I have been doing a trial and error thing w/ all my meds and I suspect that Singulair may be the culprit in my insomnia. Since I went down on Cymbalta, it has helped but last night I did not sleep a wink. I took xanax even and was up all night. Finally got up at 4.

Singulair has some ingredients that are the same as anti-histamines which have always affected my sleep but I have copd and am afraid to not take it.It is supposed to open your airways and I use Advair which has a steroid in it and I have no appetite. I still gain weight even though I'm not eating much.Dont know what to do. jo

I am reading this stuff and find I am very angry with the doctors who don't do the research to see what they are putting into us! I know some who say this is all just overactive parents but I think there is much more to it than that. My 8 year old child has been put on Singulair twice now and I have taken him off both times for what I thought were side effects of this med. After reading all this I know I WAS RIGHT! The first time he broke out in hives and complained of pain on several ocassions. This second time around they told me it couldn't have been the Singulair that caused the reaction and so I tried it again. He took it for 3 weeks before I connected it to constant loose to at worst water stools. He also acted differently and complained of headaches. I will say though his allergies were well in check from this medication and I wish it didn't have the nasty side effects. He finally after almost a month of being off it has normal stools again. The doctor admitted it could take this long to get out of his system. He wanted me to start it again because my child is experiencing the same allergic symptoms that Zyrtec and Flonase don't keep fully under control. Does anyone know how I can stop the stuffy / runny allergy nose with out meds?

I am a 60 year old man who has had allergies and asthma as long as I can remember. I've tried most of the medicines out there at one time or another. I hate the side effects of most asthma meds (especially broncodilator inhalers) and have learned to avoid them and manage my symptoms more through lifestyle (diet, exercise, clean environment) than drugs. I decided to try Singulair starting about 3 months ago to see if it would help with the mild night time chest tightness I would often still experience. I have to say its the best asthma med I've ever taken. I am about 90% free of asthma symptoms, and can sleep through the night without ever waking up with constricted bronchia. I don't use inhalers at all any more. Occasionally (2-3 times a week) I'll take a Claritin if I start to feel allergic symptoms breaking through. The only side effect I've noticed from the Singulair - and I noticed this from day one - is extremely vivid dreams. Luckily, I kind of like this side effect so I'm OK continuing with the Singulair. Also luckily, I've never experienced the aches and pains, weight gain, or other symptoms descibed by others on this site. The one thing I worry about is that this drug may be hard on the liver, as the liver metabolizes it. But since I don't have any symptoms of liver problems, I guess I won't worry too much.

Itching scalp and ears appear to be related to taking Allegra. It began last summer (2002) after starting Allegra for hayfever and allergies, but I didn't make the connection. Didn't take Allegra from approximately November, 2002 until April, 2003, and in hindsight, itch almost totally gone. Started on Allegra again in April 2003 when seasonal allergic symptoms began again. Scalp itch flared up immediately, and I made the connection to Allegra. Has anyone else experienced or reported this side effect?
