I got my mirena put in in nov of 07 after i had my son. i had really light periods after then i bleed for 1 day every 3 months til june of 08 when i bleed lightly for the whole month. then October of 08 they stopped completely and its been sooo great ! but now thats its june 09 my weight no matter how hard i try doesn't seem to go away i don't gain but i don't loose neither. I talk to some of my friends and they agree. Now i was told that its supposed to trick your body into believing your pregnant to make the periods go away but now im not sure but on the other hand i have sooo many pregnancy symptoms but i know im not... i got the wanna eat everything in site, bloating, peeing like crazy. yeast infections that spread up my stomach and when i get it to go away i get to enjoy sex and it comes right back. my friend took water pills and lost like 10 pounds, why would that happen and since a lot of personal issues are based on self image why do we have to deal? i just turned 23 yesterday and i have causal sex with my boyfriend, there are alternative methods that i wouldn't need the IUD.. Im so confused because i really like it but at the same time i have lower back pain, headaches, infections, acne, and sometimes a highly depressive state. now as for acne i took a womens vitamin and cleaned with a deep pore cleanser and that helped a lot. My Sex drive is throu the roof ! its like i cant get enough.. before its like it was a chore and now its i want it all the time. my weight don't change and i joined a gym so wheres my money going ya know. waking up with swollen fingers and hands knowing its all water weight makes me mad ... i don't wanna be subjected to water pills or an extreme diet. The insertion they told me to be on my period but i had just finished it... mine hurt like some cramping because my cervix is small. after i was fine, and my friend said it didn't hurt at all and she was on her period.. sometimes i can feel it during sex and so can my partner but i get some cramping and its over. sooo now im debating on what i want to do cause i would like to get my weight under control and actually feel motivated to do things which i don't anymore. I will make an apt with the doctor thou cause it seems it happens to a lot of people but is supposed to be normal or not caused by mirena ... huh whose not writing down the facts.

I had open heart surgery August 23rd 2006 for a conginital heart defeat (Aortic Valve replaced with mechanical St Jude valve). I wanted a bio valve but Drs insisted I should have the mechanical valve because of my age (45 at the time).

Prior to my heart surgery I was a performer, singer/songwriter/actress/comedianne and I loved what I did. It was my life. Now, after 2+ years post-op and on Warfarin (7.5 mg daily for life) I feel like life has ended and I'm just a walking dead person. The effects I feel daily are as follows...

Dizziness
Severe Headaches
Blurred vision
Memory Loss
Fatigue
Weight Gain
Trouble concentating
Fluttering effect in my head/ears- Hard to explain
Hair loss
Unexplained pains in chest & left side of my body
Unable to sleep well
Tiredness- even when I've done nothing to be tired for
Nausea
Gas & Diarrhea off and on
teeth pain- Like I've drank something very cold
feeling in my head similar to a brain freeze- like you ate ice cream too fast
Night bleeds in my month- wake up with a mouth full of blood daily
What do think, is that enough??

I'm going in tomorrow for a cat scan because the headaches have been so bad they feel I need to be checked for brain tumor and/or internal bleeding. When I tell the Drs I think this is due to Wafarin they pratically laugh in my face as if to say, "Silly silly woman, don't be foolish! We know whats best for you. Remember, we saved your life!" Really? Did you?!

I want nothing more than to get off this rat poison and regain my life, but to do so could mean a stroke or heart attack. I would go under the knife again to have the mechanical valve removed and replaced with a biological valve, but do you think my insurance company (Kieser) would pay for a "silly" thing like that? Right!

Welcome to the greatest country in the world!

I'm going to start a website to help people like us. I want your stories, please send me your info, together we might make a change, what can it hurt to try? Email me ******

I just started taking Toprol XL 50 mg about a week ago. I feel a little confused though on the doctor's judgment. I have a slow pulse (tends to run in the forties) from running a few miles a day and have mild hypotension. I was dizzy, lightheaded, fainted a few times, blurred vision, shortness of breath, chest palpitations and chest pain. My pulse would go from 35 to 170 just by standing and walking ten feet. The doctors determined I have what is known as POTS Disease, even though i suffered some of these symptoms lying down. Although the Toprol is helping with my palpitations and chest pain, it makes my resting heart rate and blood pressure even slower. Doesn't that seem dangerous, seeing as it's already low for even an athlete? My symptoms seem to be remaining the same besides that (which I guess is good seeing as Toprol can cause my symptoms, therefore I thought my dizziness, etc. may get worse). It's causing trouble sleeping, vomiting, cold feet and fingers.

I too have eosinophilia pneumonia and have been on Prednisone for over two years. Doctor told me he had not seen a case of EP since the 1980s but as of last week he has now had five cases of the disease with no explanation as to why. After determining my condition was not parasitic he started me out on 60mg and then I tried to wean myself by dropping 5 mg every two weeks but to no avail. This continued for at least 18 to 24 months until I decided I would try to drop by 2-1/2 mg every four weeks and am now down to, as of today, 5 mg. Walked four miles this afternoon and did experience some wheezing but didn't feel like my lungs were going to explode so I consider this success. Have this wired moon face that makes me look like someone I don't even know but have been pretty lucky to maintain a constant weight with a starvation diet. Am hoping I am able to continue at the 5mg and lose some of these terrible side effects but don't know how long it may take. Last time I was at the doctor's office and in a desperate state, he prescribed (he continues to research all options and some alternative methods to provide relief) Stromectol tablets which is used to treat parasites but is the active ingredient in the treatment of heartworms in animals. Once I determined the side effects did not outweight the potential benefits I took the one dose treatment and maybe, just maybe, it is helping. Only time will tell. Can anyone tell me if the length of time on the treatment is a determining factor for how long the moon face and other symptoms will last.

Hang in there and hopefully we can help each other through.

We believe the following are among the most important shortfalls in the conduct of research involving infants, children and adolescents:

Failure to examine alternative methods of obtaining needed information so that research involving risk for children is minimized. The goal should be to limit the exposure of children to trials that seek vital information that is "unprocurable by other means" - as mandated under the Nuremberg Code and as stipulated in current federal regulations - 45 CFR 46 Subpart D - which restrict the exposure of children to greater than minimal risk. Indeed, until the FDA adopted the "Pediatric Rule" in 1998, high risk, phase I trials in children "had been primarily limited to life threatening diseases and children who had the disease for which the new drug was being proposed." It is difficult to justify a shift in policy that will increase children's exposure to pain and risks of harm.
Inadequate review: failure to evaluate risks relative to existing empirical evidence of harm.
Failure to minimize risks, including psychological risks, or to justify them from the perspective of the child.
Absence of evidence-based guidelines for classifying research protocols "minimal risk," "minor increase over minimal risk," or "greater than minor increase over minimal risk."
There is a pressing need to examine cases that resulted in harm to children - and to draw policy recommendations on the basis of that evidence - so that we can avoid causing harm in the future. Such an analysis was carried out by the Advisory Commission of Human Radiation Experiments (ACHRE), and for that reason ACHRE stands apart from all subsequent ethics advisory committees whose recommendations were unsupported by evidence.
Absence of boundaries to limit the level of risk and pain to which a child may legitimately be exposed.
Pervasive conflict of interests of all involved - including, and especially, institutional review boards that have been shown to rubber stamp approval of harm producing trials.
Absence of an independent child subject's advocate to monitor his/her well-being.
Lack of accountability or enforcement of federal safeguards.
Lack of penalties for those who violate ethical standards.

I'm a 30 year old woman and I've been taking Yasmin for 4 months now. I've been reading what people have been posting here and I'm wondering if I'm alone in having the following symptoms:
-severe breast pain for one day in the middle of my cycle, followed by mild breast pain until I get my period,
-painful cramps in the middle of my cycle,
-weird sharp internal vaginal pain, (sorry for the graphics, but especially during climax),
-acne problems,
-depression
The last two, I did see that people wrote about on here. I called my doctor today and I'm requesting a new pill. I thought that after a couple of months the symptoms would equalize, but after this last month, I decided I couldn't live with it. The breast pain especially has been very painful.

Just wanted to empathize with you regarding "asthma" and "advair". I developed adult on-set asthma @ 26 years old. I am turning 30 in a month and have finally experienced my asthma going into remission. I was on advair on and off for 3 years...and am finally free of it. I searched long and hard for answers in the last four years as I journeyed through massage school, colon therapy school and presently Acupuncture school. I adjusted my diet, stress levels, and thoughts. For me, it ultimately came down to affirmations to nullify the belief of asthma and EFT (emotional freedom technique). These alternative methods allowed me to re-align my mind with my lungs...and break up with asthma. Don't allow the conventional medical practice of prescribing medicine to destroy your immune system and subsequently your life. Seek out a holistic practitioner who practices energetic medicine such as an Acupuncturist, Naturopathic Doctor or Chiropractor. Advair is a crutch with sickening side effects! You can heal yourself...begin by taking a deep breath and telling yourself you no longer have asthma. After a few months of re-programming your thoughts....you will be breathing with ease. Would love to write more....but need to turn in! Good luck with your journey and let me know if I can be of any more support :-)

Hello folks - thought I would post here as well.........I am on 20MG of LISINOPRIL 1 time daily. I notice during regimented times of the day I get the side effects. I take it when I wake up in the morning. I have been on this for about a year now...........it has lowered by HBP from 150's/80's to about 130/80..............regular........I am a 37 year old Male

Problem is the multiple side affects:

1. Tiredness - comes and goes all throughout the day - almost like I could just close my eyes and go to sleep anywhere.........feels like someone threw sand in my eyes.......
2. Shortness of breath
3. Sore Muscles - everywhere - it doesn't discriminate!!!!
4. Pain in the chest mostly the left side but sometimes the right
5. Headache in one spot in the head - doesn't last long
6. Wake up often in the middle of the night with dead hands or legs
7. Sometimes I just have a total memory blank on things I should know right away - usually only occurs when I'm getting tired.
8 Of course the panic from thinking something is wrong with me!!!

Anyone else with these set of symptoms????

Drop me a note!!!!

On October 5th 2007 I experienced auditory hallucinations but their different than the others. I hear my thoughts directly outside of my head and they repeat the thought continuously until another thought happens. Sometimes their are thoughts that I have previously thought of and they won't go away. It starts from the moment I wake up in the morning until I go to sleep in the evening. Sometimes they sing like a choir and sometimes they talk my thoughts. Children's, women, men, and one old man. Sometimes it's a mechanical voice. I started taking Lamicatal in August. I started with 25 mg. for two weeks. Then I increased it to 50mg for two weeks. Then I increased it to 75 mg for two weeks. Then I increased it to 100mg for two weeks. Then I increased it to 125mg and I took this for one week and that's when these auditory hallucinations got worse. Now I only take 50mg and the auditory hallucinations will not go away yet. Before I started taking Lamictal I was on Cymbalta 20mg. I needed to stop taking this medication as that it caused abdominal pains, severe headaches, nausea, I started hearing other peoples thoughts and conversations. I was only Cymbalta for one year. I never was able to hear peoples thoughts before taking Cymbalta and I never heard hallucinations before taking Lamictal. Years ago I was taking Paxil 20mg and this medication increased the abstract visual dreaming and the zoning out. The reason I started taking Lamicatal was that in the evening while I was sleeping I would sometimes get startled in the middle of the night with abstract visual dreaming and it hurt my head. Also I was zoning out occasionally during the day. Kind of like daydreaming but no visual dreams. Lamicatal did stop this but this side effect is driving me insane.

hi charity,
murph70 is quite right when she says that out bodies change after we have children. i was on dianette on and off for about 10 years and never had a problem with it, then i had my daughter (my youngest...now 3 ) i breast fead her for a year exclusively so did not have a period for the whole year, when my periods came back they were quite heavy and i also had outbreaks of acne when my period was due. my doctor put me on the new wonder pill yasmin! well he was right about it being a wonder pill,i started taking it and "wondered" what the hell had happened to me,within 6 months i was an agoraphobic nervous suicidal wreck,i had no sex drive at all and actually thought about telling my husband to go out and find another woman because i never wanted to have sex again! i felt constantly tired,i had tingles, aches, pains, blurred vision, constant thirst, raging headaches...the list goes on. my doctor diagnosed me with an anxiety disorder and gave me diazepam (which made me worse) when i asked if it could be my bcp he said no he didn't think so...but i know so because i found this site, found hundreds of wonderful women all with the same problems all taking this same pill, i stopped taking it 7 months ago now and while i am not back to my old self quite yet i am well on the way. Most of my symptoms have gone now so i think that is proof in itself. As murph70 says only you know how you feel, maybe you could try alternative methods of birth control for a while and see if you feel better? whatever you decide to do i wish you all the best.

My thyroid was destroyed in Sept. 1987 by radioactive iodine. What I know now, I wish that I knew back then. I have been hyper most of my life up until this date. Was always able to go into any store buy clothes without trying them own, knowing that they would fit perfectly; lots of energy, raised two boys by myself and even worked on a college degree. Was very active. Had to go in for surgery for my gallbladder; 24 hours later, they didn't know if I was going to live. Put me on the gieger counters to test my thyroid, was so hyper that I broke every piece of equipment in the hospital. After my thyroid was destroyed, I packed on 60 pounds and have not been able to lose it to this day. Am extrememly tired. My whole system is so messed up that I am looking to alternative methods to see if I might get some help there. Told my doctor about my problems with weight, tireness, and bowel problems (which the medication has effected), he looks at me as if I am nuts and don't know what I am talking about.

Now that I am menopausal, the sympthoms have been amplified. I know of several people that have had problems with gaining weight and others that never had any problems with the medication. GO FIG!!!!

My son has been on Singulair and Flovent for the last 8 months straight and on and off of both since he was 1 1/2. As soon as we take him off the medications, his asthma kicks in and starts with his typical asthma cough that takes weeks to go away. My concern is and has been over him taking this medications for such a long period of time. The medicine definitely helps him, but I don't want him on these medicines and am desperately wanting to find alternative methods, but am also skeptical as to whether or not alternative methods work and don't know who to turn to.

I started my son on a children's fish oil supplement and a children's probiotic, as well as a very good multi-vitamin and vitamin c supplement - however those are not enough to control his asthma.

I would love to hear from others who are in the same situation and who have had positive experiences with alternate methods.

I went to the doctors today to get tested for moderate allergies, and he perscribed singulair and a inhaler. While I am keeping the inhaler for emergency purposes, after having had only one dose of Singulair I am getting rid of the sample pack he gave me. I have gotten drowsy, like many others on this site, but the worst side effect is a extreme discomfort in my throat and chest that feels similar to the burning sensation when you deeply inhale very cold air.

I would not suggest anyone go on this drug. Seek alternative methods. I generally distrust inhibitors, and this drug is a big one.

I have decided to try alternative methods
If anyone has any suggestions as to alternative med that works for asthma and copd.
I would like to see it posted
Thanks

I am right there with you on the bedsoaking night sweats and hot flashes, I am 24 years old and have only been on Yasmin for 3-4 months. I've had problems with other bc's but nothing like this. I actually didn't start getting any of the severe symptoms until I was in the 3rd month, but have had major anxiety and stress syptoms since I've been on any bc method. I probably wont go back on Yasmin but I do need something because I don't want to get pregnant or use alternative methods. What is everyone else using instead???

I have been taking Lipitor for only about a month, but already I have had side effects from this drug. What led me to this site was a search for Lipitor side effects, while I was searching for what may have caused the development of a couple of blue/purple/yellowish "bruises" on one of my breasts. I have also been having leg cramps during the day. I never put these symptoms together or ever thought of them as being side effects from the Lipitor until reading all this and it has dawned on me that nothing like this has ever happened to me until the past month when I started taking Lipitor for high cholesterol. I am also diabetic. I know that my mother takes Lipitor and her skin bruises easily, which made me wonder if it was the Lipitor causing my breast to bruise, but it hasn't been hit or anything like that.. just showed up as two little bruises, except one of them is getting darker instead of fading away. I'm supposed to go back to the doctor the end of the month. My husband doesn't want me to take any more of the Lipitor. I think I will search for alternative methods in dealing with my high cholesterol!

Thank you to everyone who has been so sincere and honest in sharing their experiences while using Yasmin. I am the proud mama of three beautiful children and I began using Yasmin on the advice of our obstetrician last month. We had been relying on a diaphragm, but recently I was more nervous about the timing of an additional pregnancy. I told our doctor that I felt the birth control pill had been negative for me in the past and suspected it was linked to a depressive episode nine years ago. He was very dismissive of this and told me that "the pill" has changed considerably. I was shocked at how quickly I felt side effects. I have been exhausted and have started experiencing severe heart burn (I even thought I was having a heart attack) almost everytime I eat. I was also still nursing my 17 month old son and my milk supply has completely gone away. For nursing moms...please be aware of this potential problem. My doctor did not inform me of this before I started Yasmin and I feel a bit regretful that my nursing relationship with my son ended on those terms. QUESTION...for those who have stopped taking Yasmin...what alternative methods of birth control are you exploring? My husband and I are not 100% that we are finished having children, but definitely want some control over that decision! My doctor is also advocating the Mirena IUD, but I am fearful that it will have the same effect.

I was diagnosed with high chol. in 1987. 360 now 260. I have taken Zocor for some 16 years now. Within 1 month the leg pains and cramps began. The Dr. told me I wasn't getting deep REM sleep and put me on Ambien. Still leg pain & cramps. I accepted the pain as a trade off for lower chol. My chol. is hereditary, not diet related. I can't recall my last egg, butter, milk, etc. I now see the long term effects of Zocor, 2 years ago I went to 40 mg. I suffer from depression, more medication, can't work, do simple chores, play golf, even walk around the block. I am now taking Oxycodone for pain. Severe, all joints, leg muscles, neck, knees, elbows, you name it. The Dr. finally said it must be heredity and put me on Crestor. Too little too late! My girlfriend is disgusted because I am half what I used to be since all the other meds to offset the Zocor effects. I have lost friends and career. I am tagged a hypochondriac. I have sought help from specialists and alternative measures to relieve the pain. No-one, I mean no specilalist even suggested the damaging results of the Zocor until I stumbled onto the "net." I can't walk, much less get out of bed in a reasonable amount of time. I am severely limited in my ability to do anything. I am glad I know what has caused this situation but fear my diminished quality of life and ready to give up. I am not crazy as has been suggested and can now give my detractors a name for my condition. I am relegated to SSD instead of working. DON'T TAKE A STATIN BASED DRUG. Seek alternative methods. They are liars and have cheated me out of my life!

June 21st will be my last dose of yasmine... after reading through these side effects - I have confirmed that I am not going crazy or just experienceing unrelated symptoms. I have gained about 15 lbs since I started this BCP (in JAN) - and I have not changed my eating habits that much, drink tons of H2O and started working out- yet am not losing any weight... also, my breasts/hips have gotten huge... I have also tried estrostep, ortho-cyclen, ortho-tricyclen and levlite (allesse)- none have had positive effects and all have made me depressed, and also given me sore/large breasts and just made me feel ughhh overall! I have been sad , depressed, anxious, irrational, quick tempered etc. Normally, I used to be a happy, positive, optimistic person, now I am just miserable. I think back now and I realize that my blurry vision, high heart rate, numb arms and feet are prob realte dto yasmine also.

I must comment that Yasmine works by causing your partner to avoid you as it turns you into a *itch! Lucky for me, my boyfriend (thus far) has been understanding and supportive and is pushing for an end to this madness too!

The only good result I have experienced is no more acne. But I would rather have acne tahn be miserable.

SO, I have decided that after a year and 3 months of trying BCPS - I am quitting... and let me tell you, I am looking fwd to June 21st and my last pill of the pack!

Has anyone on this list researched natural methods or alternative methods of BC. I would appreciate any info!

29 Male 250Lbs..
I have had most side effects talked about here.. Worst was when DR. bumped me to 40mg because my levels wern't coming down fast enough for him.. Had a major side effects. This was last summer. swollen ankles , could barely walk. muscle soreness in legs, arms, shoulders and chest. Weight gain.
Felt like I was always in a cloud.
I was on holiday's when most of it hit, and my son had just turned 1. after a 3 weeks on DR visits he dropped me back to 20 mg.. my levels where perfect.. but what a cost.. my levels have good ever since.. but I have changed DR's..
Muscle soreness comes and goes now.. headaches are very frequent.. Gas is a big problem. more for the people around me.
I am to the point now I am going to try alternative methods.
I have a yearly physical with blood work in 4 months.. it should show by then if I stop now. I'm just sick of feeling like this.. and I think without Zocor and some hard work I can get down to my ideal body weight..
