never leave home without it albuteral user. I couldnt dance, run or have "fun" with my husband without an attack. ADVAIR CHANGED MY LIFE. I AM A NEW PERSON. I am living life without my crutch of my albuteral. I NEVER gets attacks except maybe once a year. I am a firefighter and work like I never thought my lungs would let me. I feel like my lungs are soooo much stronger now. HOWEVER, if I do not take my advair I will notice within 12 hours a slight tightness in my chest. I take 250/50 once each night. my doctor prescribed it twice morning and night, but I eventually weened myself down to once a night. I have put weight on, but who cares, I can breath. Hope you all can feel the relief I can from this lifechanging medication. thank you

My son is 9 years old and started on Advair in April of 2004. Thing is, it took us forever to get a diagnosis of "asthma" from the allergists. He spent some time in the hospital as an infant with "croup" - sent us home with a nebulizer and some albuteral - He was a monster while on albuteral! So active that he bounced off the wall. Anyway, as he grew older we had him tested and the skin tests always came back negative. Last time tested was in April 2004 when he showed "slight" allergies to "the usual suspects" - pollens, etc. (but honestly all the spots on his back looked the same to me). Anyway, allergist put him on Advair and things went pretty well over the summer. Now school is back in session and all of a sudden my son is a horrible student - he was tested as gifted in kindergarten - but now he cannot sit still in class - I keep getting notes from the teacher saying he cannot stay focused enough to finish work in class. he is missing recess to get caught up and still bringing work home to finish that he did not finish in class. Homework is a horror! Tonight we started at 5pm and did not finish until 7:30 - Gifted teacher gives me same report - he just can't seem to finish his work. He is driving us nuts! The only thing different is the Advair from last year to this. Could it really be the culprit? I am at my wit's end and very tired of being angry with him. I watch him work and realize he is everywhere in the room except where he is supposed to be - looking at the ceiling - tapping his pencil - walking in circles - having to go to the bathroom - going into some long, involved story that he HAS to tell us - but not on the paper sitting in front of him. When he actually DOES the work it is 100% correct. I am so interested in hearing from other parents with young children on Advair to see if it is just me or if this is a common - or at least feasible - reaction to this medication. You can contact me at kathryn.gritts@lcms.org - be sure in put asthma in the subject line so I know its not SPAM. Thanks so much. I don't know what else to do except have him tested by a psychologist for ADD - but it seems odd that this didn't show up in K thru 2? Thanks!

I'm 28 and just in the past 2 years I've developed some allergies, and just recently got on Advair for breathing difficulty. I had been using my Albuteral, and got irritated having to use it just about every 4 hours. So Advair worked awesome for the first week 1/2 but now it's been two weeks and I'm starting to get bad side effects. The thrush in my throat...even with washing my mouth out thoroughly. Weight gain I just noticed this week, and dizziness, cloudy thinking, headaches, and wondered why my back has been sore when I haven't even done much hard work?? Well, thankfully to this website I know I'm not crazy and ADVAIR is horrible. Tonight i'm convinced and getting off of it. I'm going to try and go a more Holistic route if possible and use my albuterol for the time being. I do wonder like some of you mentioned about kick backs. Makes me sick!!!!!!!! And it's true about the bullying, I go in next tuesday to check on my thrush.....she's not going to like what I have to say!!!!!!!!!! Wish me luck!!!
